Re: Time Zone Issue for Events
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýChristine,I'm also finding that ?an event appears as? There's something definitely fishy if those two screen shots were taken with the same login. Feed and Your Calendar ought to reflect the same timezone. The calendar as seen through the group too. I will admit that I almost never look at Feed or any of the other combined-groups pages though. It's not a huge deal, I've just been telling group members to view the events within the calendar and disregard the feed view times, but it certainly is curious :) With that evidence in hand I'd be tempted to report the bug in beta. It just bugs me that I can't reproduce it though. Are you saying that other members also see a discrepancy between Feed and Your Calendar, or the group's Calendar? Non-member messages not "owned" by them after they join
Hi,
My group allows non-members to post. Let's say I approve a message from a non-member, and that person later joins the group with the same email address that they used when sending as a non-member. Once they join the group, the messages they sent while a non-member do not appear the same way in the groups UI as messages they sent after they become a member. The non-member messages don't show their avatar, and you can't click their username/"from" name to see their profile. For the messages sent after they become a member, the avatar shows, I can click their username/"from" name, and clicking "All messages by this member" only show the emails sent after they became a member. Screenshot to illustrate: I would like ALL messages sent by a particular address to be treated as if the user was a member when the message sent. Is there a setting somewhere that I've missed? Thanks in advance for any help! -Steve |

Re: Time Zone Issue for Events
Hi again Shal,
I'm also finding that ?an event appears as? ?but from feed view I click on 'Your Calendar' and the same event appears in the calendar with the correct time. and it's the same scenario with every event, so yes, there's something glitchy somewhere. Re: Time Zone Issue for Events
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýChristine,I've been to Account>Preferences and the Time Zone is UTC (Dublin Edinburgh Lisbon London), and each of the calendar events I've created has the same time zone. Hmm... That's puzzling. I've verified that the the Feed page displays according to the account's Time Zone setting (and isn't simply defaulting to, say, U.S. Pacific, because that's where Groups.io is): The screenshot on the left is an account in U.S. Pacific time, the screenshot on the right is in U.S. Eastern time. They have the expected three hour difference in the events. And just to complete the test, neither of those are the same as the timezone set in the event itself, yet all the correct adjustments were made: Is there somewhere else I should be finding another time zone setting that I'm missing? Not that I know of. In my example the Hashtag event is at 2:05 am Central, which would be 0805 UTC. Each of the viewing members see a local time that also corresponds to 0805 UTC. So that leaves me baffled how you can be seeing an offset of 8 hours if both the event and the viewing member have the same timezone setting. It is possible that there's a bug of some kind in the system, or that there's something we're missing. I don't know if it is something awry in your description or in my understanding. One suspicious thing is that your time zone is currently UTC+0000 (and will be until summer time takes effect, if it does in your locale). Maybe that's somehow... ?vs Nope. Even setting the account timezone of the login I'm using to view the feed to your timezone gets me the correct absolute time. Sandi wrote: "The bizarre thing to me is how I can receive it in my email from him as an interactive link but the email going to the groups isn't being posted as an interactive link." This isn't odd at all. Some mail agents at the receiving end?will recognize a link and automatically convert it while displaying it. If you really want to see the difference between a pair of received mails when you are using webmail like Gmail or Yahoo, display the raw text of each and look for the links. A non-active link will appear there as simply http://groups.io/g/foo for example. An active link will <a href=http://groups.io/g/foo>http://groups.io/g/foo</a> Gmail will make both of these active when it renders them for display. In Gmail, open a message. Near the top, at the right are Star, Reply Arrow, and three vertical dots. Click the three dots and select "Show original." Scroll down past the table and you will see the raw text. Larry |

Sandi,
Thanks for clearing that up. I received "M's" email on my iPad in theActually, no. In that case I think it would be the iOS Mail app that did it, not Gmail acting as an intermediary for the app. I was referring to Gmail's web interface doing that which I know does it. Re: Links in posts aren't showing as interactive
Sandi D.
