Re: Completely edit default messages for invites, direct add, etc

Is there something that can be done about this? ?It seems like the default messages do not meet the needs of many group owners. ?

For me, they are too long and emphasize things that are not important to the way that my members will be using Groups.io. ?

Why are we forced to use these defaults??

Re: Yahoo extended deadline for content download

Has anyone actually used a Yahoo download to move a group? If so, any hints?

Also, is the PG message upload utility fully operational now?

Re: Comcast problems again?

I had a similar situation with Roadrunner email and the solution was
also similar. I had the option in the email setup on their web site to
have them mark in the subject line SPAM for those messages they
thought were spam but send them on to me and NOT put them in a spam
folder. I use an email client on my PC and occasionally see SPAM on
the subject line. As often as not, the email is not spam.

That was happening after they made a change a few years ago and I lost
some emails that way. I no longer have the problem.

Now I get all messages and I do the choosing of what's spam and what's
not. I don't mind the SPAM appended to some subject lines as it gives
me a heads-up to check to be sure.

Just a shot in the dark here, a suggestion to try the next time you do this, as something similar has burned me before and I always do it now, it has become second nature ... ANYTIME I copy an email address from a NON-TEXT email (i.e. HTML or RichText emails like what GIO sends) or from a web page, I paste it first on Notepad, then copy it again but from Notepad now (while fixing anything that needs fixing), as that now guarantees what I copied is just the email address text, and not possibly other embedded info I may not be aware of.

Also, don't just remove any entry from your address book that could be causing this, make sure to also set the "remember reply-to/send-to" setting to OFF as many online email apps or local email client apps will default to ON; when I first started moderating on GIO using email, my Thunderbird "Collected Addresses" book grew up in leaps and bounds with all those GIO approve-pending-message addresses...

Cheers,
Christos

Neither of these people have changed anything on their end, so I tend to think it's Comcast. Anyone know more about this? It is so frustrating for these members. I have advised them to create a new email with Gmail or something else.

Here on GMF, we use the +owner address to exchange information, questions, or ideas.? There's usually not that much, so not a problem for us.? We also have a database that can only be accessed by moderators with some notes in it.? Only 9 rows, so again, no problem.

If you want to keep a "large" amount of information available, then a subgroup might be the way to go.? You would have the messages, but could also set up a wiki if you want.? Lots of options on GIO, so 'outside the box' thinking may find other ways.

I believe, and I have no proof of this,? but as you add directly Groupsio builds a groupsio account as you go.? So between the invite and the member acceptance,? groupsio has everything it needs to create an account for that member.? At least that is the way it seems like it is working for me.
Anyone that's a member of a group has an account.? They won't initially have a password (and really don't need one if they don't want.)

As far as Direct Adds (or Invites), you can enter them all at once.? There will be a delay if more than 20, but often only a couple of hours.

That depends on what you mean by email information". Check that the address from which your member is sending is the one that is registered with your group/Groups.io.

As has been discussed here several times, that can't be done.? All you can do is add the customized message.

The OPs comment about the Invite option below the optional message box, which doesn't appear to perform any function, hasn't been addressed.
The Invite message is another member notice that you have to create.

New owner help please #howto

Good Evening,

I have just moved over from Rootsweb and it's a massive learning curve. However, I am in love with groups.io. I have had a quick search but can't find what I need.

1. A member has asked about replying when he is on summary mode...."Do not reply to this email. To ... reply to a topic click the subject." But then couldn't see any obvious Reply button."?I note that some of my membership are showing as Summary and some as?Summary [R]? please could someone explain the difference and how the subscriber replies to messages from summary (not that I really understand how he can see what he is replying to from summary mode)

2. A member has reported regarding posting an image that "it only seems to accept jpgs, as I found when I tried a bmp [no error message, just nothing happens]" again I could find nothing about image types that would be accepted and which (if any) would not.?

Many thanks for any support you can offer and apologies for the fact you have probably already answered these questions a million times.

Best wishes,

Sherry Landa

Yes, an important distinction between "directory" and members list.
The Admin, Members, is a complete list. Viewable by owner and those moderators with the proper permission.

Directory only lists those group members who wish to appear in the directory and only viewable by those who appear in the directory.

Rootsweb on my list #rootsweb

LINDA MERLE

Hi folks,? some member subscribed herself as the name of my rootsweb list.? So everything was cross posting. On the rootsweb side it went into moderation as my groups.io list is not a member of that list. I was getting 5 emails for every post to Groups.io.....Thought maybe I had done it somewhere in the Settings (or Groups.io is psychic!)? Finally found it.? Removed it.? A few hours later the person added it back.? I found her on the rootsweb list with her real email address and sent her an email, then banned the name of my rootsweb list.? If I migrate another list the first thing I will do is bann the name of the old list to avoid it happening.

Just an FYI... And now we have a rootsweb tag.
