Transfer notification for members - maybe helpful
My group was transferred a couple of days ago, and it was perfect.
Concerning my members I took quite a few steps which seemed to be reassuring to them and which might be helpful for Ygroup owners who are still waiting for transfer or thinking about it: 1st: Before initiating the transfer proceedings I put a statement about the prospective transfer on the Ygroup description site. 2nd: I initiated transfer proceedings. 3rd: With the export function in the YG members list I made an excel database of all members? email-adresses. 4th: I then sent an Email to each member showing the cover photo of their old Ygroup and a few sentences about the Yg misfits and the prospective transfer.* 5th: I deleted the returning bounced members whose adresses didn?t function any more from the old group.** 6th: In the description of the new group I wrote a few sentences to the members to welcome them and explain that this was their new group. * There are supermailers with which this can be done easily. ** I knew that there were dozens of members who didn?t even know they had subscribed to the group (10 or more years ago). This procedure was overwhelmingly successful. Only three members of the remaing members unsubscribed since, (although I count with a couple more in the next few weeks). Notice for group owners from not English speaking countries: As long as there are no international versions of groups.io I use the #hashtag function to translate the basic terms into German. Although in Germany English is widely spoken, there are quite a good number of people (older ones or such from the Eastern part of the country) who do not know these terms. We will also translate some of the underlying phrases and put them into a glossary file. Victoria |
Receive messages twice
Thanks for the answer, Shal,
Your wrote: "Do you mean they appear twice in your email inbox? Or appear twice in the group's Messages section? And do you mean all messages, including those posted by other members? Or do you mean all of your own message posts? If you mean your Inbox, and you mean your own messages, then have a look at the very bottom of a pair of them. Does one have the group footer and the other not? If that's the case then the one without the group footer is a copy of the message you sent, while the one with the group footer is the copy sent back to you as a member of the group. Depending on your email interface that may be normal behavior." They appeared twice in my email box. This has stopped now without me doing anything about it. For the case it?ll happen again, I will save your message for advice. Victoria |
files recurring periodically in the group
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello, all, ? I couldn?tfind an answer to this in the help side so I pose it here: ? I Yahoo groups there was a possibility to mark files containing important information to appear periodically in the group. ? In groups.io I can?t find that device. Can you help me with that or doesn?t it exist? ? Victoria |
Re: someone who unsubscribes then is able to resubscribe without my permission
Harlan,
For what it is worth. The canned message that goesto people AFTER theThere has been some speculation in another thread that some of this results from members who wanted to unsubscribe from the Yahoo Group, but due to glitches were unable to do so. Now, presented the opportunity afresh, they took it. I added my OWN wording in the space I was allowed to add, but II'm a little confused by this. The Invite type of Member Notice has boilerplate, but it isn't used during a transfer. The Welcome type of Member notice is used, if Active, but you control the entirety of that message body. There is also, if you don't uncheck it, a "You have been added to ..." message from Groups.io, but you cannot provide any text to that -- unless that is a Premium feature? ... so I also had a lot of people go directly TO the groups.io pageOh, you mean they went to the Groups.io home page first, and saw the feature description for the product? Heh. The groups I've transferred have all been fairly small (a few hundred members) and had gone fairly dormant prior to the transfer. So I haven't had a lot of experience yet with members confused by all the features of Groups.io. Re: Message History Up Tick
Don,
Have you noticed the up tick in Message History since December?I hadn't looked at the chart, but yeah, it sure has felt like that. Must be related to transfers from other places to Groups.IO.No doubt. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: Address not found
You are correct. Now I can get to them. I didn't seem to have this happen before, but maybe my sequence was different.

Al,
1. When I sent an invitation to [email protected], one area of theWhat page, the Invite page in your Yahoo Group? Unless you accidentally typed transfer@... I don't understand why it would say that. Maybe check the Membership tab of your Yahoo Group's Activity Log to be sure that it says you invited [email protected]. 2. How do I make [email protected] a Moderator if he doesn't (yet)Yes, the transfer agent needs to accept your invitation. Re: Address not found
p.s., I just got an email message that the subgroup has been approved, but I still get the 'Address not found' messages when I try to go into the main group or subgroup.

That makes sense.? Thanks. Harlan ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of J_Catlady

They CAN resubscribe themselves if they ¡®left¡¯ due to marking a message spam. It used to confuse me, too. The language used in the notification could be more clear. I would check whether the word ¡®spam¡¯ appears in your original notification or log entry that they left. If so, then they probably resubscribed via the automatic email they got from the system allowing them to do so. ?

Is there a delay between steps 2 and 3 of Yahoo Transfer?
Al Rovner
Hi all, I'm a newbie here, trying to move my radio club's Yahoo group to here. I've done steps 0-2 of the Yahoo transfer instructions but have a couple questions.
1. When I sent an invitation to [email protected], one area of the page said the invitation was OK and in other area it said "this is not a valid Yahoo mail address", which is true, it isn't. Is there anything to worry about here? 2. How do I make [email protected] a Moderator if he doesn't (yet) appear as a member of my Yahoo group? Does something have to take place between steps 2 and 3 of the instructions? Does groups.io have to do something at this step? Thank you for any pointers, Al Rovner Vancovuer, Wash. |
Re: "Pending Subscription" message didn't send correctly
J_Catlady
Not sure what you mean but I have frequently resorted to admitting the member even before getting the questionnaire back, just because I know that sometimes the questionnaire goes into a black hole. In those cases I ask them to do it later and remove them if they refuse.

Two things for the new owner to try:

Re: "Pending Subscription" message didn't send correctly
Yes, I mean that moderator/owner has no choice but wait to receive the requested info in response to the Pending Member Notice and be careful not to approve the subscriber before it is received.
