Duane,

Agree that the Groups.io settings reduce size, not quality.? My goal was/is the opposite, to keep the? size and to reduce quality.? Many? of the pictures in the albums I worked with were 100K? or less when downloaded, and looked fine for this? use.? The ones I "degraded" still look quite? good, adequate for the purpose.? Just a different preference.?? The fact that groups.io puts the? attachments in? an album means that I can easily delete large ones if needed.

Moving to Groups.io without Yahoo Easy Transfer #howtoguide

Edited

A summary of your choices in light of recent stoppage of Easy Group Transfer.

This page discusses methods for moving any archived group content you have, whether from a Yahoo Group or other list/group service, into a Groups.io group.
Some of it is about options to archive your messages, etc. that are on Yahoo. Only a few days more for that.

Owner really messed up and got dropped #changeemail

As an owner I really, really messed up.? I changed my email address except I typed in the wrong ending.? I typed in gmail.net when I should have been gmail.com.? So the address gets changed and suddenly I am a NC owner member with the wrong address.? Never got the confirmation email, cannot get into my own group to fix either.?

What can be done?

If i try to get in by using the wrong ending, I just get notified that I have not been approved yet.
Group in question is Groups.io/g/TCMG

Re: Search For Groups

OK, think I got something working right now.?? The Alexa and DuckDuckGo BOTs already have made a pass-thru the main page.? On DDG, with the search of Yanmar Owners Group, the result ranking is #4.? It's a few above the old YG version.? Without the word Group, it's much further down the rankings.? In time I hope, this too would over shadow the YG version.
?
I'll have to hit google, bing and yahoo a little later to be sure their BOT crawls thru.
?
So, white-on-white text will help the BOTs like meta data tags and descriptions.? It's not perfect, but it does help.?

With the sub-group of the ARCHIVE messages, I may use the Yahoo term to tag that location for members who hadn't joined yet after the move and Yahoo goes DARK.

It looks like the Direct Add API </api#direct_add> may be
what you're looking for. It supports both the main group and sub groups.
It's not clear whether the Remove Member API
</api#remove-member> works on sub groups or just the main
group. That sounds like a good question for the Groups.io API group
<>. I haven't tried either one myself, though.

For creating a user, there's the Register User API
</api#user>, but it looks like you can only set the initial
password. Though, on another branch of this thread it looks like you're
actually looking for single-sign on, so this is probably not what you're
looking for in practice.

A feature of an Enterprise group is single-sign on using Auth0 with "others

The API must be called over a HTTPS connection
</api#authentication>, so it's not sent in the clear. If
you can't trust HTTPS, then you lost a long time ago. :-) There are some
potential defense-in-depth arguments for using something other than the
plain text password. But, things like OAuth tokens also need to treated as
confidential data and should only be sent of HTTPS as well, even if your
service never see the user's password.

Most POP, IMAP, and SMTP servers I've used work similarly to the login API:
they establish a secure connection and then send the username and password
over the connection. Yes, there's legacy here, as these protocols were
invented a long time ago.

Gary,

?
(BTW, the Alpha API /login call is ugly in that it sends a user's password across the Internet in cleartext--eek!)
As I understand it the API is rapidly evolving right now due to mobile app development (its primary application), so if you're relying on documentation you may find that it is out of date.

Any help from the group (or the develops) would be most appreciated!
GMF is strictly user-to-user, no Groups.io employees here. You may have better luck getting current info, or advice from experience, in the , which at least is moderated by Groups.io (Mark Fletcher).?

The form provided on the Promote page (in the "copy/pasted into your site" box)?is in raw html. If you switch the Wordpress editor to that mode and then paste it in, it might work better.

Just a thought,

Gary,

... I'm trying to figure out a way to use the API to pre-log-in a website user from within WordPress, and through API Login functionality, log them into Groups.IO automatically.

Do you mean that you want to redirect a user of your WordPress site directly to your Groups.io group and have them land in a logged-in session? If so, that's way out of my depth (and it doesn't seem like it should be possible).

