Re: Emailed Photos Album

I have two concerns about the Emailed Photos album. My Group members continue to ask me why that album is there and what it is for; I have no answer to give them. There seems no consensus on whether the Emailed Photos album takes up storage space in addition to the attachment in the original message (with it attached photo) stored in Messages. I know message text is not counted toward total storage but attachments do count toward storage.

Duane and Bruce insist the photos in Emailed Photos do take up storage but this comment is ambiguous about whether that *doubles* the amount of storage counted for attached photos. Do we really know?

Deleting a photo from either the Emailed Photos album or from the message in the message archive does removed the photo from both places; I have verified that. It is reasonable to infer that only one actual storage location is being used and that total storage used is not doubled, but Duane and Bruce have not said that and it is not clear.

Problem is, that Emailed Photos album continues to grow and grow. It is very difficult to delete multiple photos from any album, including Emailed Photos. That is a feature we *really* need!

Ok, so it is possible to get to the original message from a photo in Emailed Photos. I am surely not the only one who did not realize that! It is surely not a prominent feature, though I can understand it has some utility.

I don't remember if Yahoo Groups had an Emailed Photos album. Maybe that folder idea just got carried over to groups.io. But, if it doubles storage space, it is a bad idea! And, its presence consistently confuses Group members who continue to ask why it is there and what it is for. They realize that, as members, they cannot delete photos there. And, as it grows larger and larger is has less and less utility.

I was unaware of the ability to go from a photo in this album to the original message. I now understand the utility of these photos.

Re: Emailed Photos Album

Hi Jim,
?
Re: I cannot help but wonder why one would want to look at the photo attachments in a separate album, since they typically have no context without the message.?
?
I belonged to Yahoogroups before Groups.io but we didn't transfer anything over.? The old Yahoogroups also had the Emailed Photos. We are a group of card-makers here.
?
There are members who don't care to come to the site to view things and some who come to the site just to look at the cards.? By having the Emailed Photos, they don't have to read all the emails, they can simply look at the cards, get inspiration, and go on making cards.
?
That's a benefit of having the Emailed Photos - everything in one place - photo-wise and they can look until they see the last one they saw the last time they came into the site and stop there.
?
We are a busy site with lots of photo attachments and uploads.? Some are only interested in looking at the photos.
?
Sincerely,
?

There's a "Delete Group" button at the bottom of the Settings page.

You will have to confirm the decision twice: Once via an alert box and a second time by typing "I understand" in a dialog.

If you first click on an image, and subsequently click on the "Message" button below, that will bring up the corresponding message.

And now it seems equivocal if they are taking up allotted storage space.?
Yes. They are attachments.
- They are stored in the same place as other attachments
- They count against your allocation like other attachments, and
- They can be set up to automatically delete if your storage gets low, like other attachments.?

They can be downloaded and them placed elsewhere.
Yes, if you want to.

In doing so, please note that if you fail to delete the original you're doubling the amount of storage used. That seemed to be Larry's main concern, although I'm really not sure anymore.

Even Basic groups have Emailed Photos. It is not an "album" like the others. You cannot upload photos to it, nor can you migrate photos in and out of it, as you can with other albums.

It's just a convenient way to look at photo attachments.

Re: Emailed Photos Album

If an attached photo from a message in the archive is deleted from that message, it is removed from the Emailed Photos Album. Just verified that.
?
If a photo in the Emailed Photos Album is deleted from that Album, it also is removed from the archived message. Just verified that.
?
So, does every attached photo use twice the storage space of the one attached photo? ?The GMF reply below is confusing, as it states photos in the Emailed Photos Album do take up storage space.
--

The archived messages do not count as part of your storage quota. So the attached emails are not counted twice.?

There is a more explicit list in the Pricing document in Groups.io footer.

See Pricing - /static/pricing

and the third FAQ.

The following are counted towards the storage limits for your group:

Files

Photos

Images in databases

Images in wiki pages

Message attachments

Messages themselves are not counted towards the storage limits, only any attachments.

See Pricing -?/static/pricing
and the third FAQ.

Re: Emailed Photos Album

That GMF reply included below confuses me. Messages with attached photos are seen in the message archive with the attached photos displayed with the message. If the same photos are also stored in the Emailed Photos Album, is the used storage doubled, one for the attachment with the message and one in the Emailed Photos album?

If an attached photo from a message in the archive is deleted from that message, it is removed from the Emailed Photos Album. Just verified that.

If a photo in the Emailed Photos Album is deleted from that Album, it also is removed from the archived message. Just verified that.

So, does every attached photo use twice the storage space of the one attached photo? The GMF reply below is confusing, as it states photos in the Emailed Photos Album do take up storage space.

The link GMF provided to Owners Manual page, "Items that count towards the storage limit," does not show "Emailed Photos."

What is the useful purpose of the Emailed Photos Album?

MODERATOR: this text is intended to be explicit! Please don't shorten it or it won't be clear to others.

Re: Strange E-Maiil from Groups.io?

Joe,

If you do nothing, you will be deleted from all your groups.io lists. Replying
to that particular email is the easy way to re-verify your account. You can
instead log into groups.io using your password or the "email me a link to login"
link and log in using that to qualify as an active account.

Groups.io is following-up on the ones who haven't re-verified their email
address is active, so you still have a few days to do so.

Microsoft 365 and Outlook servers were having issues again as of yesterday morning. It appears reliability is on a downhill trend with them. :(

Lisa, looking through the "Most Recent Unsuccessful Attempts" logs of several members I'm seeing the following under a couple of hotmail users.

hotmail-com.olc.protection.outlook.com: 451 4.7.651 The mail server [45.79.224.9] has been temporarily rate limited due to IP reputation. For e-mail delivery information, see https://postmaster.live.com (S3114) [AMS1EPF00000045.eurprd04.prod.outlook.com 2024-03-13T23:08:01.183Z 08DC3F84FC12B35B]?
