I have had similar problems on my iPad. I think "missing content in Portrait mode is "known" iOS behavior. ?I prefer portrait mode so I can use two thumbs to type. Apparently those of us who prefer portrait mode are in the minority. So in order to see everything, the iPad needs to be turned to landscape mode to "find it". Then it somehow remembers the missing content so that it will be displayed in the future while in Portrait mode.?
IDK, but maybe that applies to iPhones as well. Glad the newer model or newer iOS was able to see all the content. Gives me hope when I upgrade. -- Sandi Dickenson |

I am wrapping my head around this one. I too, don't see anyway to force a web only reply.?
Even if it were possible, members could email new posts to the group by inserting your group's email address in the "TO" field. You would end up with new posts as replys to already posted topics. I do know of a service that does require members to log in to post. It's called . They work closely with hobby clubs that need to keep all content "closed and private".? Members receive an email digest of the topics posted but they receive no content. They are forced to log into the website in order to read the post and reply.? It offers a forum, calendar and direct add and removal of members. There's a file area for newsletters and other content. Support is outstanding. They are good at hand holding every step of the way.? -- Sandi Dickenson |

Hi Maria,
I have always done it the same way as Michael describes. I feel it gives me more control. Instead of wondering if the change will "go through OK" on the system side of things.? I know immediately that I can get in as an owner under both emails which is a lifesaver in event that one account were to compromised or lock me out.? I usually also join under a third account as a member and set that to digest. It lets me monitor what my members see on their digest. -- Sandi Dickenson |
Re: Why is it
Stan,
Why is it that I get the first post of a thread in this group but doIn /this/ group, GroupManagersForum, your subscription (Advanced Preferences tab) is set to: | Message Selection | | Following Only | Only the messages in topics or hashtags the member has chosen to | follow are emailed to them, according to their Email Delivery | selection. | | First Message Also | In addition to the topics and hashtags the member has selected to | follow, the first message of every new topic is also emailed to them. To see the replies in a topic of interest, click the "Follow This Topic" link in the message footer. Groups.io will send you the replies to date, and then any further replies in this topic. Or, change your Message Selection to All Messages and receive them all. Shal -- Help: /helpcenter More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: Why is it
BTW, I just tested it to see what the footer looks like and it says this:
Every message in topics or hashtags you are following is emailed to you.
The first message of every new topic is also emailed to you.?
You automatically follow any topics you start or reply to.

Re: Invites not working
Cal,
You can send each prospective user an "invite" via email. All the user has to do is Reply to the invite to be subscribed. That's easier than instructing him in how to start the process. Go to Admin-->Invite. There's a spot to create a standard message and another spot to override the standard message when special circumstances arise. You can enter email addresses in short form (joe@...) or long form (Joe Smith <joe@...>). Larry |
Re: Members left and rejoined -- overseas students
We have this problem with one of our groups on LinkedIn.??Because of this very irritating issue, a?couple of years ago we sent polite notes to a few totally-unqualified students asking why they had applied. Found that some overseas schools are instructing their students to join online groups they are unqualified for as a means of connecting with US employers.? We added more working to the name of the group. No effect -- presumably because LinkedIn groups are actually in the LinkedIn system by number rather than name. The audience for the group is now more explicitly given in the name of the group -- so that it is even more clear to anyone who minimally understands written English. It appears that these students are carpet-bombing online groups using lists of links. Suggest you send notes to them asking that your group be taken off whatever list they are using.? ?--cg

Re: Members left and rejoined
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDave, Actually, I don't think I do want them as members. Some background: back in September and October, I received a bunch of new membership applications, all from AOL addresses. The Pending Membership notice asks for a reason for them to request subscribing. I'm not too particular about what their reason is, as much as I just want a human response. After seeing more than one response that was just one line saying something along the lines of? 'I'm about to graduate and my professor said I should look at this site to get information about getting a job', I started getting suspicious and began looking more deeply into these applicants. Turns out that they all were coming from the same city in India, although a few of them were from the Netherlands. So I've stopped approving them (we're a group of railfans in New England; we know nothing about hiring people from halfway around the world). These three were already approved before my crackdown. The fact that all three 'left via web' within 24 hours and 'rejoined via web within 2 minutes the next day REALLY got my attention. They haven't posted any messages so they are still NMM, and I can't see that they have caused any problems, but the whole thing doesn't seem right to me. My next course of action if they don't respond to the message I sent them is to remove them and see what happens after that. If they come back again, I will ban them. There are several clues in what you just said, and my money is on that they are spammers, and they have been harvesting emails addresses all this time. I guess what I'm really trying to find out is if this some function that in 3 years of ownership I had never heard about or run across or if it is a bug I should report to Mark. I's personally would report it on beta, if not as a #bug, as a #misc at least, so this way you/we can get more clarification; something indeed doesn't seem 100% right here, and it could be there is some loophole somewhere which those folks may have discovered/exploited, you never know. Cheers, Christos |
I'm not 100% sure but I don't think there is a native/built-in way to do this. ?And even if you technically can institute it into a group policy and enforced it, it would require some mod work until folks get the message, and then it would still require work to ensure it stays like this.
I'm curious though, why do you want this? ?I'm asking because it could be the reason/problem/whatever you're trying to address may be achievable by some other less-work means. Cheers, Christos |

Is it possible to set it up such that all members (except owners and mods) need to post and reply from the web ONLY? In other words, you see a topic in email, but you have to click on a link to visit the topic online to reply??
I am not sure that I will, but wondered if possible, thanks. Mod's note: added web-only to subject line |
