Claimed messages
#wiki
Terri Carlson #253
I am a list moderator.
Regarding a claimed pending message, the GMF Wiki states "the claim only gives other moderators a warning - it doesn't actually prevent other moderators from "jumping your claim"...This is why it is unnecessary to have a way to remove the claim - if you become unable to ultimately approve or delete/reject the pending message, another moderator can step in and do it for you". I opened a pended message earlier today (in Edit mode) and a Claimed tag with my name is now attached to the message.? Another list Owner is currently prevented from taking any action on my claimed message (i.e., from "jumping my claim").? We have tried everything that we can think of to release my claim so that the Owner can complete the reconciliation of the pended message, but have met with no success.? How can we reverse the claim? |

If the alternative email address has not previously been associated with Groups.io it would create a new account at that point. Hi All,
A member of our group recently got a new iPhone and when she tries to log into the group the gets the above request. She has also tried this on her Mac & iPad with the same results. I've not encountered this before and don't have a problem logging in on my iPhone 8, yet I do not own any other ios devices. Is there something set within ios? She is certain that she is using the correct password. She receives group emails and can reply. I'm considering deleting her account and adding her back, under a different email. Before I do that, I wonder if there could be something she set to create this problem or if there is something within groups.io that I'm unaware of? Take care and Be Safe, Paul, Ohio, USA |

Is there a way to do this already?? If not, is it a difficult thing to add??

Thanks, Bruce. I'll follow up today and try to see can get done.
I did read that, but some of the details I need were missing there, and there's nothing at all on the official documentation past. It seemed the way to get it going was to "email support", so I'll do that a second time. Fingers crossed! Mike |

James -- There is no reliable way for groups.io to distinguish between a phishing email sent from a hacked account and one intentionally sent by the person who owns it. Although the service does scan attachments for viruses and malware, there is no such protection against bad hyperlinks.? Probably. Initially, I'd put this member on moderation until I'm satisfied that he's regained control of his own email account. Options available are in the Posting Privileges block of his subscription record in the Member List. If he can't regain control then you'll have to boot him off the group. Once he gets a new email address you can then consider letting him back in. If it becomes a problem with more than one member then you may have to consider forcing all message delivery to plain text only (see Message Formatting in your group Settings). Most of those who engage in phishing do not spell out the entire link URL but instead hide what's really going on behind the html. Fw: phishing attack
?
all,
?
we are new group ... maybe 7 days old.? 12 members.
?
we all just received an email from one of our members [whose normal email is @aol.com]? that was a phishing attack disguised as a link from DropBox.? I looked at the email header and it seems to me that this was indeed sent from groups.io server.
?
what do we do to safeguard against this?
?
does this mean that his aol password has been compromised?
or was the triggering email sent from a hacker account and disguised as aol ?
?
would greatly appreciate any help to resolve this.

Support reply times and imports
Mike S
What's the normal response time from support? I sent an email on Saturday and haven't received anything past the initial automated response. I don't want to just start emailing again if this is a normal time frame to expect a reply, but I also don't want to miss getting an answer if it somehow got lost in the shuffle. I'm an owner of a premium group if that makes any difference. I was checking with them on importing a large group. We'll have two MBOX files with a total of nearly 70,000 messages and about 660 members. Their imports seem to enable back-dating of messages, while the script doesn't, plus the 40 messages/30 minutes throttle means it would take about 40 days to import them using the script. We'd also like to back date the member join dates. Does anyone know the answers to the above or do I need to wait for a reply from support / follow up with them? Thanks! |
