Re: Cross posting to other lists
Having played around a bit, this is my take on things.
The perception that groups.io is 'passing through' e-mails sent to a group via it is I think something of an over simplification. It seems to me that when groups.io receives such an e-mail, or has 'message to group' posted through the web interface, after moderation, etc., it adds it the group message archive and, for each member, depending on their settings (including whether they want their own messages) either sends them a 'new' (from groups.io) e-mail (with a new msg id, what was in the original e-mail, with extra/changed footer); adds the message to their digest or summary; or just lets them read it in the archive. If an e-mail has multiple addressees, then a recipient of the groups.io-sent e-mail version will see the group (only) in the 'To:' field, and any CCs as such: if the Group was itself a cc, then it will appear in both the To (without any of the addresses in the original To: list) and CC fields. In other words an e-mail sent To: Group1 and A, CC: Group2 and B will arrive from Group2 as To: Group2, CC Group2 and B. That from Group1 will not mention A; only A and B will see all four addressees.? A 'reply' in e-mail will default to whatever the group 'reply-to' (I think there may be some logic to remove specific 'sender' if they will get it as part of group) setting is (this can be changed), and 'reply-all' will also include the CC list. When using groups.io reply facility the only options are (I think) 'group' and 'sender'.? I would agree there is a case for adding Show and Reply To 'All Recipients' options. HTH, Jeremy? |

How to make payments from a small non-profit
#Discussion
Currently I pay with a personal credit card for our small non-profits page. ?(We are a quilt group with 112 members.). I¡¯d like to switch this to our treasurer but the group does not have a credit card. ?Can we do an ach payment from our checking account? Can we use a debit card tied to that checking account??

Good job, Randy,
Now, for the "oldest to newest & vice versa,k; Please, on the computer screen, when in Messages mode, look at the upper right portion. You will see a Date followed by a "down" or "up" caret. Clicking the caret reverses the order of the messages in the display. When you get old, (you're only 78 & I'm almost 87) you may lose your fear of moving your mouse around and, when you get an indication that there is something live under your mouse, you will, in spite of fear, click the mouse to see what happens.? What you can find with this little trick is amazing. BTW I doubt if Mark would give you a "take me to the middle" action, though. Bob Bellizzi -- Bob Bellizzi The Corneal Dystrophy Foundation |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOk, folks, you wanted a recent transfer experience, so here is a log (hopefully no significant errors): ? 1.?????? Automatically became a member of another Group via transfer from Yahoo., 2.?????? Looked the group over, checked functions, etc. and decided it was the thing to do for my small private group. a.?????? No comparison as far as support is concerned. b.?????? Much more user friendly for my ¡°technically less ¡®confident¡¯¡± (thanks Chris) group members (about 80% of the 17 members). c.?????? Provides all of the same capabilities, as far as my needs are concerned. 3.?????? Googled ¡°Transfer Yahoo Group to Groups.io¡± and found the instructions. a.?????? By the way, for those of us who need ¡°Groups.io for Dummies¡±, and rarely scroll all the way to the bottom of a page, a brief topic under help on Yahoo and Google Group Transfer that merely states ¡°Look at the bottom of any page, dummy.¡± Or words more complementary might be a service. 4.?????? Created a new group on about 8/1. (Another suggestion. Add a go to first and go to last button on the activity scroll [change < 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 > to << < 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 > >>].) 5.?????? Bumbled around looking for the transfer instructions again. 6.?????? Went to the Yahoo group and invited [email protected], on about 8/3. 7.?????? Apparently went into advanced age dementia. (Hey, I can do that, I¡¯m 78.) a.?????? Checked Groups.io group and couldn¡¯t find the invite, so decided I must have been dreaming. b.?????? Attempted to send invite from Groups.io and received ¡°invalid email address.¡± c.?????? Received many very diplomatic responses in this topic, indicating I had attained the afore mentioned mental state. (Thank you Bruce, for relating your experience, indicating I may not be quite as demented as I thought.) 8.?????? Yesterday (4/8) afternoon, around 2:00PM, I recovered sanity, went to the Yahoo group and made [email protected] a moderator. 9.?????? Bumbled around finding the transfer instructions again, and clicked the appropriate links to start the transfer. 10.?? Today (4/9), received email at 12:30 PM, received notice that the group and been transferred. a.?????? Also received notice to a second email address that I had registered in the Yahoo group (the one that didn¡¯t create the groups.io group), as expected. 11.?? Went to the group and verified, on cursory examination, that all items (except email attachments) have been transferred. a.?????? Also, too late to the show, discovered the Transfer Group link at the bottom of the page. 12.?? Removed [email protected] from the Yahoo Group and made it dormant (no member posts). 13.?? Now to coax all my little ducklings into the new nest. ? Bottom line ¨C It appears that the process works just like the current instructions. ? I believe it¡¯s appropriate to take my two suggestions to the beta group. So, unless cautioned otherwise, that¡¯s what I¡¯ll do. ? Re: Edited Group Profile Does Not Show in ACTIVITY
Thanks, Chris.
I have asked members to edit their Group Profiles: add a photo, include a bio, add where they live. This is what will show when you click on a member's name - their profile. Every activity is recorded in the log as it occurs.? I edited my profile to see if it came up as an Activity, and it does not. Hoping that there is a solution... Ro |

Re: Can we change from "Basic" Plan to Premium Plan for a few months and then go back to basic?
Yes, you can change plans at any time.? Admin -> Upgrade -> click on View/Change Plan.
I did the same, signed up for premium monthly, imported my members (it's a static group) via Direct Add, then downgraded to free plan a month later. The spam so called "feedback loop" is unrelated to the type of plan the group is on.? see?https://blog.returnpath.com/what-is-a-feedback-loop/ Toby |
Edited Group Profile Does Not Show in ACTIVITY
Almost everything a group member does shows up in the very useful log of Activities. I really need to see who had edited their group profile.? It is too tedious to search through 760 names in the Directory to get this information.
Can that be added to the Activity listing, or is there another way for me to see who has edited their group profile on a daily basis? Thanks, Ro |

In fact, I did a check with an online email address checker and it confirmed that it thought there was an issue with the email address. The other thing that led me to believe it was the email address having a problem was when I checked the "Easy Group Transfer" link which is at the bottom of every groups.io page and it led to what appeared to be clear directions on which steps to take and the second step was: /yahootransfer ============================================= Step 2Send an invite to your Yahoo Group to? I've followed that step several times myself for group transfers and it being Yahoo, I know the process is to type an email address in an invite box, click on the 'do it' button and hold your breath to see what, if anything happens. So, it seemed to me that this was likely where the problem was. Be that as it may, it now seems that those steps may NOT be what is required. There is more text at the bottom of the Yahoo Easy Group Transfer page which seem to discuss a different process. If the group Wiki is being updated, that is fine, but it seems that the public link pages are what need to be updated. -- Gerald |
Can we change from "Basic" Plan to Premium Plan for a few months and then go back to basic?
We? are just in the beginnings of setting up our group.? Might total 30-40members when done.
?The easiest way to do this, I just discovered, is simply entering/registering people myself rather than instruct them on how to join.? We have many older, unsophisticated people. ? ? Once our small group is set up - would then like to go back to free basic plan. ? ? ?Another question - would this upgrade stop members from automatically be removed when their system thinks they are getting spammed?? |
