Re: Yahoo has extended deadline for downloading to January 31, 2020 11:59 PST #yahoo

Okay, found it on Yahoo's site:

Beginning October 28, new content won't be able to be uploaded to the site, and all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed after December 14. We will continue to process requests to download your content as long as they are submitted by January 31, 2020.?

Yahoo has extended deadline for downloading to January 31, 2020 11:59 PST #yahoo

See this in Slate about the extension:

PC Magazine reports - "Verizon still plans on shutting down Yahoo Groups on Dec. 15 as a discussion board site. However, the company is going to extend the deadline for users to download content from their pages to Jan. 31, 2020. "Individual Groups users can use this tool to download any content he or she posted on Yahoo Groups," the company said in an email."

That gives you time to use getmydata -?

That download creates a download in mbox format. A couple of options then.

Update from Mark (Groups.io) on Beta #announcement

From Mark, yesterday:

Hi All,
?
I have unmoderated the beta group again. Please keep the discussion focused on new features and not support requests.
?
With the great Yahoo Groups migration winding down, I can turn back to projects in process before that happened. My focus continues to be on the app. It is almost ready for testing and I will soon create a new subgroup for that. The first version will not have moderator features; it's just focused on normal users. I will also be getting back to work on notifications soon.
?
I am working this week (although at reduced capacity because of a cold), and then will be on holiday until January 6th. As usual, I'll be monitoring the site. But answers to support requests will be delayed. Due to support volume, I can only answer messages from mods/owners of premium groups at this time. I wish it wasn't so, but that's reality.
?
2019 was quite a year for Groups.io. 2020 is looking to be even better. Thanks for your support!

Post is here -?

Re: Invalid request, no reverse DNS for.... Not just an Outlook problem

You (or rather groups.io) may be falling foul of some dodgy results caching somewhere down the line. The DNS system relies very heavily on both servers and clients caching the results of lookups, although in principle negative results (such as this one) should only be cached for a short period, if at all. But it only takes one misconfiguration to cause pain.

Somewhere upstream of group.io's server lb01.groups.io, someone is saying?authoritatively that there is no PTR record for 209.242.224.96 (even though we know there is). Either lb01.groups.io is caching that negative response far longer than is necessary, or probably the upstream server isn't rechecking. Until the upstream server corrects its mistake, lb01.groups.io won't know.?

If you haven't already, drop a note to [email protected]?- they'll need to kick their DNS provider...

Re: Invalid request, no reverse DNS for.... Not just an Outlook problem

Mark promptly addressed this and just sent me a note he would increase the timeout for reverse DNS lookups and to keep an eye out for errors. This may just be the solution, and would make a lot of sense why it is a random error due to the?inherent delay in the ever growing entanglement of the world wide web. We'll see and I'll report back after giving it a bit of a chance to work.

That would be at least a moderator account or you wouldn't see the Member list.? Is this a paid group?? If so, you may be able to change the email address for the owner account.? If it's a free group, you'll need to contact [email protected] to fix it.? I'd contact them anyway to see why this happened since the new email address isn't supposed to be effective until it's confirmed.? It's also supposed to send a notice to the old address,

Definitely your best (only?) option. Admit your foul - up and see what happens. Go to [email protected] and throw yourself at Mark's mercy; it may not be the first time something like this has happened, and it certainly won't be the first time that someone has inadvertently done something unrecoverable in error. Please let us know the outcome.

To err is human; to forgive divine.

Re: Owner really messed up and got dropped #changeemail

I already have a second account (but not as an owner). I therefore can go in and see the group site and see myself as an owner. However my owner listing has a NC (Not Confirmed) by it since the address has the wrong domain and therefore I never could have received or have seen the confirmation email. I also cannot sign in with the error email account since it I get the message that email is not verified and thus cannot get in and change it or make my second account an owner.

I think my group is in limbo now since the owner has no control, unless someone at Groups.io can fix the error. Just fix the .net to .com on my address or confirm my error email address so I can sign in. I should have never done the address change when I was so tired. What a mess. Always though of having a second owner but never got to it.

Worse yet, there is no way I can see to even delete the group and start over or even start a new group since the name is already taken. Have 68 subscribers so while not convenient, certainly could.

Just a point. Groups.io allows you to create an email alias for your account. You can email from that account to your group. You can¡¯t log into your account from the alias.

So create another account for yourself with a different email address as a backup.

IANAL but that idea might be in contravention of Terms of Service / Intellectual Property Rights / Service Content, Software and Trademarks.

It might be better to check with Mark first.

There also has been recent discussion here about adding colour banners on each side of a square image.

Click on Settings tab at the LHS of your web UI; close to the top of the page (a little bit left of centre) there will be a blue tab called Settings; two tabs to the right of it is a grey tab called Cover Photo; click on it. What follows should be more or less obvious. :)

Not sure about that. An email alias is just a different address from which a member can post to a group; it isn't a second membership as such.

Now setting up a second membership... that's fine!
