Re: Calendar and Timezone Issue #timezone #calendar

Hi Duane,

By the time I started to create a test event today, the timezone has changed to CEST (UTC+2) and it looks like all the timezones have been changed to times like BST (UTC+1) for London and all the US times are EDT, CDT etc. I know that quite a few changes have been made to the ZOOM integration as a result of various issues reported by Andy Wedge in Beta and this may have resulted in this timexzone issue being solved. as well.

It is up to members if they wish to be listed in the directory.?

Members can only view the Directory if a) the group Owner has enabled that feature and b) a member has changed their profile to make themselves visible in the directory.

See the Profile Privacy section in the Members' Manual.? I'd recommend a setting of just Other members of your groups to avoid over-sharing.

That doesn't really give us much to work with.

Am owner or moderator has a complete view of the Members' Directory, even if any individual members have chosen to hide their information in that Directory from viewing by other members. However, in so doing they lose he ability to see the entries for those whose directory entry is viewable; only if one's own entry is viewable can one see the entries of others, and I strongly suspect that that is likely to be the "issue".

As far as I am aware owners and moderators have no means of knowing which entries are "public" and which aren't.

Looks like an error in the docs. To my knowledge No Email subscribers do not receive Special Notices.

A group Owner/Moderator can send a message to a No Email subscriber via the Member List. System messages like "your account is bouncing" or "you've been removed for marking a message as spam," and a handful of the Member Notices (Welcome, Removed Member, etc) will also arrive regardless of the subscription setting. But these are all private messages, not group messages.

This has been corrected.

I'm also in discussion with Mark on about further enhancements to this feature so that it picks up more details from your Zoom account settings when generating the text to go into the calendar. The #zoom hashtag that it adds to a meeting subject line is also not saved in the list of group hashtags.

Email delivery options query

Hi,

In the new member's manual, the section regarding email delivery options states:

Special Notices Only

You receive only the messages that moderators have designated as .

No Email

With this setting, you do not receive any group messages by email. You can still access messages and other group features on the group¡¯s website. You might still receive individual notifications from the group (for example, special notices) and system messages from Groups.io.

If you can still receive special notices when you have selected No Email, what purpose does the Special Notices Only setting serve?

No.? If I need to find those on a particular domain, I do a search for it in the member list.? In the results, only those using the domain will show up.? Then I can click on them to get to their record to check email delivery, then use the back button on the browser a couple of times to get back to the list.? I could also right click on each line and open it in a new tab, then check each of them.

Way to sort members by Email Domain Name

Is there a way to sort the member list by their Email Domain Name? It would be helpful when a domain is rejecting group messages.

Thanks,

Yes, they'll get the Welcome notice if you have created one.

Is Welcome Notice message sent to members added via Direct Add?

I did a quick search of the messages on this group but didn't see this addressed.

If I add a new member by "Direct Add"ing them, will they receive the Welcome Notice message?? Or only the "Direct Add" notice message, assuming I've created one.
Thanks,
Doug

Ok thanks. I basically just wanted to see if there was any automated warning for the payment at all, just so I had time to get rid of photos.

Re: Yahoo blocking groups io email? #email

Why this happens (all the [censored] time!)

A copy-and-paste from (There are other places on the internet that explain this recurring problem. This explanation was chosen at random from a selection of good choices).?

Issue: IP Addresses From Gmail, Yahoo, Etc. Are Getting Blocked

The Problem:?Spam filters appear to be blocking mail being sent from gmail, Yahoo Mail, Outlook.com, etc. ?The error message sent back to the sender usually says something like this:?
?
Why This Is Happening:?Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook.com, etc. offer free email accounts to the public. ?This is a magnet for spammers. ?They sign up for free accounts or they hack into existing ones and then use those accounts to send spam.?When this happens the sending mail servers usually get blacklisted. ?This is because the specific mail server at Google, Yahoo, etc. is sending out so much spam that it gets noticed by one of the major internet blacklisting services and ends up on their published list of bad senders. Lots of companies check these blacklists (including us) and restrict mail accordingly.?
?
You have done nothing to cause this, and neither has the person who sent the message (usually). ?The sender simply had the unfortunate luck to have that particular message routed through a mail server that has been blacklisted.
?
Solutions:
?
Not all mail from Gmail, Yahoo, etc. is getting blocked, only mail passing through servers that are blacklisted. ?Google, Yahoo, etc. use hundreds of mail servers, and at any given time the vast majority are clean. ?When you send mail from Gmail/Yahoo/etc. you don't usually use the same outgoing mail server for every message. ?Your message could be routed through one of many many mail servers.
?
That said, there are two options to consider if you are experiencing this issue:
?
Do nothing. ?These issues usually resolve themselves quickly. ?The folks at Google/Yahoo/etc. usually find the problem in a timely manner and work with the blacklisting organizations to have their IP addresses removed as soon as possible.
?
Whitelist the sending IP address in your spam account. ?If you absolutely need all email from the blacklisted IP address to pass through the spam filter, you might have the ability to whitelist the specific sending IP address. ?Be advised though that this should be a temporary measure because basically you would be allowing all mail from a known spam source to pass through the spam filter and into your inbox. (Whitelisting the sender's domain name or email address would not work in this case because the IP reputation check takes precedence over domain-level or account-level whitelisting.)
?
Note: ?Keep in mind you are doing nothing wrong. ?You shouldn't have to change your policies and put your mail server at risk just to accommodate a system that allows spammers. ?This isn't really your problem, it's the mail provider's problem. ?They should work to fix it, and you shouldn't have to accommodate them.
?
Note to Senders Getting Blocked: ?This issue is not technically your fault (usually). ?You're just using a service where this is bound to happen. ?Free email services are a magnet for spammers and if you share a service with millions of other users, bad things can and do happen. ?A long-term solution to this problem would be to get your own domain and host your email with a reputable provider. This option is not free but it is much more reliable.
?

Re: Yahoo blocking groups io email? #email

Who pays for email ?

You don't actually have to change to another emailer, just don't use the web interface if thats where the problem is with aforementioned buttons

Use Thunderbird or another email client

I only ever go to the web interface to check spam

I still have all but one email accounts with various suppliers I have used over the last 20 years or so, Yahoo, BT, etc

Most I download to Thunderbird

(not aimed at you Chris by the way but to the OP)

On the face of it that would be the sensible thing to do, but it would seem (anecdotally anyway) that many or even most mail providers have their own way of making life difficult for their *paying* customers.
Or perhaps I am just over - sensitive to this possibility, having suffered from it in the last week.

I think that¡¯s a bit facetious, changing email supplier is not a simple solution as anybody knows who tries. You still have to use the current supplier to forward emails to your new address, no supplier is perfect etc. etc. I have had email from Yahoo/BT for 40 years, yep, they have their faults but enough to change.
