Re: Options when member "hijacts" a thread

On that page you can fix the subject line and hashtags.? From this screen you can also moderate or lock the topic so the off-topic "red" discussion does not proliferate too much. Bruce |
Options when member "hijacts" a thread
Let's say there's a thread of 5 posts discussing the color blue, involving #hashtag blue
A member then replies to the thread to talk about red. As a moderator, besides sending the member a [nasty] message saying in the future he needs to start a new thread with a #hashtag red rather than "hijacking" an existing thread involving another subject, do I have any other options besides deleting the guy's post? ? |
Re: Log In issues for Existing Subscribers
Chip Louie
So how does one set the default landing screen to be "Home" page for that subgroup? New members are getting confused for some reason and do not see what group they are in at the moment. Making the Home page the default would be a huge help especially because there is no way to move threads between groups AFAIK.

Re: How to obtain a members email address
If you're the group owner, you can certainly make the member directory (including their email addresses) visible (but not editable) to subscribers.
Go to Admin->Settings->Privacy->Members Visible and change the pull-down to "subscribers." Be sure to save your changes. It's been my experience that many folks will be very upset if you do this...but if you have previously built a consensus within your group that it's okay then this setting does work. Bruce |
Re: How to obtain a members email address
If you're willing to allow all members to see each others email addresses, go to Admin > Settings, scroll down to Privacy, and change the Members Visible to Subscribers.? They'll then be able to see the same list an Admin can.

Re: Getting Logged-Out of Groups.io unexpectedly . . .
Thanx Shal & others . . .
That answers my question: It's an automatic, cookie-based, periodic log-out. And to a couple of the other respondents: No, I didn't get any email notification. Nor did I did use a different device to access Group.io. So Shal's response presents the most apt explanation based upon my log-out experience. Much appreciated, All! Paul M. Re: What is "normal.dotm"?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSharon, ? You asked: What is ¡°normal.dotm¡±? ? I don?t know if it has the same name in English speaking countries. And I hope I can translate and express this thing properly for I am not a technical expert, but I?ll try. ? Normal.dotm is my basic document template which connects to all my word documents. M stands for "macro". Usually I formate this basic template normal.dot once, as far as line pitch, page distance, font and font size and colours are concerned. And every time I open an empty word page and start to write in it, my text will appear exactly as I have formatted my normal.dotm. This still doesn?t mean though, that if you receive a document from me, it will show on your screen exactly as it does on mine. The way you see it depend on your normal.dot and how you formatted it. I hope I could get this across understandably¡ ? Victoria ? |
A way to force/change images to attachments?
Group Moderator
On our group, pictures/flyers need to be sent as attachments. Often people forget, and/or send a forwarded email from their phone, and the attachment becomes an image in the message. Although we remind people all the time, and send back their posts to be redone, it's tedious.? Is there a way to either have an auto-reject for messages with an embedded image so we don't have to do it, or a way to change that image to an attachment when it comes through? Any of those email settings? And what exactly does "normalize HTML" mean? Thanks, Mindy |
Number of hashtags or members showing per page

Southenders Admin
I know that I set my personal preference to show all 36 of my hashtags on one page, but I forgot how I made that happen. I am also wondering if I can increase the number of members showing on one page to 150.?
And is there a way to set a group policy for either of those? Thanks -- Norm |
Using Groups.io Databases - Step by Step
My group, Nordhavn Owners Group (NOG), transferred over from Yahoo last February.? We have some members who are not always tech-savvy, so I prepared a three-page tutorial on how to create and update Groups.io database records.? It's specifically aimed at NOG, but I'm attaching it here (in .docx format) for anyone who might find it useful.? It's been shaken down on NOG and found to be reliable.? The only exceptions so far are members using the Safari browser are finding that they cannot update database?records, though they can create database records--an issue I've reported to Groups.io as a possible/probable bug.
