Re: Group Promotion

Hi Bruce,

Thank you. Yes, and has been working flawlessly for a number of years. ?I will go and and do some homework. ?The back story is that the guy who has done the code management of the website got a regular job, was brilliant, got promoted 4 times and is now a senior manager and....the rest is history. I am pretty good at managing thousands in my community, not so good at the details of code.

But your kindness and logic gives me the clarity to pinpoint what happened and find a good solution. And I drive a ?26 year old 4-Runner and sometimes just some random thing breaks. I have a good mechanic. ?That is the missing. part in the code equation right now. LOL. ?My grandson will be moving in today for some respite care. I will have a chat with him first.?

You last suggestion is perfect. I understand it, it makes sense and I can easily sort it. Thank you for the insight!!!

There is still no way to move messages between groups.

Re: How to move messages in the Parent group to subgroup and vice versa #howtoguide #subgroups

This is a subject that was apparently last covered in 2018.
I've got a Group that a message was sent to us by a member on a new subject to us. It has taken on a life of its own - so I created a SubGroup to 'section it out.' I figured there HAD to be a way to simply link, or Forward, or Move, or SOMETHING to get the - now three distinct-but-same-topic - thread ported over to the new SubGroup. And then i checked the Owners Manual, and then this Group threads.

Has any progress or change been made in what I read here - that there's no way to do that?!

I will Merge all of the messages, and then the three Topics together - in the main message gallery. But I so want to get this all over into its own section...

Thanks all.

This suggests that you have 3 members in NC/Bouncing status and 2 members who've been banned.

Do you have any NC or bouncing members as these are not included in the homepage count?

Subscriber Count Discrepancies

For one of my groups, the head count seems to be out of sync between different views. It is for Chatterwood, a non-public group. Here's what I see:
Home page: 603
Membership list: 606
Members in download: 608
I'm looking at this because, subjectively, I Think our group has been slowly growing but the stats are hard to sort out. Maybe the counters are outta sync?

Re: Group Promotion

Kathleen -- This problem with Wordpress is almost an FAQ. Didn't you have this working at one time?

Check out the following:?/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/67893168#25827?

Please also note that if the prospective member already has a groups.io account and is logged in, the promote form will not work. I generally recommend that you provide a mailto: link to the subscribe+ address instead, as it is more versatile.

Bruce

I still use the old-fashioned Wordpress for my housing group website, ie. not Gutenberg nor Elementor, etc.
But here's how I would try to do it.
In Appearance, Widgets. Then Sidebar. Then Custom html.
Paste in the Admin, Promote and the code.

No guarantees! And perhaps you tried this already.?

Are you pasting as plain text?? That has caught several people in the past.

As Duane says, you can't paste that code into a text box, you need to paste it into a "Custom HTML" box.

That said, please note this is a WordPress matter and really should be asked in a WordPress forum.

Lots of detailed information can be found in the Owners Manual and Members Manual.

Group Promotion

I am trying to add a email signup option to a page on my WP site. I copied the code provided in the promote section onto a test page and published it. It simply displays the code and not the signup (subscribe) box.
I check the owner's manual for help but couldn't find anything. Can you direct me?
thank you!

Brenda,

Be aware that anyone who is removed, banned, etc., can get a new email address
and attempt to join under the new address. Depending on how you handle the new
membership process, you may not even be aware of them joining under a different
address.

I had one member who wasn't adhering to our rule about foul language. I banned
the member's email. He joined under a different account, but he is now behaving,
so it accomplished the desired result in the end. I know he did that because of
his writing style, his never quoting anything from a post he is replying to,
etc., but I figured he's learned a lesson and hasn't broken any rules since he
joined again. I could have banned his new address, and kept doing the
whack-a-mole thing, but all that really matters is that he's using appropriate
language now.

Re: #membership a question regarding email address removal #membership

My answers are by the questions you asked.

?

  1. Is there at least one other owner besides this non-active email address that you wish to remove? A moderator is not good enough. You need to be able to upgrade an email address to owner.?
Answer, the inactive one is not set as an owner anymore, but the active one is.

  2. Can you receive email in that non-active email address? If you can, then you can use the Email Me A Link To Log In function.?
    Answer, no I cannot.

?Steph,?

A question - Is there at least one other owner besides this non-active email address that you wish to remove? A moderator is not good enough. You need to be able to upgrade an email address to owner.

Question 2 - Can you receive email in that non-active email address? If you can, then you can use the Email Me A Link To Log In function.?

You can create a new owner
- by promoting another member
- by promoting another of your own email addresses to owner
- by adding another email address for yourself and promoting that to owner. As Joseph mentioned, you need to promote the new email address to owner by logging in with your bouncing email address.

After you have upgraded someone to owner, you can downgrade your other email address to member. You could remove or ban that email address or log into that old account and leave the group if you wish.

We may be able to give you more help if we understood the issue!

Cheers

Hi Steph, before you can remove an address, you need to make another address owner. To accomplish this, going to the member section of your group, find the other email address that you own. And adjust it from member to owner. Then you can go back and remove the other email address.

You can't remove an email address if that is the only owner.
You say "remove it". I would think you can change it.?
At any rate, subscribing with another email address and making that an owner should work.
