Re: Members are unable to join our group -

When I send a message to [groupname etc.] the first address on my mailer's list is the oldest, i.e., the yahoogroup version of the list. I need to be careful to NOT accept the first address the mail program throws up but to continue to type in enough letters to get the correct address.

Might I suggest that you a) inform your members that they need to double check that their mail is going to io and not Yahoo, or b) insert a URL they can click on and warn them to use only that address, or c) in some other manner alert them to being aware of sending to io groups and not yahoo.

I AM aware of this anf occasionally still make that mistake, so it's not easy; we need to be diligent ourselves and make life easy for those who are not always on the alert for a mis-adressed email.

Some of us are older than others and far too often give in to doing things by rote that we've done for years. Please try to warn us when we're likely to get caught by the changes.

Sandy

I did this once, but now I cannot figure out how to make a member a moderator, and io Help does not seem to have this sort of category of help.? Help!

You say "when a message is sent..." - that email should be a blank email sent to that email address.
Not a post. That email address is just an automated request to join the group. That is a rejection notice of the post.

Once they are approved as members, they send to [GROUPNAME]@groups.io

I'd bet that they're either sending it to Yahoogroups.com/Yahoo.com or using a minus - instead of a plus + before the subscribe part.? These are common problems for folks that have been on YG and are now using GIO.? A simple work-around is to have them click on the Join link on the home page your group.

Nothing in the Welcome email comes from the page description except for the initial generation for a new group.? After that, you have to edit it yourself.

The default depends on how you get there.? If the last view you had was Messages, then you DON'T want to use the overview page, /groups, to get there since it's hard coded for Topics.? Use the drop down box for Your Groups at the top and it will stay in the last view you used; Topics, Messages, Expanded, or Polls.

Set my own Max Attachment Size to 500MB [maybe too small].

Uploaded the file to Files for others to fetch if they want to.

Informed the Group How to change Max Attachment Size.

Set? the Group to allow Members to do File uploads. [prepared to revoke that].

I am happy to say that I was able to figure this out for myself with reference to Help and GMF and thinking it through in terms of "designed by Mark". ?

You say "welcome email text" and "group description text on the site homepage".
There is a welcome notice you can tweak in Admin, Settings, Member Notices. You must also make it active. (It might be active by default but there should be a "active" tag in the list of notices.) This is sent out automatically to new members of your group.

There is also the group description on the site homepage. The save button is way way down at the bottom of the page.

Both change immediately.

As for group description, you might want to check out what shows in the publicly listed groups list, if you have opted for inclusion. -?/search?p=SubsCount,,,20,2,0,0
Some of us have tweaked the description to make sure that keywords retrieve your group.

Very strange. I just now checked my Posting Guidelines (via the Guidelines button in the Left-hand sidebar) and the updated text has now reverted back to the text with the typo in it. I have no idea why this might happen but I'm now at a complete loss for how to resolve this.

Perhaps this is being caused by a glitch of some sort.
