Re: Apparent sudden abandonment of a list?

I know who that ONE person saying that but SHE couldn't keep it closed because she is being flooded by subscription notices.

Re: Time Zone #time zone #time

Hi - I seem to have a similar problem. I have (in order):
  • set the default sub time zone (to London)
  • invited a couple of members
  • accepted the invitations (these are test addresses of my own)
If I send a few messages around and log in as one of those members the messages all have (I am guessing) Pacific time - for example a message sent/received at 17:03 London time shows a 9:03. I've double and triple checked and the groups settings for sub defaults are definitely set to London/Dublin etc, not the default.
Any ideas?
Richard

I suggested that your own email preferences be set to HTML editor through Account, Preferences in Groups.io. That would give you want you want, I believe.

There has been discussions about forcing HTML for all your subscribers.
This thread, for example ?-?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/27598

About downsides -?

Force HTML - If you check Force Html, every message going out will be in html, and will have the html-styled footer. The plain-text digest will be disabled.?

I do like Force HTML because I think the footers work well.

Hi Frances - thanks - looks like you've nailed it. I changed the preferences for the group to force HTML emails and I am now getting the footer I expected (critical for my application as I want to make it easy for people to reply to the sender rather than the whole group if they want to).

Thanks, Richard

Re: Stop Reply All sending to Sender AND Group?

Sorry - let's try again - maybe it doesn't like the urls. The footer is either like this:

Or basically the same but with the urls fully expanded and looking horrible (same email client, same email account, same thread).

And then once I got this (which is what I thought it should be):

View/Reply Online (#20) | Reply To Group | Reply To Sender | Mute This Topic | New Topic
?
Your Subscription | Contact Group Owner | Unsubscribe [email address]

Hi Richard,

What is your own subscription setting?

And in your account preferences (top right corner on your group homepage, second menu item), what is your editor preference?
Mine is HTML. So I get all tools in the wiki, etc.

And then check out this page on email footers:

You could make a note on your home page description. Alter it back later after all is complete. That is viewable by everyone, member or not. Edit in Admin, Settings.

Just curious how your situation was resolved, Jim.? I'm wondering because I blew it myself just now.? Deleted the wrong group!? So you're not alone.

I'd been trying to delete two testing groups (which had been created more than a year ago and served their purpose), but during a month of multiple attempts, nothing happened -- the groups remained in my pull-down menu.? I wanted the testing groups gone because one of them had a name very similar to the one that I accidentally deleted, which was a fear that ultimately came true, argh!

Re: Stop Reply All sending to Sender AND Group?

Thanks for the replies. I am now confused again though... I am getting the following footer:

It doesn't include reply to sender (I haven't removed other options and have set the reply-to back to Group). I have managed to get an email with the links as Frances indicated but only once. All I'm doing is replying to the group. Any ideas? Is it a timing thing? Does it take a few minutes for the group to settle down after the first members are added maybe? I've been adding and removing a couple of users repeatedly to test the configuration so maybe that's upsetting it?

Thanks,

Richard

Mod's note: no footer

You can find the info in Admin, Members. Pull down Members button - but that info isn¡¯t pushed to owners.?

The member can see in their subscription and they get an email as well as a banner notice on the group home page. It is mostly the member that needs to take action - click on a link in the email. They can also see all their bouncing in the top right Account (their name), in Recent Bounces).

As a moderator or owner, I wouldn't want to get a notification about all member soft bounces. Not necessary. It might be useful when Groups.io has stopped trying to send bounce probes - when Groups.io has given up.

As far as I can determine, there isn't one.? It seems to be part of the package used for TOC programming.? To get the same look without the numbers, you'd need to format everything manually.

Owner of Group..

I am listed as the owner of the group on the group member list but do not have owner access - this is the only group I am having this problem with - am the owner of about 30 groups and am only having this problem with one of them.

I also noticed, that even though I am a member of this group, it is not listed on my subscriptions list.

Any idea how I can get owner access to a group I actually own?

Thanks,
Margery

I know we're a bit off topic here, but Tool Tips does sound like a better plan.? It's arduous and time consuming, though.

Thanks to all for your help.? I think we can close this topic.

Kinda.

You can set email delivery at the time of Direct Add by appending the single word digest, summary or nomail after each entry. See attached screenshot. If you leave the delivery option blank, new subscribers will be assigned whatever is established in your group's Default Sub Settings (click the button at top of your Settings page).

If appending the word is clumsy and hard to automate, you can change your group's Default Sub Settings to digest and add all your digest members, then change the default to individual emails and add all those people, etc.

There is no way to similarly set a member's Role field. Subscribers will have to be promoted to Moderator after they've been added.
