Re: member unsubscribed for 'marking a message as spam'?

I agree, Nivard. And I'd add - inconveniences come with the territory of being a moderator. Some you can get around and some you can't. I believe this is the latter and I've done what can to make my members' lives, and mine, as easy as possible, including having two other moderators to spread the work out.

This is one of MANY, MANY, MANY issues that less savvy users face when dealing with tech, and Mark has made it as easy as humanly possible for users and moderators to deal with it.?

Re: member unsubscribed for 'marking a message as spam'?

Hi Lori

Its been discussed many times here, its not something groups.io want to do, its imposed on them but they need to comply to provide a service

Have you posted a warning to your subscribers about the possibility of being unsubscribed? and how to get back in the group?

Explain it may not be something *they* do that cause it but their email provider auto deleting from their spam folder

Its really *very* easy to get back in the group, one click and its done
(and is all explained in the message they receive)

In eight months I have had 11 (of well over a thousand subscribers), two were repeat offenders and all but two resubscribed immediately

The vast majority of my subscribers cannot be described as young either ;-)

If you have subscribers actions set to inform you (Subscription > Membership > Moderator Notifications > Members :-) by email, you will get a message to say XXX has been unsubscribed for marking a post as spam, and then one when they resubscribe, so the only ones you would need to check are those where you only get the unsubscribe due to spam

I suggest you search for Wordpress in the GMF (here!) message archive. There have been a few discussions you might find useful.?

Also you can use Promote from Admin on your Groups.io site.?

It has this -?

Reading messages on a Wordpress site?

Please forgive me if this has been answered - I've been searching in this group but perhaps my search terms were insufficient.

Like so many groups, ours used to be a Yahoo group. Some people really liked being able to log into Yahoo to read all the messages, much like the Messages tab on groups.io, and others preferred email. We've moved our whole site to WordPress, and the person running it has implemented a message board which is clunky as can be and has no email function, so for anyone to see what's going on they have to periodically log in to the site. I've been advocating moving to groups.io (I even did the Yahoo export way back when), but the person running our site will only accede to it if it can be integrated into WordPress.

In other words, is there a way to embed the Messages tab from a groups.io group into a website??

By going from a mailing list to a message board, I fear we've lost a MASSIVE percentage of our community.

Comparing email headers from your message ... both follow the form
"username=domain<at>groups.io".
There are other circumstances where Groups.io applies DMARC rewriting. One is me receiving my own messages back, because otherwise Gmail puts up a big bright and annoying warning about the message not actually being from me. But Gmail's inbound processing doesn't seem to object to other addresses being spoofed, even other Gmail addresses.
Just closing the loop on this. Changing DMARC from p=none to p=reject in fact had no effect on the From header for messages back to myself. Maybe it changed for messages sent to others--I am no longer receiving DMARC failure reports re. groups.io. Wish there was comprehensive documentation about header re-writing and DMARC--it's frustrating to be trying to piece together how this works. Thanks Shal for carrying the historical feature update index in your head!

Re: video clip storage

Beth
we have a vid saved in the files - it was actually a transfer over from YahCHOO! I believe.?

I created a folder ¡°wiki_files¡± and store any wiki stuff there so I can easily find and edit in the future. So?you could create a sort of Vid index page on wiki if you have a lot of vids and link to each one or groups of vids in different folders. ?Or do the same in a sticky message that you just update/save (or resend) if editing is turned on. ?I do that with a continuing boater safety message that has updated info (PDFs, not vids) every so often.?

And of course you can attach a vid right to a message (unsure where on G.io that gets saved?)

?

Replying to messages with attachments #attachments

A group member forwarded a message with 2 short attachments last week. On the groups.io site the attachments look like this and I can open and read them:

Another member replied to the post today, and in the email I received, the quoted text from the previous message didn't include the actual attachments, only:
<mime-attachment>
<mime-attachment>

I logged into groups.io, and I see them same thing in the quoted text. So those of us who deleted the original post in our email can only see the attachments by logging into groups.io and finding the original post. Is this just the way groups.io works or is there some setting that will make sure attachments are included again in every message in a thread?

Interestingly, I replied to the original message but changed the subject line and, when I did that, no quoted text at all was included in my message.

Re: video clip storage

Andy,

We ended up using BOX Storage.? It's 10Gb free space for the free account.? Our group decided to have a Wiki page with listed resources to post the storage links.? Thus, what's only saved on the files or photos now are message attachments.?

Re: Help figure out DMARC failure

JIm,

I've added a report in beta.

I saw one DKIM succeed in an MxToolbox check. I think it was an email from Yahoo. I wonder if part of the issue is rotating keys. If they use, say, two selectors and rotate the keys back and forth between them every couple days, checking old message would fail.

I see your PTR about 66.175.222.108 (pun intended!)..

I turned on p=reject a couple days ago. I'll be interested to see if this message makes it through--and how my From appears now.

My understanding is that even with strict DMARC, if either SPF or DKIM passes, the message passes DMARC.Strict just means exclude subdomains.

I don't mind discussing off list but I also see value in posting non-private info publically in case it helps others in the future.

Mark

Re: video clip storage

For video clips, MP4s, etc. that you want to share with people --

WeTransfer has been very helpful.

There is a free version of the service, can upload/send a link to up to 2 GB -- the link for people to download expires in I think 2 weeks.? There is no storage.

The "pro" version is $12/month, you can send up to 20 GB, can store up to 1 TB, and you can have the links either expire, or can have them permanent -- (and you can edit this as time goes on).

So that'd be $240/year for the pro version -- Some musician friends and I find this worth doing, to share large video and audio files and have them available to participants, etc.

We Transfer has been safe, pretty easy to use (downloading is pretty fast, we have slow internet so it takes us a bit of time to upload but it has worked well).

Existing groups will keep whatever features were available when they were created, no matter when the change takes place, as stated in Mark's message .

You can also put links in your Files section to some other cloud storage locations such as Dropbox and Google Drive which means you won't use your storage. Check out the options on the drop down menu on the +New button at the top of the Files section page.

You should be able to store video clips in Files section.? After all,? video clips are computer files.? I have been able to store MP4 files that are videos.

video clip storage

In this fun time of zoom and other online meetings, I have been asked if we can store video clips in either our files or photos sections.? I have looked in the new help documents which are great, but I can't find anything.? I really don't want to have to come up with another storage idea for these types of files.
Thanks