Maybe you could somehow trigger the Email Link To Log In function, targeting their email address. But they'd have to receive and click through that email message to land in a logged in session, it wouldn't be direct web site to web site. You could explain it to the user as a necessary verification of their email address.

Hi, Chris -

I should have been more clear in my initial request--sorry about that. Okay, here's my goal:

Our organization has a website that has special functionality and a repository of useful data available only to members. They have to log in to the website to get at it. I'd like to be able to hand them off to Groups.IO and have them already logged in to their account (using the same email address). I don't really care what their password is, nor do I want access it--that's not the point. (BTW, the Alpha API /login call is ugly in that it sends a user's password across the Internet in cleartext--eek!) I'd much prefer to have access some sort of security token, like an OAuth or a private key, so that I can access the API (without sending anyone's password in cleartext), get my user logged in as themselves, and then hand them off to Groups.IO. Thanks again for your quick responses.

The promote form is exactly the one I am talking about. The promote form does not seem to work with wordpress.com at all. Did anyone make a wordpress.com friendly version of that promo embed form? If not, is there a way to have an external form system email the subscribe email, and the confirmation goes straight to the user?

Ideas, anyone?
Gary;it might be worth noting that it is possible to use Groups.io without having a password; say a subscriber forgot their password they can request a log - in link that will give them access to their groups in perpetuity provided that they revisit their account / one or more of their groups at not more than 30 day intervals. What you seem to be proposing would radically alter the way Groups.io works for at least a section of the overall community and there is no means of knowing (a) how Mark would react to that, and (b) how any of your subscribers who may already be Groups.io Account holders would feel about it. It would also (c) put your members at least partially outside the assistance that is available from both "Support" at Groups.io and here on the GMF.

I have done some tests on another group but so far have not been able to replicate any of the problem as you have reported it. Having said that I am still awaiting a digest to appear but I suspect that nothing untoward will occur. Time will tell...

However having revisited your original post I realise that you did originally report I can't find these attachments on the groups.io PADCO web site, either and overall we seem to have a collection of mutually exclusive symptoms, which is absurd.

One thought that springs to mind is the format of the attachments that appear to be not getting through. What format (or formats) are they? The tests I carried out used photographs in jpg and non - member posts revealed their attachments after moderation, and posts I submitted which were emails sent to me from a non - member; I posted them by forwarding (as per your orignal description)? and again the attachments worked.

At this moment I simply don't think we have sufficient information to progress this investigation any further; there are too many potential variables and we don't know which ones might be varying.

You might care to note that there is a subscriber setting that can stop attachments turning up, but if this setting is invoked the subscriber is sent a link (or links) from which the attachment can be obtained. Are these links turning up instead?

I've found that PG Offline did get the Attachments and Photos of GMF,
just not in the location that I'd expected. So I've a different mystery,
which is why I have an imposter "PG Offline 4" folder where I expected
the real one to be. But I think that may be an artifact of having
rebuilt my system after a crashed hard-drive, and probably not something
that users generally encounter.

Before running PGO, you can change the defaults of where things are stored. It's under the "Grup" Tab. For example, I set messages, Files, Links, Members, Attachments, and Photos lo like-named folders on a memory key known as E:\.

If you ran it another time using default settings, they would be in
C:\users\[yourname]\Appdata\Local\PGOffline4

And the older capture would surely have less data than the newer one unless the group was moribund.

If you don't want to run an emulator, then PG Offline is off the table.

Will Mark's YahooMessagesApplication make the From field and the message date work properly?
Presumably. If you contact Mark and get him to upload your mbox files for you, please report back on how things went and what the price point is.

My programmer husband has used a Windows emulator on his Mac. But you have to get the emulator plus buy Windows.
He suggests you look at Wineskin - free open source.
or
Crossover - costs about $60 but it won't run all applications.
It is based on Wineskin but is easier to use.

He says that if you have more money than time, your best bet is the emulator.
