Re: Continuity of IO
[mod note: this message and its replies moved from "Problem with Norton" to "Continuity of IO"] or so and this was the first time this has happened since I created my group in October 2014.? Would you like a list of the frequent and severe problems I have had in Yahoo Groups including losing everything in my original group a year after it was formed, seeing the size of messages drastically reduced and losing 90% of the groups I had subscribed to in another Yahoo crisis. One can do what they want, but occurances like the Norton issue are part of the internet and in my world Yahoo Groups has become vastly inferior and a major source of very serious issues in many ways in contrast to Groups.IO. Stick with Yahoo Groups and you should get burned somehow sooner and later.? Also, I have not seen that anyone suffered harm to their Groups.IO lists during the short period this Norton event happened as opposed to losing lists and memberships on Yahoo Groups in my case.? Also the Groups.IO problem was caused by outside companies in this Groups.IO case, but Yahoo problems are almost always issues with its own operations and this now extends into the Verizon ownership era. How many employees does Yahoo have in comparison with the very small and very effective staff of Groups.IO which can be counted on one finger of one hand? that day was on his last day of vacation in Paris, France.? Do you know of any Yahoo stories like that one?? During my group owner life, Yahoo Groups has been down for up to days at a time quite a few times and each time there is a discussion as to whether or not the service has come to an end elsewhere. Groups is no longer listed on the main Yahoo page, it has now been demoted to listing under the MORE link. I do not think that the mass migration of Groups from Yahoo to Groups.IO has been caused due to Yahoo being a superior service that will last for many years to come.? Neither would Yahoo transfer for your group, all of your Groups.IO content to Yahoo if you wanted to make that change, but the one man band here in Groups.IO does that in about one week caused by huge demand for this help. |

Just a comment regarding messages with hashtags. When I transferred over my largest group I found a number of messages with hashtags. That group had never used hashtags. BUT there were several members who used the number sign in subject lines such as "Old #9", which groups.io interpreted as hashtags. Note that hashtags go at the end of a subject so the subject lines were also garbled. I searched for them and found probably a dozen messages with the problem. I was able to edit the subject line to change "#" to "no.", "number" or similar and the problem went away along with making those subject lines comprehensible again. I just toss this out as experience for others who may run into this. Dano ----- Original Message -----
Figured out the answer -- to all my questions. The group is still transferring 18 years of posts, which is allowing lots of photos, files, display settings, etc., to get linked to their proper members. The latest post in the activity log ias number 113554, and it's dated April, '14, so we've got a ways to go. We thought the transfer was complete 3 days ago and it's not. Dave |

Hi,
? I use Norton (Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.0) and have no problems. My email client is usually Thunderbird.? Thank you Shal for your response.? The screen print you show is what I had, I was uploading "Browse..."? it uploaded no problem.? However, when I clicked on the name of the document in your screen shot, it went back to where it came from and you should not have to save a document you already uploaded from the same place. As for getting the Transfer agent to transfer, nada, I asked them a couple of times and then got the response that they could not transfer.? So now I am left with trying to figure out how I can get the crucial info for the members done before I even consider further documents/file uploads.? I do have a fair amount of computer knowledge but not programming stuff and it is programming that doesn't seem to be working with Groups I think.? Same with Yahoo perhaps? Lola,
Hello, I am new to Groups.io and have tried to transfer our group from Yahoo with no luck.? I have been trying to upload files to the "Files" section of Groups.io and find that it will upload but when the link is clicked it attempts to go to my computer to locate the file?? It is probably prompting you to download the file to your computer. Depending on file type, and the browser and its settings the file might not open directly in the browser but require it to be downloaded to your computer first. ?How can I get the file to remain on the Server, in other words copy it to the Server from which other members of the group can access? If the file is showing in the group's lists of files, with its name as a link, then it is stored at Groups.io, and your other members can access it from the file list. See below: I did ask the Groups.io support but they referred me to this group.? I did raise this question here a week or so ago but have not found a response. Hmm, I don't see any other postings from you in this group, perhaps there's a different "here", or you used a different email address to log in? No matter, hopefully this clears things up for you. As an aside, why not have the transfer agent copy your Y!Group''s files directly into your Groups.io group so that you don't need to upload them?

Re: Problem with Norton
I have always refused to use Norton because it takes over control of your computer.? Everyone who I have come in contact with using Norton have ditched it.? There are plenty of other Anti-virus, Firewall programs out there that do the job just as well if not better without trying to take control.? I only had it for a few minutes because the person uploading a program for me didn't pay attention and didn't uncheck the box asking if you wanted Norton to be installed.
The first time I tried to do something Norton didn't like it tried to block me so I killed it and went back to my previous trusty program and didn't look back. I have had many systems since but SOPHOS and Avast appear, to me at least the best at the moment.? There are free and paid versions of course of both. That's my "newbie's" penny's worth, new to this group but not computers, etc. Cheers. Lola. |
Re: Problem with Norton
Hi Pat, Do you keep your Norton updated? If not, get it up to date, not all updates are automatic. I ask this because about a week ago, a bunch of us went through that and we had to turn off Norton Safe Web on Chrome and the Norton Toolbar on Firefox. I called Norton Support and after 2 hours on the phone, re-installation of Norton and Chrome, the tech gave up and said she was going to push it up a level and they would call me. I never heard anymore but last Tuesday the problem stopped. Like another member suggested, clear your browser cookies and history. If this doesn't work then you may want to disable Norton and enable MS Defender or one of the other free security programs to see if detects the same "identity theft." If it does, then you may have a real problem. Paul, Ohio, USA

I've tried reaching the groups.io developer but the support email is not working and I've tried to contact Norton, but of course am not getting a response. Does anyone have any advice?? Thanks.? Re: What's going on here?
Dave,
Do you mean from any email they sent, or just to the group? Technically, to any Groups.io group. Because I don't see where any of them sent anything to the group. It could also happen in a reply to an invitation, but that wouldn't apply to members copied over by a group transfer.
