Okay, I'll take a stab at it.

Is this using webmail? If so, this looks like the dreaded "missing blob" error. Usually it's caused by a mail server disk failure or other read error from your mail provider. On the rare occasions that this happens to me, I usually just ignore the problem and after a few hours I come back and voila' -- they've fixed it. If that doesn't happen within a reasonable timeframe, contact your provider and complain.

If it's happening with an offline mail client, you may have accidentally deleted the local file/folder containing the spam emails. Reconnect with your provider and do a mail refresh and that will probably fix it.

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

You may not have searched high (or low) enough. ;>)? On your main group, go to Admin > Subgroups.? There you'll see a list of your members with a checkbox next to each for each subgroup.? Select those properly, then click Update at the bottom of the page.? You can do all the selections on the various pages, if more than one, then do the Update.

#addmembers #subgroups #direct #addmembers #subgroups #direct

How do I add members of a parent group to a sub group? I have searched high and low.
Is there an easy way for me to direct add them to a sub group? Can I check their name in the parent group and add them to the sub group?
What if I want to add a few of them, is there a quick way to do this?
Thank you!

Re: Yahoo blocking groups io email? #email

It's been happening sporadically to all email providers that were assimilated by Yahoo (aol.com, etc...) for over a year.

The last two in my lists were Yahoo mail about the same as in the past few months.

That seems to happen at random.? Y! may change something in their spam routine and more messages get misdirected to the spam folder.? If members aren't paying attention and moving those from GIO to their Inbox, the next time Y! automatically empties the spam folder, the problem occurs.? I seriously doubt that it's intentional.

I have deleted the only old membership I have been able to find and he has described to me.? He is still a member under his new membership.? The badge is still there this morning.? Yahoo blocking groups io email? #email

Recently I have started receiving messages that members have been blocked because they or their email service marked an email from groups.io as spam.

I noticed that all of these were users that have Yahoo email addresses.

It makes me wonder if Yahoo is rejecting emails from groups.io.

Yeah I know there will be something to bite me in the derri¨¨re sooner or later; all I can say is that so far it has been successful with all the incoming messages having [email protected] as the sender. I have sent out an "advisory" to "my" group to tell those with btinternet.com addresses about the problem and its potential solution. I check on a few samples of members' email deliveries and the Activity Log revealed the same widespread outbreak of bounces / spam reports starting at the same time. (Overnight 5/6th April)

However, the whole episode threw up another anomaly overnight / this morning (UTC + 1 here!) but that will be raised under a new topic later.

Re: Replying to the sender, not the group

Duane,

Found it! It's been renamed (?) and is
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Footers
No, that's always been its title. I just used "Your Friend, the Footer" in the home page link and in the top paragraph of the page.

That's a me thing: I vastly prefer short URLs with no punctuation (other than hyphens).

Yeah, that unidentified text box at the top of a Wiki page edit I've been calling a Title. But it is really just the page URL - it doesn't even appear on the page except in the breadcrumbs.

But it is also the page's entry in the Pages drop-list, so one needs to be mindful of that: don't pick something so short that you won't recognize it in that list.

Re: Member approval

Janice,

Additional information: this person was already a member under a
different ID and email address but the information displayed on the
member list was his new information.
My guess is that the person merged his two email addresses (accounts). This would have effectively deleted the pending membership and (depending on the direction of merge) left him with a single membership under his new (or old) address.

I did a search and found what I suspected was his old membership. I
contacted him and he said, yes, that was the old membership. I
deleted the old one.
Hmm... That doesn't fit with my guess. Unless you deleted his now sole membership. Is he still a member? Unless he had two old addresses subscribed to your group and merged the other one.

I¡¯m still seeing the badge showing a Pending Member.
There's been a long-standing bug involving accounts that are deleted (or merged) while Pending: that count doesn't get updated.

Re: Member Not Confirmed

Kent,

Only 2 have been marked as NC even though we used the same Invite
format as we did for the others.
Accepting an invitation confirms one's address. So those two must have skipped your invitation and joined by other means. You can check your group's Activity log to see what happened.

Is there a fix to prevent this from happening to other potential
members?
No.

Apart from educating people on the need to respond to Groups.io's confirmation request. Even with a Basic group you can have another one sent to them.

Re: Chronic:: Messages not being delivered.

Chris,

Incoming senders are checked with addresses in the recipient's
(webmail) Contact List and if they are there then it assumes that the
incoming traffic is legitimate.
The fly in that ointment is that each member's post comes From an address unique to that member. Usually the member's own subscription address, but sometimes a munged version of it.
/static/help#dmarc

If the mechanism also checks the Sender address that would work: that's always the group's posting address. You would then only need that address in your Contact List.

From versus Sender is a technical detail that one normally doesn't need to distinguish, but for mail that's been forwarded through a conventional email list they are different.

Re: Member approval

I went to Admin>Members and then on the drop down list I chose Pending. There was a badge indicating there was a Pending Member but no name was listed. I then navigated to the regular member list and there was his name right at the top of the list.
Additional information: this person was already a member under a different ID and email address but the information displayed on the member list was his new information. I received a response to the automatic questionnaire sent out when someone applies for membership. In that response he told me he had been trying to log in to try to change his email address but couldn¡¯t remember how so he applied for a new membership (which some how got approved). The name and email address was not the one he originally joined with. I did a search and found what I suspected was his old membership. I contacted him and he said, yes, that was the old membership. I deleted the old one. I¡¯m still confused about how his new membership got approved. I checked the group activity and it shows when he applied for membership but no approval is listed. I¡¯m still seeing the badge showing a Pending Member.

I'm not sure how it works in full-featured digests
Plain-text digests contain fewer links because the full URL has to be spelled out...including them all would take up too much real estate.

P.S. We used to have a wiki page with screenshots called "Your Friend, the Footer" but it seems to have disappeared.
