Is the link to prompt new members for a sassword not working?

This from one of my members:

Hi Anne,
Thanks for doing this! I tried to do this, as suggested:
  • When you visit??for the first time, you will be prompted by a link that will ask you to set up a password.? This will allow you to view the message archives online, regardless of your email address.
But when I clicked on the link, I wasn't prompted to do anything. Do I need to login/sign up as an individual to access Freecycle via this new platform?
?

Do subgroups require hashtags if main group does? #hashtags

At least, that seems to be the case in a sub group I created. Is there a way around that?

Re: email issue

I just got a response from the individual. He never saw a '+subscribe'. Yet, the correct email address that contains the '+subscribe' is in the original message (I looked in Sent Mail) I sent him to try subscribing. I don't know what happened. This is an example of where I should have verified everything with him first before I posted this to the group. He is a very astute person and I cannot imagine how he did this.

Re: Hiding Subscriber Email Address?

Ken,

Is anyone familiar with a setting within the admin or subscriber
settings for a subscriber to hide their return Email address.
Groups.io has no equivalent to the Y!Groups option:
Hide Email: |_| Allow members to hide their email address from the group
which allows members to hide their email and IP addresses.

My initial reaction is to suggest setting up an alternate web based
email account (you can have multiple Google accounts) and using that
email for groups.io or other social media.
That's probably his/her best option. Choosing Gmail will hide their IP address so long as they post via the Gmail web interface.

Re: email issue

Just asking a dumb question about the naming of the groups, once you create a subgroup - is there a reason the name of the original group has to change when you create a subgroup?? In the example below, the email addy becomes [email protected]?(before he changed the name) from [email protected]?when a subgroup is created.? My question would be, does that have to happen?? Another related question, if someone is still sending emails to the original group name, so Arizona-Astronomers@...?will that email still go through to the main group?

It seems like another way to be confusing if I have JUST told my members the email address for the group is one thing, and then it changes once you create a subgroup.

Sorry to be so confused.

Re: Hiding Subscriber Email Address?

There's not currently a way to hide it in posts that go out by email.? There has been some discussion on beta@ about having anonymous groups where this would be possible, but nothing has been done yet.? It's no worse than the way YG is.

Stan,

My confirmation email was rejected. Tried forwarding it but your server rejected it for the .eml attachment. See below:

Minor Question

I primarily use SeaMonkey as my internet browser. I have the most recent version but sometimes it does not display a web site correctly and I have to go to using FireFox.

When I created the new IO group I did it in SeaMonkey. I uploaded am image to take the place of the default Elephants image. It displayed in SeaMonkey. Then I did some more fiddling around with the settings and deleted it. When I re-uploaded it again, it would not display in SeaMonkey. I now have to go to FireFox to see it as well as all the images I uploaded for the subgroups I created. What did I do that caused it not to display in SeaMonkey? As an aside, how can I make a cover image the same size as the Elephants image?

Also, when I was exploring what all the options were for the uploaded cover image (by right clicking on the mouse) one of the options I clicked on wiped out the customized Windows background color. It reverted to the yukky gloomy default Windows background color. I had to go back and recreate the color I like. It also wiped out the custom cursors for the mouse. I had to go back and recreate them. I was surprised that IO would modify my Windows settings for features that are not part of the IO group. Does anyone know what happened here?

Does IO work the same way? Specifically:
1. Does a message pop up that someone wants to join or does the
owner/moderator have to go to a specific place to find out if anyone
wants to join, and
2. Can the owner/moderator see any comments the person may have written
in the email message to join? Based on the the comments in the Beta

Hi Stan,
Yes to number 1 and there is no little note like on Yahoo Groups. So your assumption on number 2 is correct.

That would be a good suggestion to make on beta@.? I know Mark is always interested in improvements for accessibility.

The ¡°NuM¡± definition should explain the number after it.
That's explained in the detailed information below that section under Override: new user moderated

That particular email never showed up, it is 27 hours now.
My personal email setting is Default.
I re-sent it and it appeared a few minutes later, and other emails from me to my group have all turned up in a timely manner.
It turns out though that I never received another email that someone else sent to the group, I saw it on the homepage messages... so it is quite possible there is a problem with my Windows Live Mail.
I am having a LOT of problems at the moment because my neighbour had a satellite broadband dish installed last week, and it seems to over-ride MY wireless network. While I am detecting her signal in my Network Connections list, it is impossible for me to do ANYTHING on the internet successfully... web pages take more than a minute to load... trying to download my emails times out at 5 minutes without being able to download anything... if I am watching something on YouTube, it has to buffer about every 40 seconds... downloads and uploads stop in the middle.
Once her network disappears from the list, everything returns to normal... so I guess that my delayed mail could have been caused by this, I was trying to send it while her connection was visible.
?
Thanks for the suggestions...

The red ¡°B¡± for bouncing is one of the few features that is not accessible to color-blind admins. Maybe change that to an ¡°X¡±? I know at least one person with monochrome vision, and those would two colors of grey background.

Also, my browser shows a stray bit of color following the blue box on the definition for ¡°Owner¡±.

The ¡°NuM¡± definition should explain the number after it.

Otherwise, looks great. Very helpful.

Hi Nancy,

Ok, I've substantially fleshed it in, and changed its title to Status Badges on the Members List. I've also added a link to it in the Best Practices for Group Management section of the wiki home page.

Everyone is encouraged to proof-read it to be sure I haven't messed up the descriptions or forgotten something of importance. It would be great if it were checked for consistency in fact and terminology with the Help page and with messages about these badges both here in GMF and in beta.
