Phone number? That's odd. Groups.io does not capture phone numbers at all, unless this person voluntarily provided it somewhere else.
?
If this person is putting their phone number in their sig line, they simply need to stop doing it. That's just asking for trouble, no matter where you send your emails.

P.S. At one time, GMF Moderators were removing such contact info during moderation, but it became such a common occurrence that we kinda got sick of it and gave up.

Re: Privacy

Adding, Phone numbers are not contained in user profiles, unless the user voluntarily adds it as "other data"

Re: groups.io will not accept a group's member's e.mail forward from gmail

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Not so fast.... The first actual use by my cell phone company sending it an email gets me that same error as before... gmail decorates the from address with +caf_

and groups.io rejects it:

510 5.1.1 Your email address, mhcgfx1b9j+caf_=p7j3q9k5=groups.io@..., is not subscribed to that group. To subscribe, send an email to [email protected], or visit /g/p7j3q9k5

This never happens with any of my other groups.io groups with gmail forwards! And none of the other groups allow anyone but members to send email to the group AND there are no "aliases" that other posters have talked about.

when I (I'm a group member) send an email to the forwarded gmail (mhcgfx1b9j@...) it gets processed correctly and there are no aliases and the group settings are still "members only can send".

Why is this STILL broken?

I'm back at Witt's End again!

Hi Rich

Forgive me if I misunderstand you but you seem to be berating those in this group who are just trying to help you

This is not a support group of groups.io but rather group owners just like you who are experienced using groups.io

Here in GMF, you're set to Daily Summary. This reflects only new topics. If your Moderators send a message to an existing topic, you will receive nothing.

If all that seems okay, look at your own Email Delivery History and report back what you find. You'll find that at Subscription>Delivery History.

Yes, that seems to be the problem.

Have you perhaps managed to join that group using a different email address so that you have two accounts on groups.io?

groups.io is complaining that the gmail-sent email to confirm mom's new membership is not related to her email but rather forwarding-noreply@....

What you are saying is to log into my mom's groups.io and create an alias of forwarding-noreply@....

That just doesn't seem right either. What alias will I use for another, new group member that I want to forward their gmail to the group? It will report the SAME forwarding-noreply@......

Based on these facts how does ANYONE trying to forward a gmail to a groups.io work at all?

No one has addressed these facts. No one has addressed the fact that I have gmail forwards to some of my other groups that were created long ago do NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM and no aliases and they work fine!

Something bad has happened at gmail and or groups.io that has broken this and no one has addressed this.

Long ago I moved all my goggle groups to groups.io and many had gmail forwards and NONE of them had this problem. Why can't someone explain why this is broken now and how to fix it. I dont have any "alias" for any of all these I setup long ago....

thanks for trying.

True -if added to the group as a separate account-, but if you had a paid*** group you could direct-add her so no confirmation email would be sent out. (*** or setup an integration as Bruce mentioned)

But the alias part is no worry, there are no confirmation emails sent to an alias since it's not a regular account but just a nickname, so no group emails or whatnot will ever go to that alias. Aliases just allow someone to post something from a different email address but when posted it looks like it came from the main address, not the alias. All group messages (if this account was setup to receive them) would go to the main address, not the alias.

I dont know how to create an alias. I did some searching but didnt find it.

That info would be in the User manual, not the Owner manual, it's in here. You need to be logged in as her, go to the upper right of screen where the account settings are, all the way down click on Aliases, add the address and save.

Christos

Have you tried the other button on that page - Log In if you are already a member. That doesn't seem to show if you are already logged into Groups.io ?(or at least for me). I tried with a private window and then I see that button.

Despite the article at the attached link n the OP's post, if anything like what's suggested in the article should come to pass, I'm betting that Mark Fletcher is aware of that and likely already has a plan in place for such an eventuality.
