See this wiki page. You might try Lena's free Perl script. Option 1 in?Uploading a message archive.

Re: mbox upload - dates are missing #mbox #ioimportpl

One other bit of learning to pass along: if GIO detects spam, it will reject the message with a non-descriptive 500 error. To fix, edit and remove the spam from the mbox file. Subtract one from the imported.txt count and start ioimport.pl again.

Re: Members are unable to join our group -

Yes, when I copied the email address from your group homepage, I got the expected result from Groups.io

The mystery is solved! Simply a typo.

Responding to Julia's question: after opening the record of the person to be made a moderator, click on the window "Role". It offers three options: Owner, Moderator, and Member. Select moderator. Please direct your owner to this wiki page. No need to be a member of GMF (or indeed, not necessary to have an account with Groups.io):

/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Promotion%2C-Status-or-Permissions-Change-to-Moderator-or-Owner

If you want to or need to handle subgroups, you need that approval. The owner may not want to give you this permission, especially if you are not a member of the subgroups.

There is a list of privileges.?
You need #1-13 if you are expected to help members.
Also you need to tweak your email in subscriptions so you get appropriate emails.
Email when there are messages needing approval. - need
Email when there are members needing approval. - need
Email when a member joins/leaves this group.
Email when group storage limits are reached.
Email when someone creates or deletes a subgroup.
Email when someone reports a message. - need

Your other question -?

Now my question:? One of our moderators says he cannot see the Direct?Add button under the Admin button when expanded. All he says he can?see are the following four:? Pending? /? Members? /? Subgroups? /?Activity

Direct Add is part of premium for a main group OR is part of a?Subgroup even if not premium. But if the person doesn't have permission to deal with subgroups, they won't. Just like they won't see Integrations.

The main thing - have your owner look at the?wiki page!

You cannot set your own permissions. The Owner will have to open your subscription record and set that for you.

See screenshot. This must be done separately for the main group and each subgroup.

Yes, on a per subscriber basis.

Did you mean that the subscriber/member can do that or that the moderator can do that or that the owner could do that.

All of the above.

An Owner (or Moderator with the "Set Member Subscription Options" permission) can open anyone's member record (Admin>Members) and change message delivery by clicking the appropriate box in the "Email Delivery" block. If you are a Moderator and can't do this, it's because you haven't been given that permission.

Any subscriber can set?their own?email delivery preference it by clicking on Subscription on the left-side menu bar, or by sending one of the email commands listed on the home page ([email protected], etc).

There is no way to keep Subscribers from doing this, so there is no way to enforce a particular message delivery groupwide.

I think the advice given the other day has real merit.
Send a post or two to your members from the proper group address.
That email address should be saved by their email client.

And of course, they *can* look at the homepage of the group. The post email address is there.
I know many are reluctant to use the group web interface though.

Re: display name

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

On Premium groups, the owner or authorized moderators can change the display name of the member?for just?that group, and it doesn't change it for any other group. Of course the member can do this as well. I don't know if that resets if a member later changes their own display name in their personal settings.

When a member joins the group, it appears that the member list sometimes populates the members' display name field automatically, along with their email ID.
When someone joins a group, the site uses the name associated with the email address, if possible.? If there's not one or the person decides not to set one, the first part of their email address is used on messages, but is not populated in their record.? Each user can change their Display Name at any time.

Re: Gmail List subscribers, list and +owner addresses #gmail

Just a followup:

I didn't feel that I could tell folks not to auto-save contacts, because many of them wouldn't want to, or wouldn't be able to figure out how. Plus they would probably still have the wrong contact saved already.

Instead I suggested that my users create a specific contact for the list address, so they can use that to send list messages. If you want to see the text of the FAQ that I wrote for the group, you can find it here:

Thanks,

Sam

You don't have the proper moderator permissions to do anything else.? It would be up to the group owner to decide if they want to give those to you.
