Do messages count

Hi

Just had my Yapoo group transferred here -- big THANKS to MARK and the transfer team.?

Prior to moving Yapoo did not allow us to delete or save photos, so within two days here my group cleaned out their past photos and are ready to start over.

My concern is whether or not messages count towards our space.? Does anyone know?? Do I need to be concerned about deleting messages each week?

Unlike other groups I've joined here on this platform we're chatty.? We are a small but happy and friendly group sharing our love of card making and giving, so we chat!

If anyone knows, please respond.??

Big Thanks in advance.

Re: Question about Member Notices - Note to Member

Would this be a generic message that could be sent to any member you choose?

Thanks for the question. This is used to send canned messages to members easily.? When you open a member's page, there is a Send Message button at the bottom.??
On the Send Message page, there is a drop down box to select what message to send.? The default is a blank message "--Notices--".? But if you create a "Note to Member", it (they if you setup more than one) will show up there (at bottom above the BCC) and you can select which one to use, like a template of pre-filled in text in the subject and body.? So you could store a note explaining how a user can set their password - Send Message, select the Note, click send, boom! - you're done!?
Looks like you can create any number of notes, each with their own subject/body.

Re: Question about Member Notices - Note to Member

Lily,
As a follow on to my prior comment, the Active Message check box only applies to Member Notices that are automatically sent by groups.io in response to certain events.? So the Welcome notice sent by groups.io has this setting.? This allows you to have, for example, a draft Welcome notice or perhaps different Welcome notices and select which one is the Active one that groups.io is to use when a member joins.
The Note to Member notice is only sent manually by a mod/owner so there is no need for the Active Message flag (they are all 'Active' and available to be used by default).??
Toby

PS - I keep discovering more clever features of groups.io.. :)

Set to no emails from members in Yahoo Groups?

Hello again,

The leadership of my recently transferred group would like to keep the Yahoo Groups open because that is the main way people find us. Does anyone know if there is a way to set the group to no messages, so that it is really just there as a calling card, so to speak.

Thanks for all your help,
Tiffany

Re: Question about Member Notices - Note to Member

Thanks, Don, for the instructions.
I am actually asking how to use this type of notice selection "Note to Member". It's described as "Message sent to a member". There's no setting for when or who. I did set up one for testing: the message was saved, but nothing happened. There's no "Active Message" box to click.

Thanks.

Re: Making other members moderators/owners

Perfect!? Thanks Duane,

Re: Making other members moderators/owners

When there are pending members, the site assumes that you'll want to see those first, so takes you to that page when you click Members under the Admin menu. On that page, it will show "Pending Approval" in the drop down box at the upper left. You can select "Members" there to see all of them. If there are no Pending members, you'll go to the Members page by default. Once there, select the member that you want to give additional privileges to. On their page, you can select the Role you want them to have. If you select Moderator, additional items will be shown for you to select from. Save any changes and you (and they) should be set.

Making other members moderators/owners

Hi all,

My group has been successfully transferred, yay! Looks like everything is in tact, all members messages, etc. So grateful for this.

So I'm trying to figure out how to make some of my members moderators and/or co-owners. I'm sure it is simple, but I'm not seeing it. Also, when I go to the Admin drop down menu and click on "members" all I see is one pending member. There isn't a list for all the members in the group. I know I can see the members in the "directory" that everyone can view, it just seems like I should see them there too.

Thanks for help!

Re: Data protection

Ah, the dreaded GDPR. I assume that Mark, like Yahoogroups, Google and
everybody else in or out of Europe will store our data under the
provisions of GDPR. And presumably some statement in the terms and
conditions to state that they do.

The implications of GDPR for small clubs and societies is still not
that clear, even though May is not long to go (and I could mean May as
in our PM..). Consent may mean just a box on the join form that one has
to tick ('I have read the terms and conditions') or it may demand
something else like an email reply. Who knows, I suspect life will
carry on just as it has done since the computer was invented.

implied consent (with an opt out for such an action) may not be legal.

How have other list managers dealt with this issue?

Re: What action is required by members after the transfer?

Jim,

Does the green banner you refer to mention the short time scale?
No, it does not. What I quoted is all it says.

If not perhaps I should raise that on beta? It seems essential for
some people.
I think that's a very good idea.

In fact, the page is rather blank. Maybe it should cite the Subject line, and To & From addresses of the sent message to help the member identify it. And suggest that the member check their Spam folder if it is not in their Inbox. It could even suggest white-listing the From address.

See what you think. Go to the site, log out if you're logged in. Click Log In near the upper right, and click the button. It won't harm anything. That will also give you an opportunity to review the email that is sent.

Re: 0 files were transferred

I will download them and upload to the group, which brings
up another question. Is it possible to somehow keep the
original uploaders name as the person that uploaded the
file? Tried it with one and it put my ID as Uploaded By.

Pamela
This was a request in beta six months ago. ()

After my groups were transferred it became apparent there were a number of photos that were way larger than they should be. I would like to be able to resample them down in size without changing ownership. The Phots and Files areas both need to be reorganized as well, but there's no way for an owner or moderator to do that without assuming ownership of the file in question. I see this as a housekeeping issue, but it doesn't seem to be important enough to generate much response from others.

Re: What action is required by members after the transfer?

Carol,

Sorry for lack of quote, haven¡¯t seen how to do that yet in groups.io
There are two ways: select the text you wish to quote before clicking Reply, or click the "Quote Whole Post" button after clicking Reply.

I am confused on what the members expect to see.
After everything has been copied each will receive a welcome notice from Groups.io. It includes a link to the group's site and an opt-out in case they don't want to be in the new group.

If you set up a "Welcome" notice on the Member Notices tab of your group's Settings page they will receive that also.

Is there a wiki I am missing?
There's GMF's. It isn't comprehensive but we are trying to supplement what's available on the official help page.

Yes, Member Notices. Select Pending Subscriptions from the Notice Type drop down box, then check Active Message box. Below the check box write your message, then click on Update Notice.

Question about Member Notices - Note to Member

Hi,
How do I use this type of notice under "Member Notices" > "Note to Member" ? I can edit the name, subject and the message. How do I actually configure it to send out? Can I schedule it to send out monthly?

Thank you.
Lily

Re: Is there a way to send an Inquiry type email before accepting new members in Groups.io?

That could work.?It is slow, but you can read the responses and see if it is?acceptable. I remember I had to answer about 10-15 questions before joining one group.?It was nuts, but it worked for the mods.

Take care

Wo! What happened, that email looks like a mess. Anyway, to answer the poster's question if there is no way, maybe suggest this to the beta team.

Take care and be blessed.

There is a setting you can try at Amin/settings/, and at the top of the page there is a setting for Member Notices. Check that out. I set up a Pending Subscriptions, but I¡¯m not sure how it¡¯s working. If I don¡¯t the who the person is that trying to join, then I send them an email also. That was normal operating procedure at Y, so I¡¯m trying to do it at Groups.io
