Yes, indirectly.

  • What are the steps to do this?
Change the group name to something like qqqqqqxxxxx, and only THEN delete it. At that point you should be able to reopen a new group using the same name.?

Having said that, if you plan to continue beta testing for Wilson, you might want to instead rename the current group to something like PGO2GIOTestGroup, and keep it around for awhile.?

Reset a new group

We have been working to port our Yahoo group to Groups.io. The transfer service offered by groups.io did not meet a couple of our needs:
  1. About 1/4 of our messages included at least one attachment. We did not wish to lose this valuable archive, nor manually adjusting it. The problem was aggravated by an inexplicable inability to directly add attachments to posted messages.
  2. As is the case in many groups (including [GMF]), many of our messages refer to other messages by message number. (It was the only reliable way to target a message in Yahoo.) We wanted to preserve the message numbers--in spite of the fact that our group had undergone pruning from time to time.
We were able to meet these requirements creating a group on Groups.io and populating it with PGO and PGO-2-GIO, but we've hit one annoying issue, due to false starts. During the beta test period with this product, I started and abandoned several uploads, deleting the messages after each test. Ultimately, I had uploaded and deleted around 998 messages before the final complete upload.

So the problem is that all the message numbers are offset by 998 from what they should be.

  1. Is there any way to reset the message counter to 0? I could delete all the messages, reset the message counter, and upload again.
  2. I could shut down this group and start a new one--but I really like the name I've used for this one. It's about the same as the name at Yahoo. Can I close a group and then reopen a new group using the same name? What are the steps to do this?
We do include the Yahoo message number inside the message, but I'd like the two to match. Here's an illustration:

Thanks for any help.

I didn't try it on wordpress.org because I didn't want to mess up the active site I maintain.

Can you tell me whether you are using blocks? Or paid for CSS??

Details appreciated!

I tried it both ways on the page below, checking the unstyled, and styled, check box. As you can see on the link below, the code does not render properly, even when copied and pasted on it's own line.

Re: Messages Marked As Spam

Bruce -- I received one too and I was the co-owner of the site but I can tell you what happened with me.? I was in the process of uploading a photo (3 of 3) myself to an album on my groups.io site when Microsoft Windows 10 did an upgrade smack in the middle of my trying to upload the photo.? The original email that went through my groupsio site was automatically dumped into SPAM the second the update from Microsoft kicked in and immediately my AOL service sent a message back to groups.io saying I had received SPAM from groups.io so I received the message that said this:

Hello,

You have been?automatically?removed from [email protected] because your Email Service Provider reported to us that one or more messages?sent to you?from [email protected] has been marked as spam.

We suggest that you check your spam box as soon as possible to see if your Email Service Provider has diverted other legitimate messages into it.

You will receive no more emails from that group. If this was a mistake, you can resume your subscription within the next 7 days by clicking the following link:

Resume Subscription

Groups.io groups offer several options for controlling how much and what types of emails to receive. See this??for more information.

If this happens repeatedly please check with your Email Service Provider to learn about how they decide to send feedback reports to list services (such as Groups.io groups).

Cheers,
The Groups.io Team

Bruce, I clicked on the link and it immediately put my groups.io service to rights with me back in.? I had been dumped out the minute the upload and update hit and could not get back in.? I restarted my computer thinking there was some kind of glitch between the two actions and it didn't fix the problem.? Then I looked at my email and the above email was there.? Once I clicked on the resume Subscription, all was good again as I said.

I'm assuming the other people got the same thing and more than likely it happened at about the same time (yesterday).? The time I received the above message from groups.io was 8:34:50 A.M. PST on 12/8.

Sincerely,

Rli@...om

Please read this wiki page.

The person who is removed gets an email with a clickable link. Your member just needs to click link and they are resubscribed.

If you just moved, probably lots of dead email addresses.

Messages Marked As Spam

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I¡¯ve been receiving several messages a day like this one since I migrated my group from Yahoo to GIO.

?

Hello,

?

This is to notify you that xyz12345@... has been unsubscribed from your group [email protected] because a message to them was marked as spam. Note that this may have been done by their email service provider, not by the individual member personally. They've been given a link that lets them quickly resubscribe, in case this was an error.

To turn off this notification, log into and edit your subscription.

Thank you for choosing Groups.io groups.

Sorry for continuing to ask questions - I'm trying to get to the last bit of clarity with this.
Will I be able to us YahooMessagesApplication to download the messages in a format (not mbox) that can be uploaded correctly into a new group?

It occurs to me now that you might be confusing Individual Messages with All Emails. This is not the same thing.

Click open her member record. As a Moderator, she should have an Owner Email block. Make sure it's set as shown (screenshot below). If this block is not present, she is not a Moderator.

