¡°We have Roster in Files that contains name address and phone.¡±

?

  1. Is the group private?
  2. Is the roster in Files that contains those names, addresses, and phone numbers restricted to the membership? To the moderator? To the owner?
  3. If the list is readable by _anyone_, that list is capable of being legitimately downloaded by any of your members.? At that point, you have lost control of the data . . . at that point, it is out in the wild.? It has escaped the security features provided by Groups.io . .. the safety of that data now depends on the owner of the device it was downloaded to.? If that individual doesn¡¯t have reasonable protection and practices in place the data is more likely to have been stolen off that computer, not groups.io.

?

Safety begins at home; strong passwords, OS and all other software kept up to date, Software such as Norton, or other, to provide scanning and detection, stay away from sketchy websites, take a good look at all unsolicited e-mails, even those that profess to be from folks you do business with (I get all kinds of phishing software professing to be about ¡°my account¡± when I don¡¯t have an account at that institution.? I get phishing e-mails purporting to be from my actual bank account that don¡¯t originate at the banks domain ¨C example: an e-mail from Wells Fargo, but the actual e-mail address is ¡°Âá´Ç³ó²Ô.Âá´Ç²Ô±ð²õ°ª...¡± . Believe me, Wells Fargo hasn¡¯t retained John Jones to send you e-mail from your personal address!

?

Bottom line, its not likely (but it¡¯s not impossible) your problem began with someone not in your group accessing your list in your files section.? Most likely the problem began when one of your members downloaded that data to their less than secure device.

maintain privacy and safety with a no-names policy

Recent discussions of privacy and safety concerns spur me to suggest to others what my group requires:? No use of names!? If an email address uses a real name, then the member must get a gmail or other new address using something other than a name.? The name itself, of course, cannot be anyone's actual name. Our longstanding need for privacy is due to other concerns, but given the address harvesting and other dangers lurking these days, I recommend it to other groups.

If it's not already, you need to change it to Restricted Membership under Group Type And Moderation.

Phone number? That's odd. Groups.io does not capture phone numbers at all, unless this person voluntarily provided it somewhere else.
?
If this person is putting their phone number in their sig line, they simply need to stop doing it. That's just asking for trouble, no matter where you send your emails.

P.S. At one time, GMF Moderators were removing such contact info during moderation, but it became such a common occurrence that we kinda got sick of it and gave up.

Re: Privacy

Adding, Phone numbers are not contained in user profiles, unless the user voluntarily adds it as "other data"

Re: groups.io will not accept a group's member's e.mail forward from gmail

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Not so fast.... The first actual use by my cell phone company sending it an email gets me that same error as before... gmail decorates the from address with +caf_

and groups.io rejects it:

510 5.1.1 Your email address, mhcgfx1b9j+caf_=p7j3q9k5=groups.io@..., is not subscribed to that group. To subscribe, send an email to [email protected], or visit /g/p7j3q9k5

This never happens with any of my other groups.io groups with gmail forwards! And none of the other groups allow anyone but members to send email to the group AND there are no "aliases" that other posters have talked about.

when I (I'm a group member) send an email to the forwarded gmail (mhcgfx1b9j@...) it gets processed correctly and there are no aliases and the group settings are still "members only can send".

Why is this STILL broken?

I'm back at Witt's End again!

I've just set up email forwarding from a test gmail account I have to Groups.io and it works fine. I suspect the reason that Groups.io is rejecting the confirmation email is because you have not set Allow Nonmembers to Post in your Message Policies.

As you can see, if you don't have this, messages will be rejected.? When this is set, the confirmation message will be held in the pending message queue where you can view it and click on the confirmation link.? Once that is done, you need to go back to the Gmail account and enable the forwarding. You can also delete the confirmation message from the pending queue.

This is not a support group of groups.io but rather group owners just like you who are experienced using groups.io

In each group, click open Subscription>Settings and make sure Email Delivery is set to Individual Messages.

Here in GMF, you're set to Daily Summary. This reflects only new topics. If your Moderators send a message to an existing topic, you will receive nothing.

If all that seems okay, look at your own Email Delivery History and report back what you find. You'll find that at Subscription>Delivery History.
