Re: Truncated Email Addresses #issue

I just tested this and I think there's a small bug. Mark evidently forgot to
unmask email addresses in the message previews. They ARE unmasked in the
actual message archive.
The strange thing is:
if I read posts via mail, links are correctly displayed.
If I read posts online they are truncated (not just in preview, I mean the actual message).

I don't think that's correct. They are still bona fide group members and can access all content and send messages. The only difference is that groups.io has stopped sending emails to them.

So, they wouldn't even be able to read group posts online.

As I said earlier, for those that went bouncing immediately after being
copied in from a Yahoo Group that's probably fine.
But for those that went bouncing more recently it is possible that Yahoo
Mail will cure its glitches and those members you could send them an ad-hoc
bounce probe to see if they are able to unbounce themselves.
I'm not sure at what time they went bouncing. I sent a bulk bounce probe some days ago, but they are all still there with a red B. Actually, three new members joined the bouncing group.

Good idea. The same could be done using Direct Add, if they choose to go that route.

How long does it take to transfer

How long does it take to transfer from a yahoogroup into groups.io? Less than 50 members. Probably 1000 messages. No files at this time. Thanks so much. Tammi

SPF, Groups.io and Office365 Exchange Online #split

We're seeing a lot more flagging by Office 365 Exchange online of SPF issues for emails that have traversed groups.io with users seeing messages such as this experienced in Outlook Online:
This sender failed our fraud detection checks and may not be who they appear to be.

Microsoft did recently overhaul their anti spoofing tech this month? ??

Is it worth those of us who have control over our domains, have SPF set up for our mail hosts, and who send a fair amount of mail via groups.io adding an SPF include record for groups.io ? Will this actually make much difference?
Just worrying that at some point emails will start being bounced, junked or blocked.?

Posting here as searching the Help Center for SPF returns zero results, and newest comments on SPF in here seem to be quite a while ago.?

Re: Yahoo transfer/Invitations/Subscribe by email conflicts? #howtoguide #membership

Final Update: My group transfer was completed in about 2 days including transfer of the members and past emails.
Excellent and painless, I wish I'd done it sooner.
Heartfelt thanks to Shal for his advice and for the work of the team at Groups.io!

Did by chance the third person reply privately instead of to the group?

P.S. This is why I have private messaging (and message editing) disabled. It seems to only lead to confusion.

Disappearing highlighting

Ok, this is odd.

A member creates a new post on our groups.io site.? He copies and pastes into his post, text that includes highlighting--green and yellow.

1. The post on our groups.io site shows NO HIGHLIGHTING.

2. But the email that members receive from the groups.io site CONTAINS THE GREEN AND YELLOW HIGHLIGHTING.

Explanation?? Something I need to do in the settings????

It seems the two moderators (of which I am one) do not have the privileges that Shal and others say we will need to transfer the group. We are still trying to get access?for the group owner but just to be clear - from what you have said, if we can't do that we simply can't transfer the group. I'm presuming our only option would then be to start a new IO group and ask people to requestion to join. Am I correct?

Yes. But here¡¯s an idea. You could make your group a ¡®premium group¡¯ for one month for $10, which would enable you to ¡®direct add¡¯ all the members (I.e., email addresses) you want to, without having to issue invitations and wait for acceptance. If you ask nicely, Mark may not even charge you the one-time fee, due to the unfortunate and unique circumstances. ??

Re: problems with cox.net accounts?

Not delivered; equivalent to disappearing into thin air. Not in the spam folder, or others. Cox.net addresses not bouncing as far as the groups.io website is concerned.
I'm fairly certain it's a Cox problem, but dealing with them is like shouting into an anechoic chamber.

I think in the circumstances it is reasonable to conclude that on the balance of probabilities that the member concerned didn't mark the message as spam. Groups.io only sends emails to individuals who have voluntarily joined one or more Groups hosted by it; it thus seems highly unlikely that anyone receiving a Groups.io email would mark a message as spam, and that such a marking was therefore most likely done by the ESP.

However Bruce Bowman's post revealed a flaw in the idea of spam reports triggering a default to web - only access rather than a deletion of membership, and on the face of it that flaw could be a show - stopper as far as this suggestion is concerned.

Ah well... it was a good idea while it lasted, which wasn't very long.

No, it is not.

But that may be a good point. Perhaps the Subject text should be deliberately different to avoid confusion.

Thanks?Shal - I bet that would be helpful. Maybe if they also added the ability for owners to add words to this spam unsub notice, then we could explain it in our own group voice and it would be less likely to be missed or distrusted by our members. Same principle as the invite message. Just thinking out loud. - jeff

Re: Can someone explain to me... unsubscribed for marking a message as spam

Chris,

While working on it I found myself wondering if a better response to a
spam notification from an ESP might be to switch the member over to
"web access only / no emails" rather than rather brutally cancelling
their membership.
I thought that had been mentioned in beta, but a quick search doesn't turn it up. So perhaps you could.

I think the idea, at least initially, is that these reports are (supposed to be) instances of the member marking a message as spam. And in that case removal is appropriate and useful. Unfortunately Mark isn't told how the marking came about.

Although a good idea on the face of it, some groups (like mine) have the "no email" option disabled, so it won't help us.

Bruce

P.S. Thanks for writing a first draft. I think we all could spend more of our time on something like that, rather than answering the same questions over and over again.

Re: Can someone explain to me... unsubscribed for marking a message as spam

jeff,

I see under Admin->Settings->Member Notices that you can add text to a
notice called "Removed member". The default subject line seems to be
the same as the message in question.

Is this in fact the same notice?
No, it is not.

But that may be a good point. Perhaps the Subject text should be deliberately different to avoid confusion.