The subject line led me to believe you were upset. If both you and your Moderators are truly unhappy with groups.io then other options are available.

1) Are you saying that I can also "Lock group" as an alternative to Announcement only? I'm assuming that means the moderators can't post either, which is fine. They just want the break. But will I as?owner still be able to post during the?two day break with Lock group?

There is no function in groups.io that will allow the group Owner to post while inhibiting posts by Moderators.

2) If I give a moderator the ability to "modify group settings", that sure does give someone a lot of power. ?Is there a setting where I can be notified if any of the settings are changed?

No. You would have to check the Activity Log for that.

3) As far as making another mod a co-owner...would they have the power to remove me as owner??

Yes.?

These last three questions suggest that to want to spread the work around but aren't willing to trust anybody. You can't have it both ways.

4) My moderator who is not getting?any of the emails (that have answers to all 3 questions) is already set to All Emails. I?already asked her to check spam. She's getting nothing. Sure need help with that.?

Check her Email Delivery History (button at the top of her member record).

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: I and the moderators ARE NOT HAPPY WITH IO GROUPS. Please read and help!

Duane, I used the Member Notices to create an automatically-sent notice that goes to anyone Pending. It states they need to reply with answers to the three questions I created.?

And the moderator who approves members doesn't receive the reply with the answers, and I have her set to ALL EMAILS.?

Re: I and the moderators ARE NOT HAPPY WITH IO GROUPS. Please read and help!

Hi Bruce. I never thought the sky was falling. lol. It's just been frustrating for all the mods and myself.?

For the Announcement only, I'll pay close attention to whether I'm saving it next weekend.?

No, all members post and moderators respond to their posts. I couldn't even begin to have changed 22,000+ subscribers to an override. Now a lot of those 22,000 were not moderated in the Yahoo group. Is that what you are considering an override? I'm just going to hope that if I change the group to Announcement only this next weekend that no one will be able to post.?

QUESTIONS:?

1) Are you saying that I can also "Lock group" as an alternative to Announcement only? I'm assuming that means the moderators can't post either, which is fine. They just want the break. But will I as?owner still be able to post during the?two day break with Lock group?

3) As far as making another mod a co-owner...would they have the power to remove me as owner? I remember that?happening in a few facebook groups. Could that happen in the IO groups?? That is the last thing I'd want to happen. I've owned this group for 17 years.?

4) My moderator who is not getting?any of the emails (that have answers to all 3 questions) is already set to All Emails. I?already asked her to check spam. She's getting nothing. Sure need help with that.?

Hi, Sandi -

I've read your post through a couple of times, and it's sparked a lot of ideas for me, mostly around GSuite management of email, which I've done with other domains, and considering a Google Group (or two) for our Board Members, as you have done. I also think it's a good idea to keep private business away from public forums, and I'm really liking GIO for our public discussion group.

I realize that you're asking some of the same questions about GIO that I am about what is feasible/possible. And I believe that a benefit of having GSuite manage the MX records of your domain accounts would be that you could use /api#google-login-start to get a security token and log in your users. At least I think that's true--you'd have to confirm with the API group.

As for switching domain email accounts on or off in GSuite, I don't think it would throttle their ability to access your GIO site, although I could be wrong. I think their GIO accounts would still be active, but they just couldn't send or receive any email messages from/to GIO because you'd prevented them from sending/receiving emails. But they would still be able to access the GIO site and read what's in there, I think, until you go into GIO Admin and remove that user from your group. You'd have also messed up their ability to participate (with your domain email, at least) in any other forums they'd signed up for within GIO. At least, I think that's the way it works... :-) I'm new here.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!

I submitted a request on Saturday using my xxx@... email address and received a link on Monday to a 1.6GB zip file. This appears to have at least most of the content from the last twenty years from all the groups I'm still subscribed to, including files, photos, and links.

Most of the photos were saved as "files", but one group had "photos_and_attachments".

I did find that the links were not clickable, giving an "invalid target" message, but when opened in a text editor the content was correct. Here's an example:

Re: An announcement from PG Offline - Y! group transfer extension!?

Some PG Offline users are experiencing being locked out.

PG Offline was, for me, able today to download some messages from one
group. I believe there has been new content added for one or two other
of my groups but it only found new messages in one.

At one pint it told me there was a server issue or I was locked out.
Then PGO continued with the rest of the groups but there were no more
messages found.

Glad I got them a few weeks ago and kept up with refreshing my groups
every few days.

How are the questions sent?? Is it part of a Pending Subscription notice or are you sending them directly?? You should always include as much detail as you can about the group settings and anything else that may impact the situation.? It seems that about 99% of the time, problems are solved when people look at what they've done and realize they made a mistake.? The other 1% are bugs or misunderstanding of how things work on GIO.
