Reverification Successful
I have a group that has not had any new posts (messages) for six months. Recently, the group has decided to be more active with posting. As a result, I've looked at the membership list to invite a few more members. While there, I noticed a couple members have the "RS" by their names. From reading Groups.io help FAQs about Reverification, it looks like I don't need to worry about the RS being by their names. Will the "RS"s go away eventually? |

Because of the way the site is set up, I feel that each group should be responsible for their content.? For example, I'm sure your group has predominantly UK members.? However, even in this case, the ToS should cover any complaints anyone might have.

Re: Online Safety Act (UK)
We are definitely not an "email/SMS/MMS only" group - our members love to share night sky photographs they take. I suspect this is where we drop into the scope of the Ofcom checker - none of the exemptions appeared to apply to our group.
?
This takes me down other rabbit holes - we have a website where we publicly share information about the society and images taken by members; we have a YouTube channel where we share recordings of some of the talks given at our meetings. I'll hope that Google and YouTube are responding to Ofcom for these.
?
My puzzle is whether Groups.io is responding on our behalf for discussion groups.

there must logically be a topic table¡ªat least containing the topic nametopics have a number which forms part of the URL that you see in the address bar of your browser. For this topic on GMF it is 110644003. You can have multiple topics with the same subject. ?

If you wish to only extract certain topics and their associates messages, you can look to use the /gettopic endpoint of the API.? You'd need to write your own code to do that though. The /gettopic endpoint will return the messages for a specific topic in a Message List Object. You'll need to parse that and look for individual message objects. The body element of each message object should contain the message text:

Beyond that, you will also find an attachments element with details of any attachments the message has:

As Duane said, it could take some work on your part!
?
In a word, No.? Attachments are connected to messages so you need to get the message details as described above to get the download URL for each attachment.
?
You can view a list of all the attachments for your messages though with links back to the individual messages. If you have a Premium group, then go to Admin > Preferences > $ Billing and use the View Attachments link. If you have a free group, then it's Admin > Preferences > + Upgrade.

Suggestions need to be made on the beta group in order for Groups.io management to see them. I think you need to try the export function to see what you actually get.? Attachments are NOT one of the options, but they're included with each message. ?

Re: exporting data
Dear friends,
?
Thanks for all replies and advice!
?
Again about downloading message data and related information and topic data: I understand from the messages that downloading this data is not currently possible, but it would be great if this functionality could be implemented in the future. ? One more question: is it possible to download all attachments from a group at once? ? Best regards, Chris |

A topic is just a collection of one or more messages (with the same topic id). There's no option to just download selected topics. There's no option within Groups.io to make printable lists of selected messages so you would need to use the features from another application to do that.? If I open a topic with multiple messages in my browser (Firefox) and do a print screen (ctrl + p) then it will generate a multi-page preview that I can print which includes in-line images.? It won't show attached images though. ?
I also use a utility called and this has the ability to capture scrolling windows:

If I open a topic with multiple messages, I can use this to capture all the messages in a single page document. It'll give you a preview of what it has captured and you can crop out things like browser toolbars and footers etc. before saving it as a PDF or a one of a variety of picture formats. You can also send the capture to Word, Excel or PowerPoint.?? Again, though, it will capture in-line images as you see those on the screen but it will not open and show you attachments (which could be pictures or other documents).

exporting data
?
Hi friends,
?
1. Is it possible to get a list of all topics in my group as owner/admin and export it?
2. Is there an easy way to make a printable list of a selection of messages including its meta-data and message-number and (if possible) a picture of attachments?
?
Best regards,

Re: Online Safety Act (UK)
I'm not sure that really applies to us. Some members of one of my groups have email turned off within the group, but read and respond to messages directly from the web interface. So it would be hard to say that our "only" user-generated content is by the methods named. Still, I doubt we'd really be affected. -P.
