Re: Monitor Participation
I have been trying to make these special notices to members appear without success. My understanding is that you do not have to set up a hastag symbol for a special message (it creates "#" automatically). I have taken the following route so far -? Admin/settings/member notices/ (notice type) monthly reminder/active -ticked/special notice - ticked/ and then I typed in a simple message and pressed update ! job done I thought, but not so it would appear......
Clearly I am missing some thing along the way because nothing appears (message - wise) to start the ball rolling firstly and then every month after. What part of the procedure have I missed out ..... Barry |

Need help separating one group from my account
Dennis Storzek
Hi,
I manage two groups and subscribe to eight or ten others. Of the two I manage, one is a personal interest hobby group, and the other pertains to work. When I moved two years ago, I was going to lose my long time e-mail address, and, not having a new provider lined up,? I transferred my personal interest groups to my work e-mail. This had the effect of combining the accounts under that e-mail. I am now retiring, and want to hand the work related group off to someone else, but I can find no obvious way to separate it from my account. What am I missing? I don't want to lose continuity with any of the groups. Thanks, Dennis Storzek |
Database change notifications to moderators

This is an exceptional and beneficial feature, especially when a bunch of amateurs may be banging around in your database. Their 'help' is invaluable and save hours of research and entry, but...
I've found a few items within the Users and Owners manuals on this but I can't find anything addressing this specific process. And, having just (within the hour) published/released my first Database within our Forum, just gotten the first Notice of Change by a member. I got a brief email that simply said: "(member [email address]) updated row in Last Alarm Roster". And I thought...'that's nice.' But, gee, I wonder which column in which (of 128) row(s) he made the change. Nothing in the Manuals suggests columnar details (though that would be nice - like specifying which cell in a spreadsheet), I figured it would at least suggest the Row. In reading the text of the message, I'm led to believe that the message is/was actually intended to read "(member [email address]) updated row (fill in the blank) in Last Alarm Roster". But it obviously did not populate with the Row Number. I had to go into the Db, make 'Visible' the 'Updated' column (by default hidden), then find it hidden off the window to the right - with no scroll bar at the bottom of the screen to suggest that it was over there - and look for today's date/time to locate the Row, then assess the complete Row to identify the apparent anomaly from the original entries. Did I miss something? Am I looking for something? that is not there? How is this supposed to appear and report? This may actually be a Bug instead of a ManagerForum post. Thanks all. |

Frances, and Mark (in abstention),
Thanks! I had not discovered or understood that feature in the manual yet - and don't think it was available until just very recently (Thanks Mark). And it helps - just a little bit. But it only shows in the 'Members' view, and only places a small dot next to the entry. I was looking for a way for the username to arrive, as in an email, in the color of choice, similar to: Dan Sandi Bill As an owner/moderator, I can get into the member list and see the whole thing. I'm looking for a way for the members to recognize who/what 'level' is sending whatever it is that they are receiving. With the immense help of Ken Kloeber, I'm working on a Wiki (well, trying to learn enough about it to make one work). And am working on a database listing our deceased members. But I'm looking at lots of messages coming through from lots of members and knowing that some/many of them don't know anyone that's hired on since they retired - and that timeframe spans 40 years now. |

A few days later I was notified by Groups.io that "I" was removed as a member (and thus owner-moderator) of my group because my message and link was considered "spam" !!!Joseph -- I suspect this is not the same problem that Tess is having. You were removed because you (or your provider) marked a legitimate group message as spam. Your provider then sends groups.io a notice that you don't want to receive any more messages "like this." On this basis you were removed. More information at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/5115?and at??? This may seem extreme, but in my own experience it's not at all uncommon for someone to purposely mark a message as spam instead of trying to figure out how to unsubscribe. Again...and this is very important...no one has accused you of spamming your own group. In fact, if you had, you would not have been removed. As was previously explained to Tess, groups.io does not apply spam filters to incoming messages sent by fully vetted group members. It is up to the group owners/moderators to decide what is appropriate email traffic for their group, and deal with noncompliant members accordingly. Hello Frances
Thanks for the reply --- but (a) I use a COMPUTER and its keyboard to create my messages --- NOT a cell phone, tablet, etc.? (b)? My co-owner was not in any way involved in "removing" me - and I never stated that nor implied that.? What I did say that IF I
had to rejoin as a regular member,? my co-moderator-owner would be able to make me an owner and moderator again using his tools to do so.

How can someone UNintentionally do this? Some email phone apps (I'm told Yahoo's email app is like this) have the delete and delete as spam buttons so close together that it's easy to tap on the wrong button and mark the massage as spam when the user really intended to just delete the message because it's been read. As Frances mentioned, an ISP may have a spam folder they routed the message to, and after a set period of time, they delete the message. That counts as deleting the message as spam. Also, some ISPs have a spam folder that the user may not even see or know about (like Roadrunner email) unless they use the web interface for email. I found this out after some expected emails never made it to my inbox. Tech support for Roadrunner email let me know about this unseen folder and my options. I chose to have all suspected spam forwarded to my inbox but append [SPAM] to the subject line so I know it MAY be spam (it rarely is and they rarely flag anything as spam now).
