Mapping users to messages after a YG transfer? #transfer

RFS

Hi,

New member here. About to move our small neighborhood YG to groups.io.?

If I invite all our users at their YG email addresses, but they opt to change them?before a message transfer completes (there seems to be an understandable backlog), have we lost any ability to map them to their old messages? Or will there be some other mechanism for linking them later?

Is my only option to not invite folks until after the message transfer completes (or just opt for a user+message transfer)?

Thanks!

Changing default sort in files.

I am trying to set different default sort for files in my folder in the files section of the site. It possible to have the default set to the Uploaded column?
Thanks, Diane

Re: Directory

Dumb question. I just discovered that if I click on 'Members' under Settings there is an option to download and it downloads the members in the exact form I want.

Deleting Messages

I have just started a group on groups.io and I have a couple of questions.

Deleting messages seems to be an issue.? ?You can click on the little arrow and get the option to delete that one message only.?
Is it possible to have the option to 'check-all' and hit a delete button?? It's very time consuming doing one at a time.
I would like to be able to check them all and delete them when I have time.? All these messages go to each member so I see
no need to keep them after a week or so.

Thanks much

Messages under wrong year!

Our former Yahoo group has been successfully moved onto IO, what an improvement!!! The only bug is a few messages are archived in 1996, our group didn't start until September 1998, as I want to keep the group net and tidy is there any way of "moving" these messages

Part of the problem maybe that on the Yahoo site none of the months in 1998 have active hyperlinks?

Any suggestions please?

Thanks

Groups.io logos, nomenclature, etc.

One thing I'm struggling with as we migrate...how to cleanly advertise this on our web page and in our newsletter?

The groups.io logo is nondescript at best, and doesn't invite anyone to click on it. In web text and emails, it's very clumsy to repeatedly refer to the migrated group as "our new collaboration site". Calling it "our groups.io group" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, either.

I'd be interested to hear what others are doing to mitigate this problem.

Delay on Transferring Groups

Is there a back log or delay on getting a group transferred over to IO?

If not is there a email address we can write to and see if a problem has occurred?

Thanks

Joe

Re: Groups.io site updates #changelog

It was great when CCs were stripped. I hate that competitors' groups are "advertised". ?

But you can create a password so your device remembers you - linger than 30 days.
Go to your group home page, log in if necessary and on the top right - your name - you can create a password.?

It's only copied and Yahoo passwords are not copied.

My understanding is once you sign in to Groups.io, you don¡¯t have to sign in again for 30 days. If you want anything inside of Groups.io like files and photos, then you have to go into the Groups.io site The only thing you can do outside the site is email posting, just like Yahoo Groups.

What's the deal with having to sign up again every 30 days? ?Can only receive email, but can't get to files and photos?

Re: What happens to the YG

The transfer process 'copies' the information from YG to Groups.io, and
nothing is lost at the YG. The only thing that is not transferred are
Attachments.

Re: A Transferred Attachment

Shal,

I was looking at the wrong email that I gave you information on, as a few replies before that email I found the right one.

The image was done by another person, and they told how they did it. They "composed message with Rich Text Editor function. Drag/dropped photo into message editor." He was using Firefox on a Mac.

Re: A Groups.io group used as a mirror for an existing, other mailing list. Is this feature offered?

Sounds like something an Email Integration could do.

Hello Shal:

What is that and how is it done?

That generates a unique email address which could be subscribed to the mirrored list, and which is allowed to post in the Groups.io list.

?
If there was any way to generate such an email address, that would do it.

I'm not sure how the mirrored messages are attributed - that is, I don't know if they appear to be "From" the integration address or the address of the original poster to the mirrored list.

Probably From the poster's ID rather than from the list (posting ID)
Here is a sample of a post I made tonight:
The first is the message in the online archives:
The second is from the archives or the mirroring group's archives at Google Groups:
and here it is in the Groups.io archives to which I manually posted the message:

?It seems that in all three cases the poster's ID is designated in the From header.

I would like to subscribe the Groups.io Permaculture Group to the ibiblio permaculture mailing list, which the Google Groups permaculture Group is already subscribed (and grandfathered in to continue using the mirroring feature, which Google has now discontinued).
