Re: No email bouncers

Richard,

In one of my groups I have about 220 bouncers who all have the 'no
email' option.

This seems rather odd to me. If they don't have posts delivered via
email at all, what does it mean for them to be bouncing?
The bounce handling in Groups.io covers more than just message posts. It also covers Welcome and other sorts of notices and email from the system (as well as messages in groups other than yours!).

If you open the membership page for one of those members (click on the member's row in the table, anywhere but the checkbox) then select the "Email Delivery History" tab it may tell you which message, and why it bounced.

Thanks Shal,

?

Looking at I see lots of bounced messages on January twenty ninth , for about ten hours beginning at 2am. Only that day, never seen those before. Maybe the system was swamped by spam? Shutdown by admins for maintenance?

?

I do have PGOffline backups up through four days ago, and since then in an Outlook client, so all is not lost.

Scott,

Nothing distributed from Yahoo Groups since 8:14pm CST on 1-29-2018 as far as I can tell.

Yesterday a member of YGMF complained that no email was going through her groups, but that posting via the site still worked. I replied by email, received the pending notice by email, and approved by email and that all worked. However, there's been no activity since. So...

Hm... A test post by email hasn't come through yet, but it is only a few minutes so far.

Notably the web interface seems to be responding much more quickly than had been the case.

Norman,

This members claims she's been added (to MediaPro) four times. I
haven't added her.
The group's Activity log should have something to say about this. Click on the Moderator Activity tab and look for any relevant actions around the time of that forwarded message. If the person was added by a moderator of your group there should be an entry that says so.

Nor have I seen any of her four requests to be removed.

Not that I'm aware of.? That's the whole reason for using a group site.? Otherwise you could just use groups set up within an email client.

Re: Second fail in YahooGroups

Paul,

I posted to Y!GMF yesterday & it never got approved, I'm guessing it never made it to the approval stage.

Correct. Neither MODERATE email nor anything in the pending list at Y!GMF.

Ditto for a post by web I did a while ago on my test group.

Other than that, and a calendar that doesn't show any events, my Y!Group pages seem to be loading quickly and functioning. So that's something. Hope still for PG Offline users, and hope for the transfer agent assuming Mark resumes the process and assuming one can somehow get the transfer agent into the group and promoted.

In days of old when email processing was interrupted the backlog of messages would come through in a rush as soon as someone found and fixed the bottleneck. We can only hope that happens this time.

Hi Shal,

I wish Verizon/Yahoo would quit "Fixing" things, it is difficult to handle the rejection,

Re: Increase my chance of "Files" transfer success? #transfer

Hi Ken,
Yes, I've downloaded 5 groups using PG Offline. It took some effort to get all of the files because I had to go back and check to see what I missed because of Verizon/Yahoo being so inconsistent when opening the files. When I go to Files to look, I often have to double click the File to get it to open or even to see the files. I'm sure PG Offline has the difficulty. Messages take time because Verizon/Yahoo will kick you out for a few hours. I found that a way around this is to use a VPN and change your IP address. Still took a couple of days to get a group the messages from a group with 40,000+.

Still, I'm glad I did this because Verizon/Yahoo is very bad. I've approved messages that never get emailed to the members and I've posted messages to one of the groups that never show up on the group list. People applying for membership don't get on the list and if they do, the owners don't get notified.

In the end, PG Offline has been well worth the price. I urge you to not delay, it would not surprise me to find Verizon/Yahoo has crashed

Thank you Shal... I need to read more carefully. <:-|

Tim,

Ken, thanks, but no, I used the groups.io /_INVITE_/ function - it has
nothing to do with YG.
There's your problem.

You're supposed to Invite the transfer agent to your Y!Group. It doesn't need to be a member of your Groups.io group. But it does need moderator privilege in your Y!Group.

Handling archives

Hi there,

I own a group that does not require the use of an archive.? We use the group to each others email clients, which in turn, allow individual users to save posts or threads as they see fit.? Is there a way to turn the archive facility off?

Thanks,

Thanks for the follow-up.

I will reinforce the message with Mark with the understanding that there are other priorities at the moment.

As far as our group is concerned, I would like for regular subscribers to be able to edit and close a chat that they have opened, should they be given the permission to do so. (I would prefer that deleting be under moderator/owner’s ?control, but since subscribers can delete their posts, the same would presumably apply to chats).

Found the post on Beta.

Mark got back to me on this... as you can image he's rather crunched. Here's how it works:
The statement about who can OPEN chats is correct - it is only opening a chat.
In order for a moderator to be able to perform any other management functions on a chat that has been opened, that moderator must also have been given "Edit Archives" permission. If that is granted, then a chat may be closed, reopened or deleted. Otherwise, an owner must manage an open chat.

Mark did also include in his note back to me that "perhaps I should change this"....
I replied that I believed that it would be a good and welcomed change. In many groups chats serve entirely different purposes than email posts. Many groups do not allow editing of archives for reasons ranging from courtesy to legal. Having to allow that editing in order for a moderator to manage a chat is not something that works in many groups.

I think - hope - that Mark sees this (he was very open in our posts) - but some support about it might be helpful (once he's out from under the Yahoo mess, which could be a while...). There is a post in Beta about it...

Re: Second fail in YahooGroups

Scott, so far as I can tell, nothing from Yahoo Groups is being distributed via Email, nor posted to a Groups webpage of Conversations.? For some normally quite busy groups, since even earlier than 8pm CST yesterday.?

I don't think it's anything to do with you notifying about replacements at Groups.Io.? Over the weekend, the escalating, widening errors and failures and nonsense that I was seeing mirrored *exactly *the pattern which immediately preceded each of the last two major outages.? It makes me worried about trying to execute a transfer to Groups.io when so many aspects of any YG are consistently inaccessible.

Early yesterday I alerted Verizon/Oath/Pizza Hut/Toys R Us Concierge Care about the return of that pattern of escalating, widening errors and failures...? and later got a reply saying oh no, it's all good, they'd already fixed those problems last week - and I should try clearing out my cache.

No sooner had I read that reply this morning then I noticed Groups is once again "tits up."?

Next, "the engineers" will be suggesting I reboot my modem, or upgrade to Windows '95.? -simon
