Re: Duplication of photos in "Emailed Photos" folder

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I would like to delete the excess images, but that deletes the reply post also. (unless I leave 1 photo behind)? I don't normally reply from the website and I looked at the reply options there and I didn't see an easy way to stop the quoted text from being included unless it is by the show/hide quoted text.?? If the default is to hide and you need to affirmatively click "show" to make this problem happen, my users must be doing this and getting them to stop should be the solution.?

If that is the way to keep this from happening, that can be a tedious exercise for messages in long posts though.

Yep.

? I have noted it with posts from those who post from the group website.
I don't think that matters. If whoever replies fails to strip the image, the disease spreads.

Is there a way to stop this duplication, perhaps through the "reposting" settings?
No, although it gets mentioned in beta in a regular basis. Most recently . You can go there and give the notion a bump if you want.

Mike -- I suggest you create a subgroup and practice with that until you get things working the way you want.

Subgroups are easily deleted, thousands of messages are not.

Re: mbox upload - dates are missing #mbox #ioimportpl

I too am using ioimport.pl and am having some success. I understand that there is a newly-released version 5, and I will download it and use it.

I have several questions:
1. I see the needchange.txt file. Of ~2500 subscribers, I have ~270 entries in this file. Do I need to resolve all issues in this file for the program to succeed? What happens if I don't?
2. I got an error when I tried to use the map.txt file. I tried with both a comma and a space.

I want to import 10K+ messages, and would prefer to only do this once. :-)

Thanks very much to Lena for creating and assisting with this program!

Mike

Including images in the body of a message, and not just as an attachment. #images

I need to put an inline image into an email sent out to the groups. When I try, it's put in as an attachment and not as part of the message.

I know when my SquareSpace site sends an email via RSS, the image is included in line.

I've tried doing it via the webpage, and get a JSON unexpected EOF error. I've tried JPG, PNG, and PDF.

Reinstating A Member Who Got Removed For Marking A Message Spam

One of my members was removed from two of my groups.? The notification says for marking messages as spam.? He says he does nog know what he did to cause this.? He wants the group messages and is unhappy about being removed.

He has sbcglobal email so they may have done the spam marking.? He says he did not.??

I told him he should have received a message with links to get added back.? But I am not sure he will find them.? He is older and says he is no longer as computer savvy as he once was. Dealing with problems like being removed because a message was marked as spam is a difficult challenge for senior citizens of very advanced years.? Many of my members are in their mid to upper eighties, but they love keeping up with their groups.

Should I send new invites and direct add him to the group that was premium.? Did groups.io remove his whole website account or just remove him from my groups?

Can he use the same account he had if I direct add and send invites?Sent

Thanks!? I am hoping he finds the notices with links to be reinstated.? But he may not have received them.? He did not know he had been removed until I contacted him.
Will the links add him back to his groups or will he have to join again??

Differences in footer look between normal and GIO-sent messages #footer

Hi folks,

Before I bring this up on beta, does anyone in here know if the footer is supposed to look differently when one uses the online interface to send a direct message to a user versus a normally posted/replied-to group message?

In the former case this is how it looks, note the [ For more info ...] text (custom group-specific text added by us) is at the top:

[ For more help on using our group visit /g/AMD/wiki/Group-Help ]

Groups.io Links:

Contact Group Owner
Terms Of Service

versus the normal footer:

Groups.io Links:

You receive all messages sent to this group.

| Reply To Group | Reply To Sender | Mute This Topic |

[ For more help on using our group visit /g/WingsofPeace/wiki/Group-Help ]
| Contact Group Owner |

(also note in this case how the two horizontal lines that I guess are supposed to highlight our custom-added text are centered on the page's width, not left-justified as in the text-only version of this footer***, or non-existent as in the direct-message version.)

If this was done intentionally, does anyone know why?

Cheers,
Christos

Yahoo hasn't been up to date with bouncing for a few years, so it's not unusual to get some percentage of those after a transfer.

Re: A couple of questions

You don't need to send a new invitation to people. From the "Sent Invitations" page you can select any that haven't been accepted and then resend them with the Actions button. I like to send emails to people I'm inviting BEFORE sending the invitation. That way they know to look for it (sometimes in their spam folder) and respond to it, and if they don't see it they hopefully will let me know.

Question re Yahoo Group emails

Deborah A.

I moderate a Yahoo group & have done so for years.? Since the change I have been unable to get my own emails to post on the group.? If someone else posts I see it but many hours later.

Also, is there any way now to view on the group webpage discussions/emails that are being sent?

If addresses are bouncing the invites will bounce too and the associated failure error will be displayed in Sent Invitations.

so are they blacklisted or do i have to then white list every e-mail address, so it goes to my in box, at present, have to login, go to the barrier free, as more simpler and works with screen readers like Jaws.

never seen this before, might have maybe clicked on the mail check or mail collector by mistake.

if any one has used mail.com, and maybe encountered this issue, hwo to fix, very annoying, have to go to spam, then select all the messages, then move to inbox, don't have to do this extra steps. any ideas. very weird.

marvin.
Marvin,

mail.com has the ability to whitelist by domain. I think you just need to follow their instructions.

By adding an address or domain to your whitelist, email from this source is automatically saved to your inbox and is not checked for spam. Since email addresses that are saved to your Contacts list are automatically saved to your inbox folder, we recommend that all whitelist addresses that you wish to receive emails from are also saved in your Contacts.

Re: A couple of questions

Hi Eric,

"First, when adding members I have several that have Yahoo records with no name, merely an email address. Do I load the email address and does it require the brackets (<>). Nothing for the name."

It has been over a year since, using the auto transfer, I moved a couple of Yahoo Groups to Groups.io. At that time, there were over 50 members out of ~500 yahoo emails that were no longer in service. These were ID'd by bouncing and I checked all of them by sending them emails and getting a bounce. That number is now 105 in a group of 926, the vast majority being Yahoo mail. My point being that if you are trying to add members who's emails are dead, the report may have a problem. Unless you know that all of the emails are active, you might sent them an email to see if they are bouncing.

They were not bouncing in the Yahoo Group. It is odd that Yahoo didn't identify them as such.

Good Luck,
Paul, Ohio, USA

Click the "Sent Invitations" button at the top of the Invite page.

In order to do this, I need to know when the report goes >poof<.
They never go >poof< unless you delete them. We have active invitations here in GMF dating from 2014.
