Re: Owner really messed up and got dropped
#changeemail
David -- Please read the following very closely and don't do anything until you understand it.
It's my understanding that you have a "gmail.net account" that owns the group. You want to change that to gmail.com, thereby rectifying the problem. To this point, the gmail.net account is not confirmed. Right? I hope so. I just Direct Added your gmail.net account to my group. I could not change that to gmail.com because you already have that address registered with groups.io. So I deleted the subscription. However, this action should have removed your "not confirmed" status. Check it and see. Now...do you have a password set up for this account? If so, you should be able to log in. However, you will NOT be able to change the email address to gmail.com. You'll have to log in separately using your gmail.com address, go to the page at?/account?and click the red "delete my account" button. At that point you should be able to log back in with gmail.net and change it to gmail.com at your leisure. If you don't have a password, I may be able to do this for you, after adding you back again. But you'll still have to get rid of the existing gmail.com account first. I cannot do an account merge for you. Frankly, there's part of me that is hoping I cannot help you. If a group owner is capable of changing the email address associated with the account of another group owner, that strikes me as something of a bug. We'll see how it goes. Bruce |

Re: Using Export Group Data button
Carole,
If I use the export group data button, is the result that aCorrect. The zip file has a copy of all of the content, not just messages, and nothing is altered in the group itself. That is, everything stays put. The intent is that you can periodically ask for an export, and tuck those zip files away as backups in case Groups.io should unexpectedly go offline. Or in case you and/or your group are removed from the service for whatever reason (you or another owner deletes it, or support removes it). Then you always have a (somewhat recent) copy of your data to move to your group's next home. Using Export Group Data button
Hi
As new first time group manager, I got through the Yahoo transfer. Then I was asked today if we had our own back up copy of the 15 years of messages residing with one or more of our moderators given what happened with Yahoo. If I use the export group data button, is the result that a downloadable zip file is created but the messages stay put in Groups.io?? And do so until you delete them or the whole account? I could not find this in the FAQ or Wiki and don't want to vaporize anything now its been moved. Also Groups.io is such an improvement over Yahoo!. Big thank you for all you did to make it possible Carole |
Re: Owner really messed up and got dropped

David,
So the question is if an address is confirmed in one group, will itYes. Confirmation, like bouncing, is a property of the account (email address), not a specific group subscription. And I should have the password for the errant address. I had to enterThen I'm surprised that you were blocked from accessing your Account page when you attempted to log in to the errant address. You should be blocked from group access under that scenario, but not from accessing your Account pages. Had you been able to, you could have corrected the address yourself without having to confirm the errant address. If you eventually get in touch with support that's one of the things I'd like you to ask about: 1) why the address change took effect without confirmation, and 2) why you couldn't access the account page after it took effect. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSo the question is if an address is confirmed in one group, will it confirm on a second group at the same time? ?And I should have the password for the errant address. ?I had to enter that in when I did the change. ? And yes I am the sole owner of my group (stupid I know) but did have myself in as owner twice with two different addresses. ?However I changed the second address at the same time (not smart). ?What I did was put the wrong extension by switching them. ? I just did this when I was tired and totally goofed up by switching the extensions. ?There is no such thing as nor And if Support cannot get to me until January sometime, the no problem. ?Nobody is urgently using to join our club group and there are no urgent matters at hand. ?We can float for awhile without owner. However if someone with a premium group wanted to test the theory of confirming on one group confirms on a second group, I welcome the test. ?Let me join your group with either of the two bogus addresses above and then confirm it. ?I will then check my group and see if it confirmed as well. ?I can then be dropped from the premium group and I can then get in and fix my mistakes on my group if it does confirm. ?Not pushing for anyone to do this if they are uncomfortable with it. ?But if you do, then please let me know so I can check my group to see it the confirmation took place. ?I will then let you know so I can be dropped from your group. ?And I will report back to GMF at to the results. Re: Special Notices. What constitutes a special notice and how does a moderator create one?

Re: "CHANGE: We are no longer accepting new Yahoo Group transfer requests"?
Cindy,
I have been promoted from moderator to owner but I don't see how toThat functionality (New Topic) has already been removed from Y!Groups' web pages. If you are willing to do a bit of trickery it is possible to send a Special Notice by email - it requires access to an email user interface that lets you insert custom header fields (like Thunderbird). It will just go out under my account....Yup. will the fact that now I'm an owner it will go to everyone?Nope. Those on Special Notices and No Email will not get your message. At this point I'm not sure what the point is in either of those settings, as shortly email will be all there is. I don't want to tell you you should go switch all the members to Individual Emails (that could be lot of work) but any member who isn't set that way going forward is probably not going to be able to participate in the group. And do you know what will happen to people who have theirYahoo hasn't said. I think the safest assumption is that nothing will happen - they'll just stop getting digests. I'd be mildly surprised if Yahoo went to the effort of changing their setting automatically, or changing the code to ignore their setting. Re: Wiki Text Formatting
Thanks, Bruce, we were just trying to suggest another option for OP Art Kocsis,
unsure if it would work on the GIO platform. Another way around the difficulty of posting properly arranged tabular material would be to lay it out as you like in whatever font in a word processor, take a screen shot of that, save it as a .jpg or .gif or .png or whatever in your graphics programme, and add that image to the post. The drawback of course is that the text in the table would no longer be searchable. |

Re: re pending member
Win,
However I thought that they were not members until approved. They aren't. The notice is confusing, and so is the process, a bit. There isn't a specific command to rescind my +subscribe request, so one uses the +unsubscribe feature to do that. It works out that way, as in the end you're not subscribed to the group; whether a mod approved you before you rescinded your request or not. That is, whether it rescinds your request or actually unsubscribes you is only a matter of timing (a race between you and the mod who might have approved you). I realize you and Duane and shal can answer questions, but when owners have problems they sometimes need support, to fix them or tell them how to fix them. i've seen a few posts sayinig they've emailed with no response.? Suggestions have been made here by mods that posters email support. as used to happen on yahoo manager groups.? When we had support. Terri |
