Re: Capturing Yahoo Member Lists

John,

I was able to download active and bouncing members on a 4500+ list (Doculink on YG, if you want to confirm) by using YahooMembersApplication:

It's a Chrome App, and those aren't really supported anymore (at least, I couldn't get them to work), so you may need a Chrome extension to run this app. I used Apps, which is basically a shortcut to your Chrome apps:

It was all fairly straightforward. This was all last week. And I used PGO to grab the groups last 15,000 messages...

BTW, it's a bit non-obvious how to do this. The process is two-step: Download; then Export to Excel.

BUT, it only seems to work for the active members. I'd also like to download the bouncing list, but that doesn't seem possible.

You can capture the entire member list including all of the fields displayed on the "Manage Members" page, by saving that page as a *.txt file from your browser (Cntl-S). Obviously one has to have moderator status to view the member list.

Note: This only captures the info in raw form. Use a plain text editor to extract and reformat it

Re: Owner really messed up and got dropped #changeemail

I did not think of loosing content but messages I sent in all three groups seem to be still there.? I had not done any photos so no worries there.

To be sure I only deleted the errant addresses and I could not have sent any messages with that anyway.? I guess I was tied to the correct addresses though since I had done the change address but as I said, all messages are still in place.? Guess that makes sense as even when members drop out of a group, their items remain archived.

Bottom line is all seems to be working fine in all three of my groups (only one of which I own) and nothing seems lost.? I am eternally grateful to the GMF for the assistance and leading to the resolution of this.? I only gained a few more gray hairs.

Alex,

BTW, when I state we are moments away of Yahoo Going DARK.? So will PG Offline 4 !!!!!? It will no longer FIND Yahoo Groups the way we know it at present.

Re: "CHANGE: We are no longer accepting new Yahoo Group transfer requests"?

Alex,

Ah, I hope you got EVERYTHING from YG NOW.? And I do mean NOW.

WHY?

YG will be going DARK today.? Not sure if it's 12-noon or 12-midnight Eastern Time Zone.

We are no longer moments to the clock striking 12-midnight, we are now SECONDS away.?

I tried sending a subscribe email to a group I'm already in.? A bit surprisingly, I got nothing back, nor any notice in the logs.? The only time you'd see an entry would be if they didn't already have a subscription.? I'd have that member check the spam/junk folder since they're shown to be getting emails.

It looks like you'll have to do them individually.? The MemberID, in this case 7237133, isn't included in any of the downloadable information as far as I can tell.

If you're only seeing your messages online, then no one else is sending messages to the group.? The only time you'd see only yours would be if you clicked on the "All Messages By This Member" option.

A person can't join a group with the same email address, not with one that is already subscribed.?
You can see subscription requests in Admin, Activity, Members.

David -- I'm kinda confused by the above, to be honest. But I do suspect the account with the "gmail.net" address may have owned some content, both here and in other groups. The reason I was recommending doing another "change email address" was to avoid losing that.

So be sure to follow up and see if you now need to reassign any photos or files to yourself. As for messages, ownership of those could be irretrievably lost now.

So I am back in business and have two owners (both of which are myself). ?THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. ??
Great! Still, it's odd that this could have happened in the first place.

Is there some setting that I have missed that

First of all, you are logging into the group with your correct email address, I assume.
And you have looked at admin, activity.

But please check your settings in Admin.?
Scroll down to message policies.
You probably have the setting for reply to go to sender. The default is reply to group and that's what I normally have it set to.?
You can also decide whether or not you want to remove other reply settings. (I don't remove other reply settings.)

?Be sure to scroll down and save any changes.

Using an external database for membership

Hi, I am setting up a group for our society, and we use an external database for the members' details.? What I would like to know is there a way of downloading all the URLs for each member on the membership page as CSV, or would I have to do this individually, hopefully, would have about 600 members joining here, so would like to make it as easy as possible.? So that if they leave the society I can easily remove them the group by using the database by clicking on their URL which takes me to their membership page.

This is the URL I am talking about

Can I see if a subscribed member tries to subscribe again?

Hello
A member claims that he hasn't received any e-mails from the group yet, although his activity states that he did receive the most recent mail and isn't bouncing.? He claims to have sent a new subscription request by e-mail yesterday.? Is there any way I can check whether a subscription request was received from him?? Does Groups.io tell someone that they're already subscribed if they try to subscribe while being subscribed, and does this information appear in some or other activity log for the moderator to see?
Thanks
Samuel

Great. I didn't see the messages, or mess with the files, you mentioned in your previous post. I saw the counter run, the application msg present itself. The most difficult bit was remembering to Save the download each time. I kept a text file to record what I did and that helped a lot.

I never managed to log in through PG Offline. I'm reinstalling it to try
one last time if I can make it work. I hope I can use it as a reader,
and get files from others who downloaded some of my groups. I should
have downloaded it months ago. It's a wonderful program, but who

I would heartily say, the members would seem to be, at the base of things, the greatest resource. It was key to get beyond any 1000 item limit.

I found PGO to work, for me, (trial version) with Files (which I also had from the Y! bundle/download) and to grab photos in batches of 20.

While it worked on one account, with another there were failure notes and a suggestion I might have double authentication turned on with Y! I looked, didn't see this and have to consider energy spent against value of the data.

I also tried this downloader, which claims to download everything like
PGO, but after getting two techies involved I still just get 'API query
failed' for files and photos, but when it got to topics it downloaded a
whole bunch of pornographic spam messages (!), and no legitimate posts
from my groups. Others seem to have had better luck:
I considered that, as it would appear to garner one attachments, however I'd not had enough time to learn about Python it seemed, and had to do what I could. It feels sub-optimal however some folks are grateful.

I suspect I'll be spending my Saturday manually downloading files and
photos and any attachments I can get my hands on.

Thanks for all the help and commiseration on this list!

Same for me. Good luck to all.

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

This week's change log:

Because of the holidays, the next #changelog will be posted on
January 10th, 2020.

Have a good holiday season everyone!

Mark
Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

NEW: Integrated with Canny.io to test feature request/tracking.

Posting there is available only to owners/mods of Premium groups (owing to Canny's fees). We hoi polloi may continue posting in beta.

Comments about these others are also welcome:

BUGFIX: Even if a group is configured to allow users to specify new
hashtags (Messages can be tagged with new hashtags), the 'Create
Hashtag' button was not displayed in the Hashtags page for members.
API: Added /newhashtag, /updatehashtag, /deletehashtag endpoints.
API: Added /mutehashtag, /unmutehashtag, /followhashtag, and
/unfollowhashtag endpoints.
CHANGE: Members can only donate to a donation request one time. This
is to prevent accidental duplicate donations (which have happened,
unfortunately).

Please call out any you find significant.

Shal
