? Hello - I am a new owner of 2 groups.

???? I signed up for the first month - for a Premium membership for $20 to be downgraded for free at the end of that month.

??? I do want to continue - BUT!?? at a $20 / month membership.

????? The system has charged me for a full year, $220.
????? I tried to cancel it immediately.? it was not possible.
??? this was yesterday.

????????? I sent 6 emails to Support asking for help with this, asking that they cancel the yearly membership - which I did not sign for and sign me up for the monthly premium -? and have not received any reply.

?????? Their method to deal with the subscription is very poorly programmed.

???????? can anyone help me with this?

??????????? thank you very much.

Unfortunately, we now know that Mark has made a change, so you may not be able to get back to 'normal' on your laptop unless he makes further changes -

Re: Send-only subgroup?

Appreciate the help Duane and Bruce!
?
To summarize:
? ?I manually added specific members to our subgroup (our organization's planning committee).
?
In the settings for the subgroup:
? ?Privacy -> Visibility -> "Group not listed in parent group, messages viewable by subgroup only"
? ?Spam Control -> "Restricted Membership" [ON]
? ?Message Policies -> "Allow Nonmembers to post" [ON]
?

Make sure to make the subgroup message archive private, too (Privacy > Visibility > "...messages viewable to subgroup members only").

There was a sometimes heated discussion about that on the beta group awhile back.? I think Mark decided the current mechanism was a good compromise of the sides.? The original owner (founder) can maintain ultimate control, but give moderators all the permissions so they can do everything except promote themselves to owner, demote an owner, and delete group.? They can promote others to the same moderator level as themselves, so the group should be able to continue indefinitely.? There shouldn't even need to be a co-owner unless the group needs to be deleted at some point.

Ken --?Currently, the only reliable way to vet prospective members before providing access to group emails is to use the Restricted method of Spam Control. You could set your group's Default Sub Settings to Daily Summary or a Digest, but there's nothing to keep a new person (with the wherewithal to do so) from changing it to Individual Emails.

Re: How to stop address harvesting

We did BAN the member, but the damage was done.

?

I wonder is there a way to set a new member to "NO EMAIL" and not grant that user the ability to change the setting until the group has an idea if they are suitable? That way they wouldn't be able to harvest e-mail addresses.

I suspect this is a result of the programming that Mark has been changing/updating to work with the new version of the app he's working on.? I think it should be reported as a #bug on beta as he probably overlooked it.

BTW, for Barry, I think most 15" screens are no more than 1024 pixels wide, so that would explain your situation.

Re: how do I get rid of the icons on the bottom?

Oh, that was easier than I thought. Didn't realize it was just a matter of resizing the window.
Don't know how it changed that way. Probably, I hit the wrong keys while I was typing away.
Thank you, Bruce.

Peter -- Which menu system is displayed depends only on the viewport width in pixels.

Click the Restore Down icon on your desktop browser, and you can change between the two menu systems by simply resizing the window.

It would also be indexed by Google etc. if it were public.

?If I set the max attachment size to zero as Duane has done with some of his groups, then every single group member would be forced to create a groups.io login in order to see their attachments. I think I'd get a lot of resistance if I did that.

They can just click on Email me a link to log in. It is a rolling renewal for 30 days each time they visit the group page. So if they visit within 30 days, they don't have to do anything.

Question: I know that users can put more restrictive attachment size on their subscription. What if you had larger and then suggested to those with limited band width to change their own preference? And can the individual set their own attachment size as larger than the group setting?

Done, see previous message. I wonder if it is somehow related to the fact that I accessed groups,io from my
cell phone yesterday, and the view did not change back to computer.

Peter Cook wrote:
Barry, a screenshot might be helpful in clarifying your question. Are you saying that the Home, Guidelines, Subscription, Messages, etc. links that normally appear on the left side of the GIO group web page aren't visible?

Barry is right.
There has been a major unexpected (and unwanted) change in the general group display (sorry, don't know if this is the right term for it), but not in all groups.
In one of my group the menu now shows at the bottom of the page with 4 large icons, one of which is a dropdown menu. The topics view takes up all the space on the screen.
Other groups, such as GMF, are not affected by the change, apparently, and the menu is shown on the left and everything is as usual.
The strange thing is that sometimes my group goes back to normal view.
I attach a screenshot.

Re: How to change the max attachment size setting for the entire group?

Hello Bruce,
? ?Thanks for your comments.

? ?I don't want the message archive to be public unless I'm misunderstanding how things work since I'm new to Groups.io.? I only want people who are group members to be able to see the messages sent by my group members.? I don't want random people who just logged into Groups.io to be able to see my group and view all its messages.

? ?My problem is that the vast majority of my group members do not directly access the Groups.io website.? They just access it indirectly via their email, sending and replying to [email protected].? If they click on an attachment and are confronted with a request to login to groups.io, they are confused and frustrated.? They aren't ready to learn about Groups.io.? Their mental model is a listserv.? Over time I will educate people about the extra benefits of Groups.io, but I don't want to force them to create a login now in order to see message attachments.

? ? If I set the max attachment size to zero as Duane has done with some of his groups, then every single group member would be forced to create a groups.io login in order to see their attachments. I think I'd get a lot of resistance if I did that.

? ? I don't think my group has many people with tight data limits.? I've gotten no complaints about that.? The complaints I have received are from people who have messages returned because the total attachment size is greater than 25MB.? I've had to explain to them that it was Gmail or AOL or Yahoo that imposed that limit, not Groups.io.

? ? What I would prefer is for Groups.io to work like Gmail -- attachments greater than my 5MB limit would be replaced by publically accessible links not requiring a Groups.io login.? The links could expire in 1 month so storage could be recycled.
