Re: Gmail List subscribers, list and +owner addresses #gmail

Just a followup:

I didn't feel that I could tell folks not to auto-save contacts, because many of them wouldn't want to, or wouldn't be able to figure out how. Plus they would probably still have the wrong contact saved already.

Instead I suggested that my users create a specific contact for the list address, so they can use that to send list messages. If you want to see the text of the FAQ that I wrote for the group, you can find it here:

Duane,

What are the ¡°moderator Permission¡± options and where will the owner find those??? He thought he was making me moderator of the subgroup just as he made me moderator of the ¡°Main¡±.

You don't have the proper moderator permissions to do anything else.? It would be up to the group owner to decide if they want to give those to you.

When someone joins a group, the site uses the name associated with the email address, if possible.? If there's not one or the person decides not to set one, the first part of their email address is used on messages, but is not populated in their record.? Each user can change their Display Name at any time.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Bruce,

?

You said that options for email receipt can be set independently on the subgroups versus main.? Did you mean that the subscriber/member can do that or that the moderator can do that or that the owner could do that.

?

I am a moderator of my group DesertFlowers.

?

What I have is a group with a ¡°Main¡± and a subgroup called ¡°init¡±

?

Is that clear or do I need to say more to define the situation.

?

I go into groups.io and get the following screen:

?

?

?

If from main, I go to admin and select a member to manage, then go to that member, I see an email settings to select options in.

?

?

But if I go into init subgroup, and there is no option for members, only an option to look at activity.? NO settings tab.? Nothing.

How does one accomplish the independent setting of email receive settings that you indicated was possible?

?

Is my question clear??

?

That is not correct. The subscription options (including message delivery) are independent.

Do I understand correctly that if one wants two subgroups to have different email settings, that is only possible by setting up two groups, not trying to use sbugroups.

It is not possible...period.

display name

When a member joins the group, it appears that the member list sometimes populates the members' display name field automatically, along with their email ID. is there a way for the Display Name field to be automatically populated? thanks

Re: Making Subgroups

I have searched and searched trying to find a way (as moderator) to set subscription settings to the subgroup.? I found the settings that enable setting email choices (indivudal, digest, etc) for the Main list, but there appears to be no option to set the email settings to the subgroup.? Yet above uou say"Everyone who is a member of both the primary and the subgroup will receive messages from both the primary and the subgroup. Subject to their subscription settings (which are separate - they can be digest in one and individual in the other).

Um, yes.

[S]o?I changed one of the members of the main group to receive no email and then went to the subgroup in the hopes of setting this person in the subgroup to receive emails, but there is no option for this.
There should be. Enter the subgroup, open that person's member record (Admin>Members), and change his entry using the radio buttons in the Email Delivery block.

So I'm trying to figure out the workaround.

Seems like what I need to do is setup a second subgroup with the email settings (digest, individual, etc) established in the main group.? It seems that there is no option for different email settings for a given person in the subgroups.

Seems like if I want to have my subgroups have different email settings, I have to create a new group with different email settings and not try to use a subgroup.

Is that correct?
Digest/individual/etc are not group settings, they are subscription settings. There is no way to force everybody in a [sub]group to receive (for example) a digest.

I hope this helps, because I really don't yet understand what you're trying to do.

The notification goes to everyone having the "Email when there are members needing approval" checkbox ticked in their subscription record.

if so, it possible for more than one manager to send an approval? - which could be confusing to the applicant?
Only the first one actually approves the applicant and sends him a notification. If someone else attempts to do the same after he's already been approved, that second attempt returns a 500-level delivery error to the Owner/Mod, but nothing to the applicant.

Yup, Ed. Same & same! That's what made it so odd.

And so far since my posting last followup to this thread the Guidelines message in question has remained corrected.

So it may well have been that my compu was reading from some older cache info.

As Duane said... no.

However, it is worth pointing out that there is a "Calendar" tab at the left - hand side of every page; is it really too much trouble for your members to use it? One click and there's the Calendar.

This has the advantage that (assuming that your group is in the public listing) you can set your group up so that the Calendar is not visible to non - members, which you and your members might prefer. If you do want non - members to be able to see it then you can set the Calendar permission accordingly.

Calendar Display on Home Page?

Greetings -

I'm wondering whether there is a way to display the activity calendar on the group's home page. If so, how? Can anyone point me to instructions?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Members are unable to join our group -

Alan,

When a message is sent to [GROUPNAME][email protected]
they get a message from MAILER-DAEMON@... ...
...
Why is Yahoo sending this message?
These must be members using Yahoo Mail - that's the only way they would get a message from Yahoo.com's mailer daemon.

Yahoo is not involved at all.
Yahoo Groups is not, but Yahoo Mail evidently is.

that says "We are unable to deliver your message to the following
address ...
You left out the important part -- the address that would have been cited.

"510: 5.1.1 That group does not exist"
That would be the error response that Groueps.io gave to Yahoo Mail when the delivery failed.

However, it does exist.
It might, but that doesn't mean that the would-be subscriber spelled its name right. Very carefully check the address cited in the error returned by the mailer daemon.

The subscribe request may come from Gmail or AOL or other email
source.
In which case it would have been some other mailer daemon giving the error return.

If this is the problem, Apple users can delete the old YG email address from their Apple email program. In Window, Previous Recipients. Just delete the old address there. It won't automatically fill in the old YG email address.

If they use Gmail, see??
Delete there.

I would assume there are similar strategies for other interfaces.
