I see no point to doing that. I don't buy the idea that it somehow deprives

Whereas I do see value in having the old groups stand as "we've moved"

Fully agree with all you said.

I do have an exception and that is a private list for my wife where US,
UK, AUS and CDN users are only put on be me, upon invitation, and I have
mete them all in person over the years.
Attrition makes the list smaller every year and there is no need to keep
the old one.

Re: invite list has to be approved?

Is that per group or per group owner? I am owner of several groups and could potentially, in a rare situation, want to send more than 20 invites spread over multiple groups. Less than 20 per group, but more than 20 altogether. Obviously I can spread that over multiple days, but it would be good to know what the actual limitations are. In Yahoo the limit was 100 and I know that if I invited 2 to one group and 3 to another it counted as 5 against the total. I'm not sure how it would deal with multiple owners/moderators and multiple groups. That is if I am co-owner with person A in one group and co-owner with person B in another group and I invite 2 people to the first group and 3 to the second and person A invites another 4 people to group 1 and person B invites 6 people to group 2 how many does that constitute with respect to the limits? Is this documented somewhere?

Re: What will you do with your Y! Groups?

I migrated my group from Yahoo to Groups.io a little over a year ago.
?
The Yahoo group still sits there, but any new subscribers are referred to groups.io.? At some point it will be closed but for now to appease the group members it remains open.? There are no new members allowed there or new postings.
?
We have found groups.io much easier to use, as well as more user friendly.? As far as user support, Mark does an excellent job.? I would never want to return to Yahoo Groups.
?
Best Regards,
Doug

No and no.

In fact I'll try to remember to keep my accounts active so that I can continue to "reject with reply" anyone who happens to post in those groups.

I believe so. I sent out 300 envites, the thing had to approve all of the invite list and send it to the valid email addresses.

Take care

Re: What will you do with your Y! Groups?

With several thousand members we wanted to make sure everybody gets the word. So, we will keep our Y! group till the end. Our group homepage there explains that it is now inactive and points people to our new home on Groups.io.

All of our Y! group email auto responders also point to the new group: if someone tries to join the Yahoo group they get an email saying it is inactive and pointing them to the new group. The same if someone quits the Y! group-- the goodbye message contains a link to our Groups.io group in case they don't already know about it.

Also, we put the Y! group under moderation-- if someone tries to post there we send them a notice about our new home on Groups.io.

The Y! group is an archive also. If Yahoo/Verizon/Oath wants to continue it, fine with us.

We would like our members to get rid of their Yahoo Mail accounts however. There are a lot of them and the "unsubscribed due to reporting spam" and the email address mangling in message posts are a constant irritation.

Re: What will you do with your Y! Groups?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

When I set up our new group in groups.io, I devised a plan to attrition the Yahoo group and discussed with my co-moderator. Our plan was to eventually make our Yahoo group still open but inactive. I sent an email announcement to our Yahoo group with our plan, giving them sufficient time to set up an account on groups.io and joining our group. We don't plan to close our Yahoo group but just let it sit there, in case we need to go back to refer to old posts. There is nothing there in our Yahoo group that is THAT important to keep. I have our member list downloaded and any files that we have I have maintained myself. I wanted to post the announcement on the Yahoo banner of our home page regarding our move to groups.io, but with the neo have been unable to make any banner or home photo adjustments. Makes me even more grateful of our move to groups.io and wish we had done it much, much earlier.

I have moved only two small groups.? In one case, I deleted all the members except myself.? This allowed me to catch emails sent by non-subscribers (which was allowed on that group), alert those specific non-subscribers to the new address and forward those messages to the new group on groups.io.? In the other case, I was able to poll all members and delete the yahoo group once they approved of that step.

Our groups are still up because pointers from other places out of our control send folks to the yahoo groups .. more people know about yahoo groups so if they sign up there we can still message them ?and point them to the right place to sign up.

Re: in reviewing the transfer instructions

J,

Watching yahoo groups blow up ...
Reports vary widely. Some users/groups have apparently been unaffected by recent outages while others severely so.

Panic about the sinking of Yahoo Groups has been a recurring theme through the years. But as the fellow in Monty Python and the Holy Grail said: "I'm not dead yet."

Re: in reviewing the transfer instructions

Watching yahoo groups blow up is reminiscent of watching the Deepwater Horizon blow up. I watched the movie last night. It starts small, with some warnings about pressure gauges. Some people ignore them, others are alarmed but no one listens. Then, shoots of oil start bursting through, at first small and then larger until the whole ship is awash in them and then the whole thing catches fire....I'm glad I'm outta there!

Re: in reviewing the transfer instructions

In my experience the EMAIL route to invite/join is broken. The invited
member does receive the email but if they just reply to that nothing
else happens and they are not subscribed. But if they click the link in
that email which takes them to the group home page they can then
complete the subscription. Groups.io presumably does that - remember
they know all the ins and outs of yahoogroups. Whatever, invites for
[email protected] clearly do work, many of us have done that recently.

Re: Reply to Message

NYILLogistics,

How do you set the reply to message only to the Sender ?
As a matter of group policy, go to the Settings page and in the "Message Policies" section set the "Reply To" option to "Sender".

If you're talking about replying to an individual message it does depend on the group policy (as above) and whether you're replying via the group's Messages section or via your email interface.

Assuming the group is set to "Group", and replying via the Messages section, click Reply then look below the reply composition box and to the right. Click the "Private" button. That will change the green "Reply to Group" button to a blue "Reply to Sender" button. When you're ready to send your reply click that blue button.

Assuming the group is set to "Group", and replying via your email interface, the details may depend on what email interface you're using. In Thunderbird, for example, I would copy your address in the From field of your message, click reply, then paste your address into the To field of my reply, replacing the group's address.

Because your email address is modified for DMARC, I then have to delete the "@groups.io" part and replace the = sign with an @ sign. That is, convert:
user = example.com @ groups.io into
user @ example.com

I do not want the reply to set to the entire group
