Yeah, that's it a "mask message"? so it was already gone.? Come to think, the first message was too generic, didn't even mention the group's actual content other than using the word "content".??
Thanks!??

Bob -- We got one of those recently here in GMF, too....word for word. Shal headed it off in moderation and told the guy to repost when he had something relevant to say.

they then send ad add for something, as a 'reply' to their own first message, and my group is non-commercial, so I deleted the ad?
Was the ad about covid-19 masks? We subsequently got one of those from the same guy, and I deleted it without comment per GMF group guidelines.

If so, note what Mark (groups.io owner) said in his post?.

My guess is that Mark acted on spammer reports in other groups and deleted the guy's account before you got around to investigating. That's why you never saw him in your member list...he "disappeared" from the GMF member list in the same manner.

Bruce

That's the message archive; an owner or moderator (permissions permitting) can see the full email address in the members list.

There's a setting that controls how Groups.io displays email addresses in archive. Go to Admin > Settings and then look at the Privacy panel for "Email Address Visibility In Archive". Don't forget to save any changes with the "Update group" button at the bottom of the page.

Generic messages like that are a red flag for me.? This is one reason that it's good to set the Unmoderate After to 2 or more and let the system handle it.

I thought of one last possibility.? There's a topic here and another on the about spammers joining groups to do things like this a few days ago.? If the address you were looking for was one of those that Mark disabled, it would just suddenly disappear from your membership list.? If you had checked before he disabled it, you would have seen it.? I saw this same thing happen a few months ago when we were having spammer problems on the site and Mark disabled a bunch of accounts.

I am a tutorial writer that writes tutorials for people to follow to create stationary to be used in e-mails using PSP. Either using through Incredimail or outlook or any e-mail program that they can put the creations together in to share through their groups. And the main group that those tutorials are shared at? and not sure how they got the address unless if it was because I replied on something they created using one of my tutorials. But never figured or expected anyone to send me an invite to a group they own or run to share stuff as they specify on their groups page.

Email address not showing up properly in message text #email

Lauren Bienkowski

Hi All,? I posted to our group recently, referring to an email address that they could write to, but the email address was blocked out on the main page.? It shows up when the email came to my inbox but not when I open the message in this platform.? Is there a way to edit this so that full email addresses (including the bits after the @ sign) can show up?? Cheers, Lauren

Another thought or two...

You can't split a topic at the first message in the topic...only the second and subsequent messages.

If you're looking to change the subject line at the very first message you need to change that in Topic Properties.

Just guessing,

Re: Can't find the SPLIT TOPIC - Not on the MORE menu

I tried the help section one more time and still it's a no go via step-by-step.

Also at the bottom of the help page, it shows a TIP to put the message thread in Moderation.? I tried that too, then checked the MORE.? Still no SPLIT TOPIC option to select.

Not on the group I co - own they aren't; they turn up and we have to patiently explain that attachments are not enabled.

From the provided screenshot, you appear to be in Messages view. You have to be in Topics view?for Split Topic to appear in the More menu.

Select that from the blue pull-down menu at upper left.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

P.S.?For future reference, there also must be at least two messages in the topic.?

That would be setting the group to all messages moderated, then changing individuals to Override: Not Moderated as you see fit.? The problem with this is that if a scuffle breaks out, there's no easy way to put all of those people back on moderation at the same time.? I've got a couple of groups set to NMM and After 4 that seems to handle everything.? If I have a problem with someone, I can put them back to NMM, so they need 4 more.

Re: Can't find this member to moderate them

Looking at the setup options, one thing I didn't see is how to have it set
new members as moderate, but without a message count. Meaning they stay
moderated until a moderator sees enough meaningful traffic and decides to
unmoderated them. I guess it would be a NMM but with infinite as the release
count. This was a common way on Yahoo. While I think the auto count down is
nice, we are now seeing a hole in that method.
