Re: Automatic Deletion of Members If Message Marked As Spam
#poll
Mark has now provided me with a copy of the updated "message to deleted members" that has been used from 22 March 2018, and I have added it to the draft wiki.
Having read and thought about it, I am still not sure that it is clear enough about one point. I think Marked picked up a point made by Shal in his post? , and removed a sentence that was in my original suggestion, that sentence being Please note that this "marking as spam" may have been done by your Email Service Provider and not by you.? Given that I and others have expressed reservations about many members' degree of "IT Awareness" I tend to think that without that sentence the message may well not drive home the fact that what happened was down to the MSP rather than the individual member.? I would appreciate other members' views on this before submitting a further suggestion. ?? I may also add to the "Remediation" section to reinforce the fact that some degree of advance mitigation of this overall problem is down to individual members themselves, and that it cannot be done by Owners and Moderator. To save hunting for the link to the draft wiki it is here: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Removed-for-spam Regards, Chris |

Re: Automatic Deletion of Members If Message Marked As Spam

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI am behind Mike with this.
I approve of the concept that a member should NOT be dropped because of a spam claim.
Having membership Deleted for a spam claim is counter to the interests of Groups.io, to the
Group Owner and Member. And rising tension will not serve the Email Service Provider well,
ESP. lose-lose
If a FeedBackLoop, FBL message comes in could this be challenged and managed by
Groups.io at a higher level?
Challenged on the basis that a legitimate group member received a legitimate group mail then
the source of the FBL must actually be at fault.
To be managed by the ESP to the satisfaction of Groups.io, Group Owner and Group Member.?
The FBL is generated and sent by the member's? ESP. Email Service Provider, who must take
responsibility for their actions. Possibily by making provision for a White List.
Maybe Groups.io can broker a white list entry for each member.?
Maybe a contract between Groups.io and the ESP which shoves responsibility onto the FBL
generator and what they are going to do about it..
OK,
Tony??

I was just in a post a "new" item about the subject. Then saw this existing thread.
Compared to everyone else here, I would be near the bottom of the pole-technologically speaking. Our group which is now has 10 or 15 members while we are in what I call "beta mode" - is totally unsophisticated. 1. A member should NOT be dropped just because his server claimed an incoming message was spam. It is hard enough getting them to go thru the sign up process the first time. 2. If possible, when an outgoing message is rejected by the member's email, send him a private message, automatically, to explain to him what is going on. Maybe the message could be sent under my, the moderators email so it goes thru. In any case, the member should NOT be dropped. ??

Thanks.
I am giving a talk in front of 80 group members Thursday morning. I don't need to start something new right now. Most want less emails from my group. Whenever someone replies to a calendar event, all members get the reply. Events did that in Yahoo too, but they seem to want to bury me for this. I've had to write a PDF on how to mute a topic. May not make it back here. --

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýPut them on moderation. ? Don ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Bruce Bowman ? I have one member who refuses to provide a subject line to his messages, and instead inserts a hashtag which may [or may not] be relevant to his post. The topic then proliferates with a bunch of related posts that are nonetheless completely unsearchable with the search engine. |

Re: Messages without subject line
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAdd the requirement for a relevant subject line to the group guidelines. Make this a ¡°must¡±. Publicize this to the group. Give the person two warnings, then remove them from the group.Group membership is a privilege, not a right. It comes with some responsibilities to the other members of the group.

Re: How long before transfer of Yahoo Group?
It shouldn't be be taking that long. We would need more information to help. Where are you in the process? Have you invited the transfer agent to your Yahoo group and made it a moderator?

Re: How long before transfer of Yahoo Group?
Hi, Ken, I just joined this group and am reading everything with interest. Our Yahoo group moved last month to IOgroups and I think it only took a few hours to go live. I set up the group again and then sent a link to my Yahoo group and everyone clicked on it and we got moving Did you save your information? As in scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and make sure that you've saved things.? Hope that helps and good luck! Ken L, I had requested a transfer of my Yahoo Group about 2 weeks ago and have not heard anything yet. Can anyone say about how long it will take to transfer a group over? ? The status page may give us some clue where you are in the process, but at two weeks I'd say something got lost in the cracks and you'll need to either start again or contact [email protected] ? -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

No, that's the way I do it as well. Remember to BCC yourself as well when you do. If you're the owner of the group, you would have access to the member list / email addresses. --? New database

Southenders Admin
Excuse me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there an easy way to create a database from an existing file that is no longer available? I thought I had created a members database by just copy and pasting my old Yahoo group's member list. Now it seems I have to create the database columns with labels before I create the list.
Also, I have a photo album with photos of each of our members. Is there a way to link a field in the database to that individual's photo? -- Norm |

How to obtain a members email address
Apologies if this has been asked before but with over 500 emails to search for this information ....
A member (A) of my group would like to email another member (B) privately. In YahooGroups this was quite easy in that you clicked on the Members link in the banner and it was possible to search for the member and send a message albeit the email address was truncated, but Yahoo knew where to send it. I have found a way to do this in Groups.io but it seems to involve more button clicks that with YahooGroups? .(Search Messages to bring up an email from B, click on the subject of the email from B, click Reply, scroll down the screen to bottom right and click on Private. Is this the best way to do this? Also ... is there a way to search the Directory in a sensible manner rather then guessing on which of the many pages the subject might be found? Thanks Margaret P |
