I think this is likely the case when yahoo claims an error while loading the content. One of my invites went through before the situation cleared up at least one time.

This is what Mark wrote yesterday in the beta group:

" There's a large backlog of group transfer requests, and I'm trying to work through them. But what's difficult at the moment is that I'm getting a ton of duplicated invites to Yahoo Groups (I have 442 sitting in my mail queue at the moment). Apparently people are getting errors from Yahoo when submitting invite requests, and then submitting invites again, over and over. If you get an error, most likely the invite still went through and you do not need to submit an invite again. "

I have had that problem repeatedly on a group I still have on yahoo.? Usually it lasts for 3 days, and then seems to sort itself out. I just keep going back and trying to send the invite, and eventually it seems to get through. Just another one of the ever growing list of hiccups on yahoo.

Re: Totally private group?

I think the guidelines could be private, or public, or for that matter, nonexistent. They could, for example, say "This is a completely private group and all content is accessible only to approved and current members," which could reasonably be made public. I think it would be up to the group owner as to whether the guidelines document is to be public or private.

Re: Moving database from one IO group to another

The export from group.io is a CSV file.? When saving the export, change or add the extension .csv to the file, then open it with Excel.? The first line has the column headings, followed by one line for each entry.? I use it regularly.

As I added as a moderator of our Yahoo group specifically so I could move us to Groups.io, and I didn't seem to have any problems. I told the owner he may get an email asking for approval, but I think that ended up going to all of the moderators so I replied and it was done. So as someone else said, as long as you can add the Groups.io account as a moderator and set the appropriate permissions for them I would think you're good to go.

What I could also use is a page of videos on how to post messages and calendar events. Otherwise, I'll be sitting with 30 group leaders. We have a group for each interest group--fishing, reading, movies, and lots of eating activities. ;)

Thanks, Duane.
;)

It really would help me get this moving. My group is so old, they want to 'vote' on leaving Yahoo for greener pastures.

Re: Owner dead, only moderators left #groupowner

Some YG moderators can add another moderator (not all YG moderators have this authority).

Barring that, you can down load the list of members e-mail addresses.? Groups.io lets you invite new members a 100 at a time. I considered that option for 1800 members but then the transfer went through.? PG Offline may be able to let a moderator back up the databases, it seems more for list owners; I asked if moderators could download but didn't get a reply.? My backup plan was to have a couple of fellow members back up the files and photos sections to upload to groups.io.

The big concern for some is the archived messages.? Some lists purge messages after a few weeks.? Do you need the messages archive?

[mod note: I don't believe Groups.io invites are limited in number, but over a certain number (20?) the invites will be temporarily held pending for review by Groups.io.]

Totally private group?

Edited

I am seriously considering migrating my Yahoo Group, but, and its a big one.? Can all access be limited to only members?

Our group is a Sheriff's volunteers with some sensitive postings, data base items (phone numbers), calendar (location of DUI checkpoints), etc.

The access must be limited for the site to be useful to us, we have had a private Yahoo group for over 11 years.? Just not listing in the directory is not

enough security.? Looking through the settings and messages on this forum I can't seem to figure out if this is possible.

Thanks in advance,

Pete

Do the following:

Click on Settings
Then scroll down to Message Formatting
Under Attachments select Strip
Scroll down and click on Update Group button

Attachments will then be stripped from e-mails.

Hi

First I am srry about the death of the owner.

If I was mod, I would create a new group and let those whoare still interested join the new list

Or have Mark change owner of the current group

Anyone else?

It may be the culprit of the delays.
I followed your instructions and added the domain groups.io to my whitelist on Aruba (my hosting provider).

However, I receive all messages sent to my @biblit.it address through Gmail. Maybe that's another cause of delay.

Thank you for your help!

Go to the Settings page for your group.? Scroll down to the Message Formatting area.? In the Attachments selection, you can choose Allow, Bounce, or Strip.? For minimal interference, you could choose Strip so the message would go through without the attachment.

If you can create an account that is also a moderator you are halfway there.

Re: Owner dead, only moderators left #groupowner

Backup your membership list, files, and databases to your computer, for a start. Your photos as well, if you have room. To move to groups. io you need to make it a moderator, and I think that takes an owner. I believe you can upload from your computer, however.

The same for me. I sent an invite from my Yahoo group because I kept receiving an error message, but the activity log does not show any invite and there is no pending subscription (in my Yahoo group membership requires approval).
