I think it very much depends on the group and individual choice

This depends a lot on the culture of the group. Believe you me, we have plenty of long discussions in my groups and people only go to the website for files and the like. Dragging my users into web forum posting would be extremely counterproductive and I can imagine groups for which the same is true of email. Best, Glenn |

Carla,
Likewise for our group, wish it was MORE forum based to draw in more discussions and longer involvement with the community in the group.? The way GroupsIO is functioning, email is the primary, yet it holds keys to draw members to the website to interact IF the messages or topics lend themselves to allow for it to happen. Example, my group is about Compact Tractors.? How do I the community at this time of the interact.? Easy, we talk about a common device to really help in starting the engines in cold weather.? To us, it's a thermostart device.? In the discussions, I posted what the device is, references to the FILES section on it's uses and benefits for the engine, cold starting and proper care.? About 1/2 the people didn't even know the device was there.? About 30 messages latter, we did a rabbit trail to oil pan heaters, radiator coolant heaters and even infrared heaters to keep the tractors pre-heated an hour before use. So, have your content on the WEBSITE here on GroupsIO.? OR, if you are a NEWER group, sign up with BOX Storage to store FILES and PHOTOS for FREE.? Then make a LOCKED TOPIC that is PINNED at the top of the messages with LINKS to the BOX Storage to refer your group community to review.? For us, we have a TRACTOR OF THE MONTH to share with the community.? In our groups, allow a person to create topics of interaction.? Back on Yahoo Groups, our group was on life-support.? At best, 8 posts a month near the end.? As we migrated over to GroupsIO, getting the community stirred up in a positive and encouraging way has put posting well over 100+ per month.? This in turn has garnished added members as well.? The 5 compact tractor forums out there are loosing members to participate, it takes a person to keep things interactively going. This is how I'm getting people to the GroupsIO website as a forum vs. the tag-u-r-it emails. BMaverick |

Andy,
I'm seeing a new layout to the membership list where the details nowI'm seeing it too. Firefox on Win10. I don't know if it was planned, but if it was I'll bet it is an attempted bugfix for the fact that the badges used to be hidden when the column was too narrow to show them. It hasn't fixed the same problem with the Email column, apparently. Shal -- Help: /helpcenter More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

If you are new (or newish) to Groups.io as an owner, you should check out the help for new group owners. And it is arranged in steps that walks you through the setup procedures. You can quickly check your group features by going to Admin, Upgrade. Legacy Enabled indicates a feature that is not available to new free groups, but is available to your group. Frances ? |

On one hand, it¡¯s already recognized that members can select a ¡°no email¡± or ¡°special notices only¡± option, but group owners can¡¯t do that for the group.
But something I didn¡¯t realize until after a hoard of subscribers joined up is that the group default email delivery can be set to ¡°Daily Summary¡±. ?For subscribers who don¡¯t change their settings, they will click on topic/subject which will take them to the web based version. ?It acts like a topic based feed. ? If the owner does choose this default email setting, individual subscribers can still change their own setting to whichever they prefer. ? Patti in AZ |

Also check your account setting for your Editor Preference on /account?page=prefs? The other icons won't show up if you've chosen Plain Text or Markdown.I edited my Preferences and chose HTML (I was in Plain Text). At last, I can see all icons, including the paperclip! Thank you, Bruce and Duane. Just one more silly question: where do attachments go? My group is set to Delete old attachments,? but I'd rather check and delete them myself. Regards, Marina |

Re: How to send a message with an attachment

I don't see any formatting bar in my message box. Maybe because my group is set to Normalize HTML Emails?
So there is no paperclip icon (that's what I meant by "link" icon, sorry for my imperfect English). I double checked under Settings > Message Formatting > Attachments are actually set to Moderated. So they should be allowed. Where did I go wrong? Marina |

In my moderators' group (I'm the owner), attachments are set to moderated, umlimited size.
I wish to reply to one of my own messages, but can't find a way to add an attachment to the reply. I only see the "quote message" icon, but not the link icon. How can I add an attachment? Thank you, Marina |
Re: Additional Info Strange Happening
Hi Jannis, have her send her old email address and email me a login link, if she doesn't already use the website. If she already uses the website, then have her go into her account and change her address that way. It will give her an option to merge accounts if she has another account created with the new email address.
