Re: re mail delays and non delivery

Any good mail filter will not necessary rely on the file extension as the sole basis for a trojan alert. Without going into details, it occasionally happens that the zip compression algorithm introduces a sequence of hex characters that looks like executable code. You might have more luck sending the file uncompressed.

Many people's email accounts end up spoofed and/or hijacked. So there is unlikely to be any way to whitelist yourself...otherwise the spammers would all do it.

Bottom line is that we all have to live with the occasional false alarm.

Using Activity log

This is actually a followup on my previous question about turning off email, but I think it might deserve a new topic.
Is there any documentation on the activity log floating around? When a member complained that she had unsubscribed from email several time, I tried to find log entries to reconstruct her activity. Searching on segments of email address, I didn't find much-- her messages from the beginning of time on Y!, but no activities. No record of joining, or subscription changes, but she came in on the transfer from Y! so probably would not expect an entry for subscribing . Would switching email delivery mode show up in the activity log? Or am I not looking in the right way?
Thanks, Marv

Thank you all.

Because the PM notice is so erratic in my experience, I¡¯m thinking of manually sending it out.

The Pending Member notice should be sent as soon as they try to join your group, though there have been reports of them being delayed, going to the spam folder, or getting lost.? The Email Confirmation email should be sent as soon as they enter an email address that the site doesn't recognize as a current user.

#Hashtags automatically set #hashtags

Topics of recurring group notices (positioned in the calender) suddenly show up on the frontpage beside "top hashtags". I didn?t set that. How can I avoid this happening?

"Just a comment regarding messages with hashtags."

Someday people will not know how to use the Hash sign as it was universally intended to be used, at least the way it was used in North America and other parts of the world.

Re: Moderators ability to change email addresses

Mark forgot to say that in the siteupdates message, but here's his original message about it:

"For premium groups, moderators can now edit member's email addresses. That works similarly to how it works when a user changes their own email address, that is, all the member's subscriptions are changed to the new email address. You cannot change to an email address that is already associated with another account. However, another improvement is that we're a little smarter about that. If the account you're trying to change to has no subscriptions or is only subscribed to updates@, we treat it like that account didn't exist."

If you don't mind the public seeing them, you could set the Group Guidelines and/or Wiki so that they're visible without being logged in.? If you do want folks to be logged in to see them, then you should suggest on beta that the login follow through to the Group Guidelines page like Wiki does.
Thanks, Duane. It's not critical, but I will suggest it on beta.

I like this, but have a couple of questions about it.

If I change someone's email address in my group, and that address isn't currently associated with a groups.io account, will it automatically create an account for them (like the transfer agent did)?

It also seems this could become a "back door" for the "direct add" feature previously found only in Premium.

re mail delays and non delivery

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I am getting a little frustrated... last night I sent an email to my own group and it was delayed 14 hours, yet another I sent a few minutes later came in almost immediately.
?
Another one sent at the same time was returned to me with this message..
The following message to <[email protected]> was undeliverable.
The reason for the problem:
5.3.0 - Other mail system problem 500-'This message contains an executable attachment, which is not permitted.'
It definitely DIDN¡¯T contain an exe file, it was a zipped file of a Photoshop brush which is an .abr file.
However I am assuming that this one was from my ISP because it came from here
"Mail Delivery System" MAILER-DAEMON@...
I expect this is something I will have to take up with them.
?
A short time ago, I sent 3 emails to my group, 2 were delivered immediately, 25 minutes later I am still waiting for the third.
I have noticed that the delayed ones have attachments.
?
Because I post several emails to my group every day, is there any way to ¡°whitelist¡± myself so there isn¡¯t any possibility of being seen as spam?
?
Thanks
Win

Maybe...? If her membership doesn't have the Invite Members box checked under Moderator Permissions, she won't see the Invite option.

It is probably prompting you to download the file to your computer. Depending on file type, and the browser and its settings the file might not open directly in the browser but require it to be downloaded to your computer first.
?
How can I get the file to remain on the Server, in other words copy it to the Server from which other members of the group can access?
