Re: Blank email to join address has stopped working #membership #subgroup

Frances and Bruce,
Thanks so much for your response and I think we're in better shape now. the new applicant did indeed have anon-standard email client. We also had our Invite instruction email telling them to send a new email to a certain address to [groupname][email protected]? which I now think is inaccurate.
I found that in fact all they should do is directly reply to the invite email to get the entire address string as you mentioned.? I've re-worded our invite message to clarify the reply process and hoping this will fix it.? Thanks again!

Re: Blank email to join address has stopped working #membership #subgroup

Like Frances, I am unable to reproduce this problem. I sent my alternate email address an invitation to a subgroup. Both the subgroup and the main group are Restricted. When I replied to it, that address was duly added to both the subgroup and the main group. Neither went into Pending.

Note that the address to reply to has a long name, something like?subgroupname+invite+1234567890123456789+1234567 @ maingroupname.groups.io? ??If the recipient's mail client (or mail provider) doesn't like that for some reason, perhaps it's never being sent. It might be helpful to know what their provider is, and if you've had similar problems with others who use this provider.

Also, the invitation contains a link to the +owner address. If the person "replied" to that instead, that's not going to work, either.

Finally, please note that invitations expire after 14 days.

Hoping something in there helps.

Bruce

I just tested and it works.

Remember too that you can gussy up your invitation - add text, use formatting, etc.?

Re: Blank email to join address has stopped working #membership #subgroup

Did this ever get solved because now we're having the same problem in our restricted ATOG group. When we send an invite to join and the person replies to the email as instructed, nothing happens. However, if they read the fine print below the invite where it says "reply to this email or click accept the invitation"... if they click the hyperlink, then it works.

Put a space after the @ sign.? Alert recipient to remove it.? Good luck!

Re: Send Bounce Probe option missing

Yes, sorry, I didn't mean that, didn't make it quite clear.? I meant code would still need to be added in the part that decides whether to enable or disable the Action button, which would check the bounce status value for all members selected and enable the SendProbe option only if all who are checked are bouncing, otherwise disable it.? And that code would have to be executed every single time a member is checked or unchecked since we're not in the Bouncing-filtered list.

Cheers,
Christos

Not really; if a member is bouncing then it is flagged as such in the full unfiltered list.

They're only available to members when logged in, so maybe that's it.? Non-members will never see them, even if the group archives are set to public.

I can see where having it in that scenario could be convenient (for sending the probe to more than one member) as one wouldn't have to filter the list, but I guess it's not enabled/available there because it would require extra coding to check the status of each member selected.? He does however check the individual member's status when one clicks on a member, in any filter or no-filter setting, so when the member record screen comes up, if that member is bouncing the send probe button is also available, so one can still send a problem in that case albeit it's one at a time.

Hi there, I have the settings adjusted to SHOW email address in the web archive, and yet they still aren't visible in the web archive.? Is this a bug in the software?? Or am I doing something wrong?

Interesting; I work with "bouncing members" from a filtered list, and have never encountered the problem as reported.

However, just as an experiment I clicked the checkbox of a bouncing member from the unfiltered list and then found that Send Bounce Probe was not available as an Action.

Hi Nivard,
Sorry, it's me, app confusion. It's in my email program, not Groups.io. Not their fault!

Hi Lynda
?
Where are you seeing these avatars?
?
The only avatars I see (if you mean the home page photo) is on each groups home page, but not together in a column anywhere
?
Personal Avatars I can only see by visiting each members profile
?
So am just wondering were you are seeing a column of Avatars ?

Lynda -- You can upload a blank image (such as the one attached) as a Profile Photo. This will effectively remove your own "avatar."

There is no provision to modify the Profile Photo of others, nor can you eliminate the "placeholder" image displayed for those who haven't uploaded one.

Paul,

Just curious, what happens if you click on one of those bouncing members whom you cannot otherwise check then do Actions-Send Bounce Probe?? There is a Send Bounce Probe in that screen as well which when clicked will take you back to the bouncing screen with a green note on top of the page, "A message has been sent to the member containing a link to unbounce their account."?

Cheers,
Christos

That seems unlikely.

This is all very weird. Could it be that someone is both bouncing and NC? I didn't think that was possible, but we seem to be treading into new territory now.

A screenshot might be helpful but you'd have to obliterate all the email addresses.

Bruce, I did filter the member list (I ticked Boouncing) first (as I always do) just as you suggested, but that one group never offers me the option 'send a bounce probe'. I did however remove any of the red badged bouncing members before trying to send the bounce probe to the blue badged bouncers.

Yet this does not happen with my other group, filtered in similar fashion and the 'send bounce probe' option is always there in the dropdown menu under the 'Action' button. This is what made me suspicious that it might be an overlooked setting on the one group.

Not sure if there is anything else the might affect the accessibility of a send bounce probe option in that one group. Could it perhaps be a bug or glitch that might affect only that one group of mine?

If you've accidentally checked anyone who is not bouncing, the "Send Bounce Probe" option won't be available in the Actions menu. You may have thought you didn't do that, but you could have someone checked on a different page/screenful of members.

For this reason it's best to filter the member list so it displays only Bouncing members before making those selections. Try that and see if it helps.

Send Bounce Probe option missing

I am an owner on two unrelated GIO groups. ON one I can send blue badged bouncing members a bounce probe. On the other group that option is not available. They are both paid legacy groups.

Is there a setting to enable this feature? If so I've been unable to discover how to enable it on the one group.

Any advice will be welcomed.

TIA
