As far as I know, there is no way to sign up WITH an NNTP server.

These are email mailing lists, not Usenet newsgroups.

It may be possible to gate them from mail to news and vice versa (a
GoogleGroups does), but I don't know of anyone who does so.

The only ways to sign up are with email, with an e-mail reader, or with a web
browser by going to the web site.

If I edit permissions on the individual table (table properties) so that the only thing a member can do is view the table, it does stop editing except by moderators and table owner.

Thanks for looking into this Frances. Great work. Using a test membership in the group I own (a test membership with member-only status) I found the same. I could edit the table -- change the name, edit the description -- and edit/add rows.

Then using my owner's account I went to the page for the Database selected and opened the Edit Table Properties box at the top left of the page.? I discovered the "Edit Table," "Add Rows" and "Edit Rows" were all set to "Members."? (Remember, in "Settings," the Database is set to "Members can view, moderators can create tables.") I then changed the settings to the most restrictive: I changed the "Edit Table" and "Add Rows" to "Moderator and Table Owner,"? I set "Edit Rows" to "Moderator, Table Owner and the Row Owner." After saving the "update" I revisited with my member-only account. Then there was only one option and that was to export the table in JSON format or CSV format.

I agree, IF this is the way it is supposed to work then the Owner's Manual needs to be revised accordingly.

As Duane said, you really do need to read the GMF wiki entry previously cited.

The last change in pricing structure happened a year ago. And at each and every change, existing groups have been .

It's these grandfathered/legacy groups that provide an alternative access to features no longer available for new Basic groups.

In summary, there is no need to panic.

This is a common complaint for groups at all levels, and I believe many of us would like to see tools of this kind become available to us.

One list I joined encouraged storage of images by message instead of photo Album creation.? They now have 1GB of e-male images, cannot store in photo albums, and cannot do a bulk delete of old e-mail images.?

There is a "Storage Limit Reached" setting that will automatically delete old attachments to get this group back under quota.?/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/customizing-group-settings/message-policy-settings?

Worse the e-mail photo albums contain multiples of images in replies to the first message.? While images in messages
can be prevented in settings as well as size; mistakes made cannot be later corrected.? How about a one time only resize of the e-mail photo album image to a smaller size, unlimited resized to 488 pixels could save some legacy lists.

This and other suggestions need to be posted to?. Groups.io management does not monitor GMF.?

Last year if upgraded, a Basic legacy list of nearly 2000 subscribers to Premium before a price increase would cost nearly $900,? It was clear that my list had become a major free loader getting a free service valued at current pricing at nearly $900.? we were only using 25% of the 1 GB image capacity.? The upgrade had no benefit to subscribers;?Long term it may make groups.io a litter stronger financially by one less free loader (etc).

I believe it's generally understood that the pricing structure implemented on August 24, 2020 may have created an underground economy in legacy-enabled Basic groups. Mark is no fool and I'm sure he figured all of that in when he made the change.?

I belong to a similar size list that did not control message images and now can no longer store in personal photo albums.? Upgrade to $900/a year premium status is a non-starter,
but repurposing an idle list would allow creation of a shadow list with image size and storage limitations, in effect a new start for free.

Click the link that says "View this manual as a single page."

You can then use your browser's normal "find" function to search of relevant information. In most browsers I've used, Ctrl-F will bring that up.

If you have groups that you created a few years ago, you might consider repurposing them - changing the name, etc.

Thanks for the information Duane. I will put in a bug report on Beta.

An activity search for my group only shows one row modified -the one I deleted that was a dead end. I can't find anything else. I tried searching with multiple keywords but came up empty. I was especially hoping to find the date when the database entry was first put in. I'm sure the notation "imported from Yahoo" means it was originally uploaded back when we were still a Yahoo group. That being the case, it doesn't seem too surprising there is no record in the activity log.
