Re: Making other members moderators/owners
When there are pending members, the site assumes that you'll want to see those first, so takes you to that page when you click Members under the Admin menu. On that page, it will show "Pending Approval" in the drop down box at the upper left. You can select "Members" there to see all of them. If there are no Pending members, you'll go to the Members page by default. Once there, select the member that you want to give additional privileges to. On their page, you can select the Role you want them to have. If you select Moderator, additional items will be shown for you to select from. Save any changes and you (and they) should be set.

Making other members moderators/owners
Hi all,
My group has been successfully transferred, yay! Looks like everything is in tact, all members messages, etc. So grateful for this. So I'm trying to figure out how to make some of my members moderators and/or co-owners. I'm sure it is simple, but I'm not seeing it. Also, when I go to the Admin drop down menu and click on "members" all I see is one pending member. There isn't a list for all the members in the group. I know I can see the members in the "directory" that everyone can view, it just seems like I should see them there too. Thanks for help! Tiffany |
Re: Data protection
Ah, the dreaded GDPR. I assume that Mark, like Yahoogroups, Google and
everybody else in or out of Europe will store our data under the provisions of GDPR. And presumably some statement in the terms and conditions to state that they do. The implications of GDPR for small clubs and societies is still not that clear, even though May is not long to go (and I could mean May as in our PM..). Consent may mean just a box on the join form that one has to tick ('I have read the terms and conditions') or it may demand something else like an email reply. Who knows, I suspect life will carry on just as it has done since the computer was invented. Re: What action is required by members after the transfer?
Jim,
Does the green banner you refer to mention the short time scale? No, it does not. What I quoted is all it says. If not perhaps I should raise that on beta? It seems essential forI think that's a very good idea. In fact, the page is rather blank. Maybe it should cite the Subject line, and To & From addresses of the sent message to help the member identify it. And suggest that the member check their Spam folder if it is not in their Inbox. It could even suggest white-listing the From address. See what you think. Go to the site, log out if you're logged in. Click Log In near the upper right, and click the button. It won't harm anything. That will also give you an opportunity to review the email that is sent. Shal |
Re: 0 files were transferred
I will download them and upload to the group, which bringsThis was a request in beta six months ago. () After my groups were transferred it became apparent there were a number of photos that were way larger than they should be. I would like to be able to resample them down in size without changing ownership. The Phots and Files areas both need to be reorganized as well, but there's no way for an owner or moderator to do that without assuming ownership of the file in question. I see this as a housekeeping issue, but it doesn't seem to be important enough to generate much response from others. Dano |
Re: What action is required by members after the transfer?
Carol,
Sorry for lack of quote, haven¡¯t seen how to do that yet in groups.ioThere are two ways: select the text you wish to quote before clicking Reply, or click the "Quote Whole Post" button after clicking Reply. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Message-composition-tips-and-tricks I am confused on what the members expect to see. After everything has been copied each will receive a welcome notice from Groups.io. It includes a link to the group's site and an opt-out in case they don't want to be in the new group. If you set up a "Welcome" notice on the Member Notices tab of your group's Settings page they will receive that also. Is there a wiki I am missing? There's GMF's. It isn't comprehensive but we are trying to supplement what's available on the official help page. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki /static/help Shal |
Re: Question about Member Notices - Note to Member
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYes, Member Notices. Select Pending Subscriptions from the Notice Type drop down box, then check Active Message box. Below the check box write your message, then click on Update Notice. ? Don |
Re: Is there a way to send an Inquiry type email before accepting new members in Groups.io?
That could work.?It is slow, but you can read the responses and see if it is?acceptable. I remember I had to answer about 10-15 questions before joining one group.?It was nuts, but it worked for the mods.

Take care

Wo! What happened, that email looks like a mess. Anyway, to answer the poster's question if there is no way, maybe suggest this to the beta team.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThere is a setting you can try at Amin/settings/, and at the top of the page there is a setting for Member Notices. Check that out. I set up a Pending Subscriptions, but I¡¯m not sure how it¡¯s working. If I don¡¯t the who the person is that trying to join, then I send them an email also. That was normal operating procedure at Y, so I¡¯m trying to do it at Groups.io ? Don ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Barbara Jones

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIf you are a group owner or perspective owner, you can set up your group as a restricted group and therefore be able to contact the prospective applicant before them being approved to your group.

Yes, I know what the process is (although I haven't needed to use it since the time limit was introduced) and that workaround is pretty obvious to someone who is reasonably clued up. I vaguely remember the timescale being discussed some time ago on beta. Does the green banner you refer to mention the short time scale? If not perhaps I should raise that on beta? It seems essential for some people. Jim On 23 Jan 2018 at 22:51, Shal Farley wrote:

Is there any way to RSVP without logging in?
#calendar
I anticipate that many of the people on my list will probably never need to log in to the groups.io site, and many are also technically challenged.? That said, the RSVP feature could be useful since our group holds events frequently, so I've been trying it out with a couple folks that were direct added to my group.? (In time everyone will be direct added).
When they try to RSVP, it asks for a login/password which they don't have.? The only options I see for them to continue at that point are to: 1) Do 'forgot password' and set up an account 2) Direct them to get a temporary link for sign-in.? Unfortunately this pretty much ends the process for most of our users.? Is there a better option that I've missed? Thanks, Christine |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWe had issues on our enterprise account with bouncing members.?
