Re: KKT in Morse in footer #email

Bryan, same here. Plenty of Morse operators among us but only just been pointed out. I noticed a long time ago but had more important things at the time.
There's nothing I can see to change it.

I just verified that it can't be done.? As Frances said, using two accounts would allow it.

Frances, yes that's how it shows up.

Glen, Im not sure if that part of the footer is that editable.

I put them below my name in the previous email and both appear to have come out correctly on the GIO page. I don't get copies of my own emails so perhaps someone else can check these?

Best,

I only see this in the email summary on my phone - i.e. the bit that shows before you open the full email. (I am talking about individual messages, not digest or summary.)

And it looks like it only appears in my groups that have a footer, such as a link to Help, or a notice about privacy that is set up in Admin, Settings, Message Formatting.

Does this match your group?

A number of programming languages and systems, most notably SQL, support dash dash as the beginning of a code comment. Because I haven't seen Mark's code, I can only theorize that perhaps the double dash is commenting out some sort of style indicator.

Try putting a space on the line before the first dash and see if that changes the effect.

Any chance the user has two email addresses linked to your group? Two logins.

Does the user have an email alias? This shouldn't cause the problem, but would be useful for Mark of Admin to know if he must solve the problem.

Re: Adding Attachment to Member Notices

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Burt,

Depending on the type/contents of that PDF, another option is to incorporate the PDF contents inside your welcome notice.? If the PDF is fancy formatted text only it should be pretty easy.? If it contains an inline image here and there, while the editor doesn't seem to allow you to insert an attachment or an inline image (at least in my case clicking the final Add button does nothing, only Cancel works), you can still do the inline image part by going to the Source Code (<>) and adding the image manually using the <img src> tag, so you can still in essence replicate a mixed text & image PDF inside the notice, but if you start getting to a newsletter type format then it needs some work to get close to something that fancy, but it can still be done as the Source Editor also allows you to manually paste tables.?

Anyway, the inline-image caveat would be similar to what Bruce mentioned link-wise, the tag link to the image would need to be hosted somewhere publically accessible.

Cheers,
Christos

Burt -- Unfortunately, this is not possible, despite the editor icons being present. I asked for this same feature in 2018 (see?) but it hasn't been acted upon.?

There are work-arounds, but none of them particularly satisfactory. All involve hyperlinks.

Option 1:? Provide a hyperlink to a PDF document that you've previously uploaded to the Files area.

For Direct Add, Monthly Reminder and Welcome, this?kinda works, because by the time a person receives the notification he is already a member.?The downside is that such a link will mysteriously take him to the login page...once he logs in, then he can click on the link again and it will work the second time. Um...not exactly user-friendly.?

And unfortunately, it won't work at all for such things as Pending Subscription or Goodbye, as non-members are unable to access the group files area (there is no "public can view" permission for Files).

Option 2:? Link to a wiki entry and make your wiki publicly visible in group settings.

This works, but they don't have a document they can save to their desktop, and it could be that the information you want to provide isn't something you want to make public.

Option 3: Hyperlink to a file located on another web site or cloud storage of some kind (i.e.: some location that doesn't require this kind of authentication).

The negative of this is similar to #2, in that anyone who has ever received the member notice retains a back door to the document, even if they've subsequently been removed.

Okay, I hope that all made sense.

Bruce

Adding Attachment to Member Notices

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Our group ¡±AGEA" has a Premium subscription.

I¡¯m loving learning how to use?, prior to a mass upload of our members. Most features are pretty straight-forward to configure.

I¡¯ve tried to add a pdf attachment to a couple of the Member Notices, without success (several times).

I open the Member Notices editor for the notice in question, go into the text window, type as needed. ?

  • I click on the paper clip attachments button, Upload Attachments comes up.
  • Click on Choose Files, select the file (70 KB) and the file name is now shown.
  • I click ¡±Add¡±, which opens the Upload Attachments window again.
  • A thumbnail of the file shows with a magnifying glass in the lower right and a plus symbol lower left.?
  • The name is next to the Remove/Upload/Browse button row.?
  • I click on Upload. I am then returned to the Member Notices list, which shows an updated time for the notice and displays ¡±Your changes have been saved.¡± In a box at the top.
  • BUT, the attachment isn¡¯t shown on the notice when I access it again.
  • Testing a Direct Add of a member generates a Notice email, and no attachment is included.

I am using Safari 15.4 on a MacBook Pro running macOS Big Sur 11.6.5.

I also tried this using Firefox 98.0.2 (64 bit) on the same computer.

I¡¯ve tried editing all three Member Notices (Direct Add, Monthly Reminder and Welcome Message; all are ¡±active¡±).

Looked in the support forums, Manuals, FAQs without finding anything on point.?

Suggestions?

Thank you,
Burt Peterson

Re: email list names

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Yes, it is an "implied" alias, if no (sub)group name is specified as the prefix of the email address, GIO defaults to using the main group's address.

Same with other features (if there) in your group like Files for example, the naming convention changes after subgroups are created so it would now be but the previous naming convention used for non-subgroup'ed groups (/g/mesillavalleyshotgunsports/files) would still work and would redirect to the above.

Cheers,
Christos

See Help: /helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/deleting-a-group

You could have renamed the first group. If you have just created both groups, go ahead, if you wish. If you created your "wrong" group quite some time ago, check to see whether you have any legacy features you will miss. Go to Admin, Upgrade.

I'm just a group owner like yourself; and all I know is that groups.io currently strips the <video> tag.?

You cannot insert video, but you can attach one, if it's small enough (< 100MB). Just click the Add Attachments "paperclip" icon on the online message editor.

Video attachments tend to be large and will rapidly use up your group quota. You might find it preferable to upload the video to cloud storage (Google Drive, iCloud?or whatever) and provide a link instead.

Bruce