Shal,
Thanks for clearing that up. I received "M's" email on my iPad in the native iOS Mail app so I hadn't considered that my Gmail account may have made his string of characters interactive.? "M" is posting from his @gmail address. Like me, he has configured his iPad to send and receive from his @gmail account.? So I would suspect his Gmail would theoretically have also created an interactive link when it was sent from his Gmail account to the forum.? I have a few more ideas. I have searched the forum for all of "M's" posts. He has sent a total of 3. Two links were hypertexted in one of his posts and the other two posts each had one plain text string that was not hypertexted. I'll check again to see if "M" may be in the forum under 2 email address, perhaps one isn't a Gmail account. Or maybe he changed his email address from something else to Gmail in the past week. I'm not the group owner, but I will pass along to him how to "Force HTML". At some point I need to get on my computer and log into my Gmail to see the Content Type coming from "M". It's not something I can do on the iOS Mail app. I did try hitting the More menu like Bruce suggested but on my iPad it didn't give me a "View Source" option. So I will try doing that from my computer.? I have asked "M" to forward me all three of his posts from his Sent folder to see if I can discern why one came though active and the other 2 didn't. As far as the other person, "J", emailed me to say it was fine for me to edit his posts and make them interactive. "J" isn't interested in problem solving it any further. He is posting from a .com domain that is associated with his business and he's given me no other information other than he's a Mac user.? The third person hasn't reached out to me. I don't recall offhand his email address.? Hoping the "forced HTML" will resolve this. That would be the easiest solution for all concerned. BTW, it wasn't a complaint from the others that the links aren't interactive. It is what I am seeing when I log into the forum as a Mod. I am the one seeing some of them as interactive and some are not. I am seeing them on my iPad in the default Safari browser. The non interactive ones were posted before I joined the group. My "job" was to create and assign hashtags and to do that I needed to read the posts and that's when I noticed some of the links weren't hypertexted. (At least not on the webpage.) I haven't noticed that in the other groups I own/moderate.? Appreciate all the helpful responses. Time to get busy on my end of things!? -- Sandi Dickenson Moderator of NMUG Group |
Re: Links in posts aren't showing as interactive
Sandi,
The bizarre thing to me is how I can receive it in my email from himIt goes back to what Bruce said, Gmail's web interface automatically "linkifies" plain-text URLs, even email addresses. Other members, using other email interfaces, may see that same plain-text URL's as just text. They would need to copy/paste the URL to a browser address bar to access the referenced page. Next time you have a message which other's claim contain plain-text URLs, but you see it as a link, use Gmail's Show Original function. It may be informative to know what Content-Type fields are in the header. Your message, for example, contained three: Content-Type: multipart/alternative; ...Other messages may contain all three, or only text/plain, or only text/HTML (there are other possibilities, but far less common). If your group has neither Plain Text Only nor Force HTML checked, then the message will go out by email the same way as it was received from the member. Re: Time Zone Issue for Events
Christine,
But our event times are still showing as incorrect timezone in theBear in mind that the Feed view is shown in the time zone of the logged in account. I believe that's as it should be. I've checked to make sure that individual accounts and calendarNo issue that I can see. My Feed is showing me events from various group subscriptions at the times I expect for those events. Those events with timezones different from mine are adjusted. For example, one group has an event defined as occurring at 2:05 central time. In my feed it shows at 12:05 because I'm in pacific time, two hours behind central time. Attaching a screengrab - the events showing as 7am are actually all atThis strongly suggest that your logged-in account is set for Pacific Standard time (UTC-0800) whereas the events themselves are defined in UTC time. Or some other combination with an 8 hour difference. So I think your assertion that the accounts (only the one you're logged in with matters) and the calendar events have correct time zones needs further examination. Or maybe your perception that the Feed is incorrect is mistaken. Shal -- Help: /helpcenter More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
