I have also completely changed our YG Homepage to say we have moved and how to join our group on IO.
?
So if someone is curious enough to maybe go to YG and look at our homepage (wondering why things are not working right, if they didnt read my email, or get it, or it went to spam), they can find the link to join us at IO from there.
?
Thanks for your suggestion

YES!? The subject was originally brought up about 18 months ago, but has been on the back burner, .? I revived it a few days ago due to some confusion I had, and voila!? Gotta watch out for Mark, he loves to 'fix' little things without making an announcement.? I'm sure it will show up in the #changelog on Friday.

Moderating messages

I seek clarification.? In the settings for our group I set that all messages would be moderated.? But I note that in the individual members profile, the moderating?is set at:?

Override: new user moderated

Which governs.? Must I reset each individuals profile or does the group profile govern?

Re: navigating page numbers

Win,
?
I had received a lengthy posting from one of our members on this very topic last night.? He asked if there was a way to just JUMP to a page number vs. the click on the arrows forward and back.? Many sites offer an input box right next to the page number like yours shows as 31.? It would be to the left.? Then the numbers and arrows on each side.?? I thought, how clever that I didn't notice GroupsIO not having this ability.
?
My only solution to give to all of our members was, there is a search button at the top. Click on it and enter a keyword to search for.?
?
At Yahoo Groups there was a weird way to narrow down the search.? Knowing the year and month allowed you to pick on the area when a message was posted back in time.? It's very quirky at best.? The funny thing is, GroupsIO uses the SAME type of system at the bottom of the main page to the group.?
?
Back in the days of CompuServe and Prodigy message systems in use, each started thread had an unique ID number as well as the subject line.? If you knew the ID number, no matter where you were in the system, it would immediately place you there when clicked on or entered in the search field.? The pre-Internet era had some decisive and quick tools like this in the day because nobody in their right mind would spend HOURS looking for a few mere pages on 2400bps modems.? Now, here is the neat part.? GroupsIO has the ability to JUMP to a Message Number.?? So, rather than focus on a certain page number, look at the message number you had left off at.? :)

This sure beats making dozens of bookmarks in a browser and then having to figure out what bookmark took you where.

Message not via Groups.io

I've just received - I found it in my spam folder - a message which was not from '~ via Groups.io' but 'via []' (open and close square brackets): checking the 'raw message', this matches what is in the 'From' field, "~ via []" <~=yahoo.co.uk@[]>

Other than that, all seems in order: it's in the message archive, and activity log (as via web). Any ideas on this?

Jeremy

prepended [Special] label

I have noticed starting today that messages marked as "Special Notice", whether through a hashtag with that attribute or by marking them as special when sending from the group web page, get the label [Special] prepended to their subject line. I hadn't noticed this before. Is this a new thing?

No because it would not go out to people set to no email, admin only email or digest email.? All of those have been disabled in YG.? Only the members set to individual emails would get the message.

I did send a message on the last day digest people would get it.? So those with individual and daily digest got it but admin messaging ability was already taken away.? And I didnt realize digest people wouldn't get anything anymore until the day I did it.? Lucky I did it then and I've tested that since and they dont get anything.

Unless you deleted the Yahoo group wouldn't it be simpler to post the message/invite to the Yahoo group? Preface with 'If you haven't already joined us at groups.io ' perhaps? Late to the discussion I know but just a thought.

Barry; Duane makes a good point. Have you examined your Activity Log? If not then it is definitely time to do so to determine the sequence of what actually happened rather than assuming the sequence of events. I'm not suggesting that you got it wrong but the log will give you a much clearer picture.

Bruce also made a good point when he wrote In my groups(s), behavior along these lines will get someone placed on permanent moderation, and possibly banned. If your member persists in doing the sort of thing you describe despite requests not to than IMHO he should have been put on moderation long ago.

Re: Missing Daily Summary Deliveries #access

If messages have been posted to the group, a summary should have been sent.

A few thoughts:
1. Double-check their email delivery setting to be sure it isn't No Email (i.e.: don't assume that they know it).
2. Have them check their spam/junk mail folders to see if they landed there.
3. Check if these people share the same mail provider, which may point to a common problem with that provider.
4. Have these folks check for bounces themselves at?/account?page=bounces. Bounces will not visible to you if they occurred with deliveries from another group.
5. Is it possible they have muted an ongoing topic/hashtag that's hogging all the group traffic right now?

I admit I'm kinda shooting in the dark. Hope something in here helps.

Bruce

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I checked that.

Yes, there have been messages sent to the list on 1/4, 1/5, and today (1/6).

Thanks,

Missing Daily Summary Deliveries #access

Hi,

I received a problem report from one of the users of my lists that they have not received their Daily Summary email for the last couple of days.

Checking their Email Delivery History shows that they last successfully received a summary on 1/4, and there are no bounces since then. We checked a couple of other users who are also getting Daily Summaries, and it looks like they haven't gotten one since 1/4 either.

Any ideas why that might be? Is there a way to see if the daily summaries were generated?

Thanks,

Sam Kamens

Re: User name

One use that our group found very helpful with Display Name is to see respondent's vote in the poll results.?

[Moderator Note: Display Name and User Name are not the same thing.]

This is one reason a Restricted Group may use a "Pending Subscription" Member Notice is to ask for a person's real name to fill in for their Display Name (in case it is not done automatically or accurately).
A Member can always change it (to a nickname or whatever), so you may want to also put it in a Member's Notes to have a record of it (to change back).
? Admin > Members > click on Member's row > click on Notes button

You can also send a message to an unidentified Member asking for their name, but I prefer the leverage of getting before subscription approval than removing a Member. I would never allow an unidentified Member to post messages.

I'm not sure I understand this.? If he's not a member, but you allow non-members to post, his messages would have gone to moderation. If you don't allow non-members to post, it would have been rejected.? The only way around this that I know of would be to have the email addresses of every member in the To: or Cc: list.? Are you sure it's the non-member's posts that are coming through?? Could it only be the member's replies to the non-member?? If one of your members uses Reply All, that would send it to the group where it would be accepted if they're not moderated.? We've done some testing and what you describe can't happen, so there's another reason.

Just FYI, and to be complete, there's nothing he can do to keep you from getting messages that go through the group.

It is noticeable because he has been a frequent sinner in the past.
As I said before I can put him on Moderation yet again.
Could you have set up a mail filter for this guy to block his messages and subsequently forgotten that you did so?

That's the only explanation I can offer.

Would that do it?
