is there a feature to block members by country or ip address?
i have been getting pounded by the scammers lately..
so far the approval of any message feature has been working so at least the group is not getting the batch of scam spam.?
i would like to be able to block africa as well as asia..

a whole country block would be cool.
at least for my group.

Thank you, Bruce. Rather than anonimity I had in mind consistency. Although we do have a specific hashtag for admin messages, it would be more consistent for me (and more clear for my group members) that messages sent from the +owner address appeared under a unique display name.

If you have access to 'awk' (pretty much standard on all Unix and Unix-like systems, but there are also Windows ports floating around), you can just have it print the colums you want from the download.? i.e. to print the name of the member (2nd column), and their email address (1sts column), 1st download memberlist.csv, then:? awk -F, '{print $2,$1}' memberlist.csv?

Steve -- Be careful doing that.

As stated earlier, copying an image from a web site generally puts its?URL on the clipboard, not the actual binary image. It may seem to work for awhile, because the recipient probably has web access, and it can continue to be fetched as needed....but if the image is ever moved or deleted at the source, it will magically disappear from your message, too.

In addition, if the image requires some subscription for access, it's likely that no one receiving your group post will see it at all...simply because they aren't logged into newspapers.com like you are. This could explain your failed-to-fetch-the-blob error message.

To confirm, go to Emailed Photos and check to see if the image you added actually appears there. If not, then it isn't resident in groups.io.

That could be, but generally speaking you're really rolling the dice by using cut-and-paste. The only robust way to embed an image via the GIO message editor is to first download it as a file, followed by uploading it with the Add Image dialog.

To the source, it was a clipping from newspapers dot com. I normal copy my clippings directly from that site right onto my group post. Maybe related to the iPad vs the windows laptop.

It does help. This occurred on an iPad, normally I use my HP laptop when at home.
I'll stick with the a pic button now.

Things like this can happen if the image is in your browser cache but no longer resident at the source.

You didn't state where the original image was located or how you got it on your clipboard.?Images, when subjected to a copy operation in a browser, are usually transferred to your clipboard as a URL. When selected and copied from image editing software, it is copied as a Binary Large OBject (blob). If the original source could not be found, an error of this type is sent to the clipboard instead. From the error above it seems you were trying to copy an image that was thought by your OS to already be resident somewhere in groups.io, but couldn't be found. We will need further details on this.

Summarizing, what I'm seeing suggests that the error occurred during the copy, not the paste.?

This is normal. Adding images (or any other attachments) during a message edit is not a permitted operation.

Did a third reply to the same post, this time the add image button appeared and I was able to attached the pic.

Add Image does not use the clipboard -- the image is instead uploaded as a file. This is the preferred way to put an image in your message.?

True, and simple enough. Still, there seems to be little reason why we cannot reply to a message using the +owner address. I've made a suggestion to that effect in beta.

I may have jumped to conclusions as to what Chris's goal is (see below)...

Chris could also sign their post to the member with:

"Chris,
Group Moderator"

and that can be done through their own email program. I've done that for years, and it works fine.

Jonathan -- From where I stand, you don't seem to be missing anything.

• Special notice emails are sent with [Special] pre-pended to the subject line, but there's no such indicator in the message archive.
• As you noted, the activity log displays "sent special message" but provides no way to search on it.
• Per Andy and Frances, hashtags may be set up to be "sent as special", but that doesn't help identify special notices sent in other ways (e.g.: group guidelines, calendar reminders, manually).?

Might be a good suggestion for beta. Personally, if it's a choice between searching the activity log or having some kind of indicator/filter available directly within the message archive, I'd prefer the latter (maybe "Special" could be added to the pull-down menu at upper left).

Hi Jonathan,

There are currently two terms used for the same thing and special notice shows on the activity log as a special message. I've highlighted this inconsistency in (the official suggestion group) and also suggested that an additional search criterion is added to the Actions field drop-down in the Activity Log view..

Frances' suggestion about searching by hashtag will work from the messages screen but assumes that you have tagged your special notices/messages with one.

To my knowledge, both of these functions are only available via the web interface. There is no provision within groups.io to "reply" to the entire group as a Moderator,* nor can +owner messages be sent via email.?
