If you don't mind learning more syntax, you might be able to do what you want using Markdown as your editor.? You can set it in your account preferences, /account?page=prefs.? I'm not familiar with it, but it does offer 'shortcuts' to formatting.? There are a few messages on the beta group using the search term markdown.? A little more info at (I think this is the one used on groups.io)

You can find info on Lena's Perl script at?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/22251?

I remain surprised that there aren't fully working export/import tools for managing messages with meta-data, given the number of different customers managing so many groups - surely this must come up a lot.
Yes, it does. However...

There is potential for misuse of such tools to circumvent groups.io's pricing structure. Picture a scenario we all collaborated to buy an Enterprise group (with its own domain) and house everyone's groups as unlimited subgroups of that. The ability to move messages between groups/subgroups would only facilitate this kind of abuse.

There's also the potential for breach of trust. Imagine posting something to what you thought was a private group (Alcoholics Anonymous or whatever) only to have someone later move all your messages to a different one that was public.

I can't speak for Mr Fletcher; but if it was me, I would be very hesitant to go there.

Bruce

Jack -- I have no experience with screen readers so cannot really address the accessibility issues. I will say that the wiki editor is identical to the online (html) message editor. If you can negotiate the menu system for the online editor and create html messages then you should have little problem creating wiki pages.

As with the message editor, there is also a "source code" mode within the Advanced toolbar that will allow you to type in html directly, if that's what you want to do.

The only issue you might run into is creating (and maintaining) some kind of index. There's a rudimentary menu of available pages (under the Pages drop-down at the bottom of each wiki screen), but all it shows are the names of the pages that have been created. That's not nearly as user-friendly as having an actual index.

I really don't know if this helps. I hope so!

Bruce

Wiki Accessibility

Jack Heim

Hi, I manage several groups for a non-profit. All the groups I manage are for people who are blind or visually impaired and I am blind myself. The non-profit is considering buying a Premium or Enterprise membership in order to have access to the wiki feature. I can't seem to find any good tutorials on using the wiki. Maybe groups.io consideres it self-explanatory but it's not if you're blind. I cannot recommend paying for a membership if I myself can't figure out how to use the wiki. I install and maintain? the wiki at my regular job using mediawiki. So I'm not technically naive.

Is there a way to maintain groups.io wiki pages in a text file? Can I get into a mode on a? groups.io wiki where I can type in text markup codes? You know, like in mediawiki, if you type three equals signs, it means H3. A pound sign means a numbered list item.

Any accessibility ideas at all would be welcome.

Re: Move messages from main to subgroup #subgroup

Thank you Bruce, Bryan and Duane.

I will search for Lena's script and ponder this. Obviously losing the poster and date message context is a loss, so I will have to balance this against the pain of managing main as a faked-subgroup.

I remain surprised that there aren't fully working export/import tools for managing messages with meta-data, given the number of different customers managing so many groups - surely this must come up a lot.

Thanks again

I think that can only be done if the group you are moving from is a 'stand alone' group.? See ? You might contact support with details of your specific situation for verification.

Re: Move messages from main to subgroup #subgroup

I used Lena¡¯s script recently to move subgroup messages into a parent group. I assume it would work the other way around. But you¡¯re not technically ¡°moving¡± them. They¡¯re being re-posted, so you lose the original date stamp and member ID. This info is added into the message content, though. If you can live with that caveat it does work. It will also take quite a while if you have a large number of messages due to throttling by Groups.IO system on rate of messages being posted by one account.?

The sig line is not in their group Profile. It's on their Subscription page. Make sure they check the boxes, too.

Where are we in 2022? My need here is to convert my main group completely into a subgroup for more consistent management, keeping the main as just a membership umbrella for different subgroups. My main is already functioning as a subgroup, where only a subset of membership posts/receives, but I have to manually control individual post/receive attributes to accomplish this. I have proper subgroups for other subsets, but I did not expect this issue when first setting up the initial group. I don't want to lose all the history if I move all the relevant members to a new subgroup and so I want to move all the messages. Any hope? Thanks.

I am assuming that you can see the poll in your home screen and you have created a poll.
Members must log in to their Groups.io accounts to vote in polls. Members cannot participate in polls by email.

Can't get list of groups

In our GMF Wiki, it says "There's an easy way to get a list of which groups an email address (account) is subscribed to.? Send an email to a nonexistent group. It will bounce with a 510 error that includes a list of all groups that address belongs to."? In trying to help a member of one of my groups, I tried this and it doesn't include a list of groups in the bounce message.? I'm sure I've done this before and it worked.? If others are seeing the same thing, I'll post a #bug on beta.

Thanks,

No, a notification is not sent to anyone when their status changes.
