Re: Direct Add to subgroup

Karin,

Can I add him directly to a subgroup without requiring an invite to
the main group being sent?
For a single person you can go to the Subgroups page in your /primary/ groups Admin pages, find or search for him in that list, then use the checkboxes to assign which subgroup(s) you want him to be in.

For multiple addresses you can use Direct Add from the /primary/ group: it will have checkboxes for what subgroup(s) to add the list of addresses to. This works fine even if one or more is already a member of the primary group - it just gives you a harmless notification that they were already a member of the Primary group.

Unless they resend it via email with a correct tag.? That would leave the original in the Draft queue, but those are deleted after 2 weeks.

Margo -- I'm seeing all photos as having the taken date of 1969-12-3169, no matter when they were uploaded.

I don't know if this is a default for a photo that has no such metadata, or what. Definitely peculiar, as it's not even a valid date.

Does this bug go here, Beta, or where?
All bugs should be with a #bug hashtag.

The date 12/31/1969 is very suspicious to me, it is the day before the . Briefly, all UNIX machines and many others do not store dates internally as something like "12/31/69" but rather as an integer representing the number of seconds since some arbitrary point in time.? The integer is then converted on demand into whatever format the user desires. For UNIX machines, that arbitrary date is midnight UTC on 1/1/1970, which is why I think that this date is particularly interesting, as if someone fed -1 to a date integer.

Best,

Glenn

Re: #owner #owner

We had a case where one of our three owners had to be removed for the good of our mission and the survival of the group.
He literally went off the rails, interrogating new applicants as if they were potential foreign spies.
When we quizzed him about why, he shouted at us in 64 point type with a vocabulary I haven't heard since the iceman delivered a block to my Grandma.
He truly went nuts, continuing to? rant and rave even though we were not responding.

If we had to get his approval to delete/demote him we could not possibly have gotten it.

If you wish to cause a catastrophe, require simultaneous approval of all owners.? Otherwise, forget it because it will become an obstacle when you least need a boulder in your way.

For web savvy members, no problem, agreed. But a lot of my members are not.

So I think the remedy I stumble on to works best for us. Let them title and send no hash, then pick a hash when the symptom prompt makes it brain dead easy to do ?

That is great! I have never tested or used compulsory hashtags. I don't see it in the Help either. I learned something today. Thanks.

BTW, I split off this discussion into its own thread and added a hashtag.

Thanks, Chris. While I was waiting i found another path for my members. ?

Compose your note in email, title it (Happy New Year), NO hash. The system sends a note right back enclosing the hashtag menu and prompting a pick.

End result: It says Happy New Year, just as you wished. And the note gets filed under the appropriate hashtag ¡ª in this example #Announcements

In the subject line type: Subject #hashtag

Do not type any punctuation after the hashtag and discourage members from typing #hashtag then Subject.

Easy online, of course, to pick from the list of hashtags after they have typed in the topic / subject.

I am not sure whether this answers your question or not.

I'd guess it was probably something Google did, they have a habit of changing things.? I've gone into my account and removed ALL of the categories, so everything? (except spam) just shows up in my inbox.? If I wanted to do some sorting, I'd do it in Thunderbird.

Re: #owner #owner

Hi Bruce,

?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yes, they do bring up "what if" issues, but those issues are issues today.

Our group has four co-owners who come together to agree on all of our owner decisions. That same formula or a majority formula could be automatically implemented. I am part of a small group and would rely on your knowledge of the complexities of doing this on a global level in forwarding this as a suggestion.

If there are multiple owners of a group it would seem logical that the deletion of the group would require all of the owners to agree on the group deletion. I would also suggest that the only owner a single owner can delete is themself.

Ken -- You could propose this as a #suggestion in the beta group, but please carefully consider all the "what if" scenarios first. For example, one Owner could also downgrade (not delete) all the other Owners and then delete the group. So to implement something like this, you would also have to remove the co-Owner downgrade privilege.

And then, "what if" one of the Owners dies, leaving his ownership behind? You can never remove his subscription, downgrade him, or delete the group, no matter what?

It may be a "pain", but an owner should not be automatically be removed for a "SPAM" report. A warning message would seem to be more appropriate than the possible locking a group due to a lack of ownership.

The last remaining Owner is never removed for a spam report.

Re: Moderator not receiving messages

Friends,
? ? ?After all your help, I found the solution to the problem.? I am using Gmail.? Gmail provides for emails to be displayed under one of several settings.? ?My settings are Primary, Social, Promotions and Forum.? The posts requesting?my action as moderator go to the "Primary", After I approve, the resulting posts go to "Forum."
? ? ?On 20 December for some unknown reason, the posts requiring moderator action shifted to "Social." I don't think that it was any action I?took that caused the shift, but it happened.? I found it by going through the "All Mail" listing, finding the missing posts and redirecting them from "Social" to "Primary"
? ? ?I hope that this explanation helps some other Moderators if they face a similar problem.

Nothing has changed on the GIO end of it.? Have you checked your subscription to see if you're bouncing?? If not, your email provider may be black holing the messages.? No need for web/app if you don't have your browser set for notifications or the app installed on a phone/tablet.

You can use the footers in emails from your group to reply or to start a new thread. The exact options depends on the person's own subscription to the group.
See?/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/additional-information/understanding-message-footers?single=true
and

Just look at the footer to this email.

And of course, you can just email as usual, with a proper subject.

You say "category". Do you mean hashtags? You can require them if you wish.?

Group hashtag settings are in the Message Policies panel on the group¡¯s Settings page. These settings are:

Hashtags Required: Specifies whether messages must have at least one hashtag.
Hashtag Permissions: Controls whether group members can create new hashtags by adding them to message subject lines.
