Re: Data protection
I think there's a significant difference here between someone joining groups.io
direct and giving their own information, and someone being transferred automatically from Yahoo groups or elsewhere. The latter could possibly be problematic under GDPR, and may lead Yahoo to prevent it to protect themselves. I'll check the wording when I get a few minutes (I've got a PDF copy, but it's a big document), but I think the main problem would be theirs for passing on personal details without prior permission. Is The Subscription Link Editable?
Mark Bielecki
My second question for the day about my new group:
The group is publicly listed by requires moderator approval to join. When a prospective subscriber/member clicks on the?"+ Apply For Membership In This Group" link the subscription page that pops up requests the prospective member's email address (see below). Because joining this group requires that the prospective subscriber/member meets certain eligibility requirements is it possible to edit that page to add a couple of qualifiers (such as "Are you a member of the XYZ profession or industry" or "Who referred you to this group") so as to reduce the necessity of multiple back and forth emails for prospective subscribers/members whose email addresses we don't recognize as belonging to somebody who meets the subscriber/membership criteria? Re: How To Set User Name?
Mark,
A new member to my new group wishes to have a User Name, but on hisThere are two names the member might wish to set. The User name is part of the person's Groups.io account, and is in common with all of that person's group subscriptions. That's why it isn't settable from a single group's Subscription page. To set it select "Account" from the menu that drops down from your name, on the right of the blue logo bar at the top of all pages. Select the "Identity" page, then edit your Account Profile (the topmost section). The User Name entry field is preceded by an "@" sign to signify that setting it creates a link to your group profile. For example: /g/GroupManagersForum/profile/@Shal The Display name is part of each group Subscription, and can be set from the member's group profile. It has a default value taken from the member's account (accessed as above). Shal |
Re: Do messages count
Ken,
AFAIK message attachments are the only stored items deleted when theCorrect. And even that is optional. In the Message Formatting section of the group's Settings page is an "Out of Space" option which allows you to choose between deleting old attachments and rejecting ("bouncing") new messages with attachments. How To Set User Name?
Mark Bielecki
I've been away from groups.io and just returned with a new group.
My apologies if this question has already been answered, I did do some searching but couldn't find an answer. When I joined groups.io back when it started I was given an option to choose a User Name. A new member to my new group wishes to have a User Name, but on his Subscription/Group Profile tab it reads "User Name Not Set" and there is no obvious place to set a User Name. It's probably staring us in the face, but I've looked all over the place, he's looked all over the place, neither of us can find the location to set his User Name.?? Can somebody point out where to go to add or change a User Name in a member's group profile? Thanks in advance for your help! Mark Bielecki |
Re: Set to no emails from members in Yahoo Groups?
A reply that will likely be useful to others. I volunteer to transfer to the wiki.

Also when you near the storage limit, attachments in messages will be deleted;

I moved my list from YahooGroups this week. After I determined that the transfer was successful, I set the entire group default to moderated postings. Only 5 (out of 1600) members have tried to post after I sent a special notice that all posting would continue only on groups.io By moderating posting of messages, files and photos the Yahoogroup will be static. 3 times instead of approving a moderated request to post, I replied directly to the YG member that the group had moved. I also checked to make sure that their membership had transferred. After the first day the only activity on the old YG list has been members unsubscribing. Re: Do messages count
I believe the only things that count against the storage limit are Attachments, Photos, Files, Database Images, and Wiki Images. The Messages, Calendar, Chats, member lists, directory, hashtags, actual database, and Wiki pages don't. There may be other things that don't, but I have trouble keeping up with all the features that Mark keeps adding. ;>)

Do messages count
Hi
Just had my Yapoo group transferred here -- big THANKS to MARK and the transfer team.? Prior to moving Yapoo did not allow us to delete or save photos, so within two days here my group cleaned out their past photos and are ready to start over. My concern is whether or not messages count towards our space.? Does anyone know?? Do I need to be concerned about deleting messages each week? Unlike other groups I've joined here on this platform we're chatty.? We are a small but happy and friendly group sharing our love of card making and giving, so we chat! If anyone knows, please respond.?? Big Thanks in advance. Febe |
Re: Question about Member Notices - Note to Member
Would this be a generic message that could be sent to any member you choose? On Thu, Jan 25, 2018 at 12:37 PM, Toby Kraft <toby@...> wrote: Lily,? |
Re: Question about Member Notices - Note to Member
Lily,
As a follow on to my prior comment, the Active Message check box only applies to Member Notices that are automatically sent by groups.io in response to certain events.? So the Welcome notice sent by groups.io has this setting.? This allows you to have, for example, a draft Welcome notice or perhaps different Welcome notices and select which one is the Active one that groups.io is to use when a member joins. The Note to Member notice is only sent manually by a mod/owner so there is no need for the Active Message flag (they are all 'Active' and available to be used by default).?? Toby PS - I keep discovering more clever features of groups.io.. :) |
Set to no emails from members in Yahoo Groups?
Hello again,
The leadership of my recently transferred group would like to keep the Yahoo Groups open because that is the main way people find us. Does anyone know if there is a way to set the group to no messages, so that it is really just there as a calling card, so to speak. Thanks for all your help, Tiffany |
Re: Question about Member Notices - Note to Member
Lily,?
Thanks for the question. This is used to send canned messages to members easily.? When you open a member's page, there is a Send Message button at the bottom.?? On the Send Message page, there is a drop down box to select what message to send.? The default is a blank message "--Notices--".? But if you create a "Note to Member", it (they if you setup more than one) will show up there (at bottom above the BCC) and you can select which one to use, like a template of pre-filled in text in the subject and body.? So you could store a note explaining how a user can set their password - Send Message, select the Note, click send, boom! - you're done!? Looks like you can create any number of notes, each with their own subject/body. Toby |
Re: Question about Member Notices - Note to Member
Thanks, Don, for the instructions.
I am actually asking how to use this type of notice selection "Note to Member". It's described as "Message sent to a member". There's no setting for when or who. I did set up one for testing: the message was saved, but nothing happened. There's no "Active Message" box to click. Thanks. Lily |
