Anita -- I'm hearing conflicting information.?Your best route to track this down is the activity log.

If you unsubbed, it will say "Display Name <email @address> left via web." In this case, you will not receive a confirmation email with any link to immediately rejoin.

If you (or your ISP) marked a group message as spam, it will say "Display Name <email @address> reported a message as spam and was removed via email." There is no way to mark a message as spam using the groups.io web interface.

Usually if you get unsubbed because of spam it will say that but it
didn't. I was wondering how this could happen and if someone
could unsub you after they left the group to get back at you for
some crazy reason.
It's possible that a co-owner or Moderator kicked you off the group, but that shouldn't send you any auto-resub link, either. A Member Notice of type Goodbye could contain a link of some kind, but such a link wouldn't automatically add you back.

Again, check the log.

Bruce

Member Directory and Member List are two separate things.? The Member List shows everything you as owner can see about a person.? Member Directory only shows what a person puts in their public Profile to others that have made their Profile public.? See the section on "Customizing your Groups.io account profile and individual group profiles" on the Help page.

Are you sure that Members are seeing this, or just you (as Owner)? Are you looking at the Directory, or the Member List? They are not the same thing.?

The Directory is an index of Member profiles. Until each Member creates a profile and shares it, they shouldn't be able to see each other in the Directory at all.

/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/6114?

1. How does a member hide their personal email address if they do not want it seen by other members?
Each profile must have a label of some kind.
  • If a group Display Name is populated, then that is used as the profile label, and will be shown here.
  • If a Member hasn't populated a Display Name, their system-wide @username will appear here, if available.
  • If neither Display Name or a system-wide @username is populated, their email address will show up as myemail@... (no domain information).?
Only Owners and Moderators can see the full email address.?

2. How do I set it up so that their photo and bio details also show? But their personal email does not?
As stated above, personal emails do not display for Members, only Owners and Moderators.

Each Member has to create their own profile and share it. You cannot create a profile for them.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

AFAIK you can't; it's all or nothing.

Re: Question about owner being unsubbed

Anita,
That sounds a lot like the usual route for a spam message type event. GIO
gets a notice of a spam reject, it flags the account and generates the
message. While it says it unsubscribes, it still knows all the groups that
user was in so they all get reenabled when the message about being cut out
'by mistake' gets the right reply. While it had said the person was
unsubscribed, I suspect it is really just a special state of nomail awaiting
the reply.

Well you are right about the name, it used the email address according to the failure notice.?
While its possible the treasurer entered the wrong card number,? its not likely.? Will have to get her to do it again.?

Question about owner being unsubbed

I had a weird thing happen last night. I am an owner of a group
and I got unsubbed and it said via web. I never did that.
Then got a email saying if it was a mistake to click on a link and I got back
to my group.
How could this have happened?
Thanks

Anita

Mod's note: add "being unsubbed" from body of email for clarification

No hashtag, approve first message, subscribed email address.
Probably the best clue will be in the Activity log.? There will be an entry similar to "[user] sent message [topic title] requiring approval because (some reason) via web/email".? That should give the specific reason.? (Choose "Sent message requiring approval" from the Actions drop down box, then click Search.)

Re: I keep having to approve my own messages. Why?

I¡¯ve run into the same problem. No hashtag, approve first message, subscribed email address. Affects long-time members. Non-members cannot post. No other moderator. It hasn¡¯t happened lately, but it seems intermittent and can last for days (though since the group is low traffic, it¡¯s not that many messages)

Is there a hashtag on the message/topic?? Those can be set to require moderation of any message using it.

Re: I keep having to approve my own messages. Why?

No, I actually go to the group itself (like I am now) and write a message. Sometimes I reply to a message. I am the owner of the group and I have set no moderation on myself anywhere. We have posting privileges set to approve the first message for new members and that's it. No one from outside may post. But I noticed we have members who've been around a long time who still need approval even though they've posted before and are not on moderation. It's no limits we've set. I've checked repeatedly, and finally thought there had to be a "help" topic somewhere about this. That's how I found this group.

Re: Non-subscriber receiving group posts

Tom,

The person shown in the footer isn't subscribed either.
If you have examples of messages from your group containing an unsubscribe address in the footer that is not (and has not been*) subscribed to your group, I think that is definitely worthy of a #bug report in beta.

No other considerations are needed to know that that is a "can't happen" error - it doesn't matter how the message subsequently was delivered to the person that contacted you. An address in the footer that was not a member of the group at the time the message was sent "can not happen".

Unless some malcontent member is altering them to hide his/her identity. Or what Duane said about crooks copying message content and forging their own footer.

I'd want also to double-check the Received fields in the header as received by that person. Did the message come to her direct from Groups.io, or by way of some forwarding. If she's up to it, have her use this analysis tool and send you a screenshot or copy/paste of the results:

A message forwarded to you is not suitable for analysis - it will only lead back to the person who forwarded it. You need the header of the message as she received it. Some email interfaces (Thunderbird) have a "Forward as attachment" feature which will send you a file containing the original message, header and all. But the chances that she's using such an interface and knows how to use the feature seems slim.

*Double-check the "and has not been" by searching your group's Activity Log for the footer address.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Okay I understand.? What about the name of the person on the card?? The payment failed seemed to be tied to my email and not my name.? Can you think of a way to add a new card with a different name.? That would probably fix everything.

You can't change from private posts to public posts. It is based on the underlying commitment that you have made to members - that their posts are not freely available on the internet. (My imperfect understanding of it!)

Billing Name Change

I am having a billing problem on my Premium Group.? It's for a Non-Profit and the system keeps trying to bill the company card with my name rather than the name on the card.? It doesn't seem to let me edit it either.? It's put in a new card - (same old name) or pay invoice again!

Can anyone provide some suggestions?
