Re: Moving topics to sub-groups #subgroups

Thanks for the update Duane. I tried split and merge but as you'll be aware it only works within a Group not across Main and Sub-Groups.

Best Regards
Glen

Re: Invitations to join

The Promote page also has code that can be added to a web site, including a preview of what it will look like.

Re: Continuity of IO

Thanks for the links, Duane. With respect to the second one, I read where on group owner said he had gotten a 404 error and was wondering why because it seemed his other internet accesses were working. When I read this my first thought was that the server groups.io is on was shut down for some reason. Could that be it?

I also noted in reading the responses that Mark suggested sending questions to support(at)groups.io. Is this still a viable option? Instead of having re-raised the issue here of continuity, it appears I could have sent my concerns to support. Correct?

I think what the person was talking about, was a way to promote their URL the old fashion way. There used to be actual sites a person could go to, where they would fill out a form with their sites URL, name of the site, and short description. It took maybe a few days to a week for the new site to be recognized by some kind of bot (I don¡¯t remember how that actually worked), and then the site could be found when doing a search on the internet. The Promote in Group.io does not work like the old way, as it only lets the site be promoted on FB and Tweeter.

Re: Start to Finish Message Transfer

In our case, the archived messages (~150,000) were transferred about 3 days after everything else transferred. I happened to notice it while it was happening, and it threw me for a bit of a loop. (See this thread?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/5450). And it was fascinating to watch the home page of the group as they were transferring as the numbers kept changing over the several hours it took to transfer all the messages.

This answer won't speed things up or answer your members' questions, but it should soothe your nerves a bit to know you aren't the only one! And like another post in this thread indicates, we got a nicely detailed email from the transfer agent a VERY soon after the last message transferred explaining exactly what did and did not transfer during the process and why.

Thank you so much for reading my post an helping with my question.? This has been the best experience ever.? I have switched most of my groups over to IO and my members are so far loving it.

I get it also. I understand most of the member's thoughts now. Not what I had expected, though. As far as why it should be a topic here? I think it is very appropriate here and it has reached a certain limit to only those who's mind has been made up long ago. To some of us new to IO it is still a topic of concern.
Some of my groups changed, some didn't.
It doesen't matter how often the subject is rephrased, unless you can guarantee that you will still be alive the day after tomorrow, you are flogging a dead horse.

Re: Moving topics to sub-groups #subgroups

I don't think this is currently possible, but is on the TODO list.? Over a year ago, Mark wrote (in beta), "Moving threads between subgroups is on the todo list and definitely something I want to happen sooner rather than later."

Re: List member permanently moderated status

J_Catlady

This is a big problem. I helped a group with several thousand members transfer over and they wound up with the same issue. I petitioned Mark to do some sort of bulk operation to switch them all over, but he was unable to do that. I had to go through and switch everybody one by one. I would suggest to him on beta that he improve the transfer process by allowing an option to "make moderated members NuM" for an NuM group. I may already have suggested this to him, but if I did, it was not on beta. I think someone needs to suggest this.

Hi Mike,

Can¡¯t you post your "subscribe to" email address on a website?
The email address appears on the homepage of your group.

Re: List member permanently moderated status

I suspect there may a difference in understanding.? Have you checked the actual settings of one of the accounts in question on the Y!G?? I was on a group where everyone was moderated until after the first post, but it was all handled manually by the owner, rather than use the available functions.? You could change everyone that is M to NuM using the Members page and the Action box, but you'd need to be sure that no one was supposed to be M for some reason.

List member permanently moderated status

All,

I have transferred five lists this year; the last was the most challenging.? On the old list, new members were moderated until they had one post approved, supposedly.? Instead YG had changed hundreds of list members to Override-moderated and as such they were profiled on groups.io? None were transferred as new members moderated until approval of one post.? At this point I can just leave them permanently moderated or I can change them to default group.? I would really like to be able to moderate them the same as new members, until one approved post.? I'm helping out and was not a list member prior to the transfer, but although the list owners said new members were automatically moderated until the first approved post, that information did not show on the YG list membership or the new membership on groups.io

Re: Start to Finish Message Transfer

>> I already have members who have found groups.io and are questioning...

I kept my new group on restriction (as much as possible*) and did not permit anyone to join until the transfer was completed. I realize that advice is too late for you but perhaps the next person who has a large group to transfer will benefit.

Deleting single photo from album

How does one delete a single photo from an album?

Anne

Bulk Download of files

Is there a facility to download multiple files within the FILES section?

What I am looking for is a similar capability to the Checkbox/ACTIONS support provided on the ADMIN > MEMBERS page. This allows actions to be taken against multiple Members.

I was hoping there would be a similar Checkbox against a list of FILES, to enable multiple files to be downloaded, (or deleted?) at a time. This would be _very_ handy for backup purposes.

Have I missed something? Or has such a requirement already been suggested? (I have searched but not come up with anything.) Seems odd that we can upload multiple files at a time, but only download one at a time

Thanks for any advice.

Brian.
